His relationship with Amber Heard was always suspect, and the way they looked together was always somehow disturbing. He was obsessed and she was... I don't know what she was, but it wasn't healthy. I think he knew he had lost the plot somewhere down the line, but when he finally faced it, it seemed it was far too late to stop the destruction from either side. I mean, we all knew it was a disaster before they got married, but they did it anyway. 

And ever since, Depp has been on a personal crusade - the first crusade was to justify this awful relationship, to prove to himself and the world that he didn't throw it all away like the most idiotic wanker to ever chase after a side piece and call it love. The second crusade was to convince himself, his family, and the world, that none of it was his fault. The drinking, drugs, temper tantrums from both of them, the thread of ugly and menacing behavior from both of them, his expensive, unprofessional, and unreliable behavior both on and off set all made him a pariah where he had once reigned as king - all of it was her fault, because she called him abusive. 

She could have called him much worse, but without his behavior, nobody would have paid the least bit of attention. I used to side pretty heavily with Amber. I don't anymore, because they are one of those couples that should never have gone beyond a wild and crazy one-night-stand. (Better not to even have that, but... ) I don't know if she was truly in love with him, or he with her for that matter. I do know they brought/still bring out the worst in each other. 

Thank God there were no children. 

I called this years ago on the old board. I think there was another actor of the old times who sort of tragically merged with the best known character of his movies in his later years, but I can't remember who that was.

He's giving live trial testimony right now. I was listening to it on HLN on the way to work. I realize he has to choose his word carefully because he will be cross examined, but his delivery is incredibly halting and also pretty inarticulate. I don't think he's doing himself any favors.

I also want to add that he has been a weirdo basically since he became a breakout success (I guess around the time of Edward Scissorhand and Gilbert Grape). Almost all his gf's (Ryder, Moss, Paradis) share the common trait of looking like underage waifs - at least when he got together with them. Also, his Viper Club was a big, lurid mess. Then, he hooks up with Amber Heard. All I knew about her when they got together was that she was supposed to be a lesbian. So, then she marries Johnny Depp, who is already on a steep decline physically and mentally. I knew it would end badly, but not this spectacularly badly. Which is the part where I think some of this is actually Heard's fault.

If I remember, this is the part where the GR thread went sideways...those who felt Amber was a DV survivor and therefore could not be criticized, and those who thought she was a gold digging liar, or at least partially at fault. 

I only remembered Amber from that show Eddie Cibrian was on briefly, The Playboy Club. And yes, that she was a lesbian so Leann didn't have to worry about Amber banging her husband. So I was surprised she ended up with Depp but of course he was miles above Eddie Cibrian lol.

I think Depp had a decent reputation once he was with Vanessa because he seemingly "settled down" had kids, and stayed out of the limelight. Remember the stories about him dressing up as Jack Sparrow and visiting sick kids in the hospital?

I flipped to Courttv and am watching him now, talking about his addictions and how he has figured out his relationship with Amber was him being in a relationship with his abusive mother. Yeah, this is getting deep, Depp. I agree about the halting, inarticulate speech pattern, not sure what's up with that.

Honestly, I don't think he looks particularly terrible for 55. He's heavier than in years past, he's (allegedly) a hard drinker, a smoker, etc. As we age we lose bone density in our faces leading to the appearance of shrinking lips due to them rolling inward because of the loss of density. He needs a good haircut and some sleep, imo.

Yeah. DV is pretty polarising IMO.

The whole thing with these two is that they are actors & Depp is a good actor. I also admit that I don’t like him. I don’t trust him and I think that he’s lying like a lying liar.
I don’t find AH sympathetic & think she was probably with him for the PR & to further her career. I also wonder if she’s OCD due to some of the statements that Depp is making about change in routine throwing her off - if it’s true.

Also a load of different  information is coming out in bis defence this time; that he didn’t have in the UK.
Again his witnesses seem to be in his pay.

I don't think that AH is the saint some people portray her as. But - JD is tormenting AH for years now, it's like he can't let go of a woman he once called "cum-guzzling whore" and worse in public. Guess he makes her responsible for everything that went wrong in his life, the drug abuse, the alcoholism, the debaunchery and the stupid fnancial decisions he made instead of focussing on himself and on getting better. To me, he's an assholeof epic proportions.

The Courtv commentators are talking about how slow and boring he is, and that the jurors would probably be falling asleep if it was anyone other than Johnny Depp on the stand.

I'm not surprised "new" incidents are coming up, that UK trial was like a dress rehearsal and he now knows what doesn't work.

I don't really find AH sympathetic either, but I doubt she'll come off as badly as him on the stand.

I really like Johnny Depp as an actor. He was my first celebrity crush and I still think he was one of the most beautiful men I've ever seen when he was in his prime. But that whole thing here is way too much. I don't understand how he can't let it go. I absolutely believe that the both of them together were completely toxic. Probably both doing drugs, drinking too much, bringing out the worst of each other. Even if it were true that Amber was the one who started it all, which I personally don't believe, it doesn't matter because he didn't walk away. Yes, it harmed his reputation, but the only thing he could do now is just own it. Do some charity work, sober up and go on with your life.

He could still be attractive if he’d quit with the boozing & at least curb the smoking, quit dressing like he thinks he’s Steven fucking Tyler, get a decent looking hairstyle, & lose a few pounds.

But I don’t see it happening. Well, actually if he got sobered up, it could probably open his eyes to how ridiculous he looks & that problem would be resolved as a result.

a lot of us here seem unsympathetic towards johnny but from what i see on tiktok, people luv him. he is very heavily supported and AH is the she-devil.
