Sorry to hear about your baby with COVID B. Hope he gets better soon.
I'm sad, I miss Hol (my dog). I just re-read my post about her vomiting & she passed away a few days later.

My rant is: my kid has Covid, dammit. Tested positive on a home test, dark line right away, so I'm sure the PCR we got will be positive. I've got sore throat symptoms because kid likes to cough right in my face, so I'm sure I have it too. I knew it was just a matter of time, but he got it the first damn week of camp. So far his symptoms aren't that bad, and fever is easily controlled with tylenol/motrin. Hope Baby Bee feels better soon! I'm going to be testing Bloke tomorrow morning as he's had a sore throat since yesterday and has now started a persistent dry cough. Thankfully we still have a couple of tests at home from when they were still giving them out. He's also giving his Cpap a miss tonight because of the cough which means that I'm going to have to try and sleep through his bulldozer snoring and he's going to be a right grumpy fucker come the morning. Edit: Rant 2. Don't ask me why but we're being plagued by flies at the moment. I'm a little loathe to start blasting bug spray around the house because I don't want to risk the kitties accidentally inhaling/ingesting any so I've got some old fashioned fly papers and stuck one up. It has caught four in the last three days. Fucking FOUR. It's nearly had me twice as often as it's had the flies! If you don't hear from me again then send help as I'm probably wrapped up in a fly paper and Bloke is too busy laughing to free me.

Rant: It’s too fucking hot 🥵. I was outside for an hour and a half earlier and didn’t realize how hot it was. Came inside and it took me about an hour to cool down! It’s going to be between 95-100 (no rain forecasted but hopefully this will change). We did put up our gazebo over the back patio which helps keep the house a smidge cooler without overworking the AC. But if no rain it means I’m out there 2-3x a day watering veggies and plants so I guess I just gotta stay hydrated. I can tolerate the heat better than most people so when I say it’s too hot and feel I could pass out that’s serious heat. Rant: We are the opposite, it's freaking pouring rain. On Friday night I had a thing to do outside with my kids scout troop. I'm not even exaggerating when I call it a deluge, every bit of me was soaking wet - except for about a 3in x 2 in section on the back of my jeans where my rain jacket apparently worked better than anywhere else. I might as well have jumped in a pool fully clothed it was that wet. I keep telling myself - it's good for the rest of the US who can take water from Oregon and it's good for our wildfire season. But, it's hard to keep convincing yourself of that when it's mid-June and every day is rainy.

^^^ I looked it up. It is the "Herring Gull" It looks like it is the second largest of all the gulls and native to Western and Northern Europe. It has a wing span up to 5.1 feet. There is a bigger gull, and a rival, called the "Great Black-backed gull". It has a wingspan of up to 5.6 feet. I guess you should be thankful for small favors.

The fly count is up to seven. It seems that the corpses of their comrades is encouraging them. Bloke thinks I'm terrible for putting a fly paper up and letting them die slowly instead of nuking them with spray. Still no closer to finding out where they are all coming from though. Somebody nearby must have something rotting somewhere.

96° today with a heat index of 111°.
So this shit is gonna go on for about another 2 weeks. Except that we'll probably be up to 100° in the damn shade after today.
Just got in from giving the veggies another watering. They're up against the fence line though so by later in the afternoon the sun isn't beating down directly on them so hard. The peppers seem to thrive on this though.

I'm doing veggie next year - too late now. Kitty - Venus fly trap? I have something else + it did a number on the black vinegar flies. Best £6 I have spent!

I feel your "It's too fucking hot" rant, MsDark. Me too. So far his symptoms aren't that bad, and fever is easily controlled with tylenol/motrin. sorry to hear that, b. hope all your symptoms are mild and that it passes quickly. this week the rona also got pretty much the only other close friend i had left who hadn't had it yet. even my friend and her husband who is beyond anxious and scared of life and has been a legit hermit all pandemic probably had it during the omicron spike back around christmas, though they didn't get an antibodies test to confirm, but i'm pretty sure i got it from them or specifically their baby who got it at daycare though she never tested positive because they're the only people i saw before i got it about 4-5 days after them. like you said, it was just a matter of time. the only one left is my best friend who so far hasn't gotten it despite her husband and oldest son having it twice each, and her baby once, and they didn't really isolate when they were sick and she took care of them all. she tested negative each time. no antibodies test otherwise she could be a candidate for the study on people who are genetically practically immune.

For flies -- I always use a mason jar, but there's a video for repurposing a plastic bottle -- attached. www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Fly-TrapPut water, a little sugar, splash of apple cider vinegar and some old fruit in the jar. Fill about 1/3 of the way. Put a drop of dish soap in it. Put plastic wrap on top, Put a rubber band on the plastic wrap. poke a few holes in the top big enough for a fly to get in. Put it where you see flies often (I put mine on the window sill in my kitchen -- I actually had 2). Flies get in, but can't get out. A few years ago I had a terrible bunch of flies, but they haven't been back since I caught them. You can dump and reuse the jars with fresh (old) bait.

no1novice I wouldn't wish me on a Venus Fly Trap - not again, anyway. I'm the Harold Shipman of plants. Very few survive my tender care, including the Venus Fly Trap I'd previously tried to keep. tulip thanks for that! I'll buy some jars tomorrow and see what I can do. The mystery of where they are all coming from has been solved by another neighbour. A nearby (different) neighbour had their power go off and lost a fuckton of meat from their freezer so they dumped it in the bin - and then missed the bi-weekly collection. So there's been a load of meat rotting away and getting maggoty and everyone who has opened their windows nearby has been getting plagued.
