To give maggots some props...
Many moons ago I changed a neglected and old/tattered dressing off a foot wound. After I removed the dressing and cleaned the maggots off, the wound actually looked pretty good and the maggots probably saved that foot.

I had to look up what that was. Nope! I already knew, unfortunately. Did you know that the maggots inside it can launch themselves up to 6 inches when disturbed? Edit: MsDark a lady I play online with had the same thing happen with a leg ulcer caused by cellulitis. Several people on voice chat excused themselves to be sick lol. What really amazed me was that she said she hadn't even felt them!

I don't doubt it.
I was amazed at the cleanliness of the wound bed.
There are medical wound debriding agents that don't work as well as this.

Thanks, everyone, for reminding me of Mama June's maggot crusted forklift foot. That was a memory I was happy to forget.
Ugg...Kitty, that's terrible! Let's hope that bin gets picked up this week for your and your neighbors sakes.

Haven't they started using medically bred maggots to clean wounds again or was that just a study? Kitty - if you like jumping maggots, try fruit fly maggots those buggers both jump higher & move at the speed of light!

Sterile maggots- perfect for cleaning rotten wounds! The patients do occasionally state that they can feel them 'gnawing' at the wound site......nature's little undertakers....*barf*! BTW, the thought of maggots jumping towards me would fill me with dread!

Ugg...Kitty, that's terrible! Let's hope that bin gets picked up this week for your and your neighbors sakes. The collection was today. Whether they actually remembered to put their bin out this time... BTW my bug bodycount is now up to 11 on the paper or 20+ if you count the ones that were eaten by cats. I nearly had to add a pigeon to the total as one tried to land on the outside sill of the bathroom window but couldn't get on because I had the window slightly ajar. I caught Pandora mid-leap as she tried to have at it. no1novice mrsfawlty sputnik yeah maggots are great little beasties for cleaning wounds as they only nom on the dead flesh. I believe the NHS uses them sometimes. Bloke has been in several places where they breed them and they hold no ick factor for him. I remember when we were out one Hallowe'en and there was a sign up in the pub saying you got a free drink if you could make the bar staff scream. He went up, started ordering a drink and then coughed and shot several maggots onto the bar. He got his free drink. He later told me that he'd slipped them under his tongue just before he went to the bar, the filthy bastard. I'm sooooo glad this was when we were just friends because as much as they wouldn't make me scream I ain't smooching no maggot mouth.

For some reason even the grossest wound care doesn't phase me so bad. Not like phelgm/mucus :::shudder:::
I loved doing would care/helping to heal wounds for the simple reason that you can see the results. There's a lot of satisfaction in that.

^^^ I think I would be the same. Ages ago when our cat got into a fight with another cat (despite being neutered) and his wound got infected and he developed a horrible massive abscess and to treat you has to squeeze antibiotic ointment onto the wound really deep with a long canule, I was the one designated to do it even though I qas probably 11 or 12 but I was the only one in the family who could do it without passing out lol But if someone pukes or hocks a loogie in my vicinity it takes all my willpower not to vomit. I dint even have to see it, the sound alone makes me dry heave.

Rant: My 74 y/o diagnosed with mild dementia mother got FLEECED by a scammer. She thought it was Paypal calling her with a problem with her account. He talked her into downloading an app called AnyDesk, got control of her phone and accessed her bank account. 12K before she came to me asking for mortgage money until her "friend" Adam finished making her account safe and she could use her money.
I hate people.
