paxlovid is pretty available now so a lot of doctors will prescribe it. mostly for the elderly or immunocompromised as your doc suggested.

^^^ i think that's pretty common. when i got covid again in september some friends told me i should get my doctor to prescribe paxlovid and that a lot of them will do it even if you're not high risk so i called my doctor and asked and he actually advised me against it because of the side effects and risk of rebound, said he didn't really recommend it to patients unless they're old, immunocompromised or diabetic. Yeah, I don’t know why the nurse practitioner and the telehealth doctor were so enthusiastic about the paxlovid. I’m only half old, no diabetes, and I’m relatively healthy minus the last year. I have been diagnosed with two autoimmune diseases but, again, other than chronic pain, I’m pretty healthy. They are only able to prescribe it within 4-5 days of the onset of symptoms. I had no idea when the symptoms started because I had the sinus infection for weeks (maybe longer). I went from being unable to breathe through my nose, to my nose running like a waterfall, to the cough. The only reason I tested was I thought it was unfair to my coworkers not to test. I was going to wait it out and not even contact the doctor but at this point I don’t even know the protocol anymore. They kept hinting and stating that my first day of symptoms was 4-5 days before. They sent the rx to Walgreens who, in the middle of a pandemic, did not have it in stock for a day, so I had it transferred to a different pharmacy who did have it. The pharmacist asked when I started feeling symptoms and, since a day went by, I said 5-6 and she bluntly told me, “I can’t sell this to you unless it’s been 5 days or less.” So I said five. The doctor gave me a low dose so I can’t imagine how bad the normal dose is. He told me that looking at my last lab reports from 9 months ago that my kidney number was just a little down because I’d probably been dehydrated from fasting and I’m thinking…hell yeah I was. you’re looking at labs when I was too sick to stand up in the shower and I probably should have been on a drip but it’s fine. I think it did hasten the end of symptoms and I’m keeping an eye out for any rebound crap. I’m thankful to smell and taste again. Sorry for the wall-o-text. I didn’t realize I had so much to say. On topic…I’m having two 4oz coffees in one cup because I woke up too late to make/get breakfast so coffee it is… ETA czb now I’m freaking out that they were so insistent on me taking it. Lol I thought I was doing well!

^^^^ i think you're probably fine but some doctors/healthcare providers love pushing medication on people. even though you were very likely outside the window for it. it just seems irresponsible to me.

I agree. I even started to say that I was too far out of the window for onset of symptoms and they really were pushing it with stuff like, “you don’t have to take it but I feel it will keep you out of the hospital…” or “I would highly recommend…” It will freak you out. I usually don’t have doctors bend over backwards to push meds so I thought it must be useful/necessary. Or maybe the autoimmune stuff worried them? Who knows at this point.

^^^^ it's possible but if that's the case they should have told you that clearly. it's infuriating how badly healthcare providers/doctors communicate with patients, and it's even worse with women.

It is disgusting how medical professionals will not communicate. I try so hard to find doctors who will listen and then I keep them. The second convenient care comes it to play, it’s a crap shoot. I agree they should have been clearer. It doesn’t help they’re doing this to people when they aren’t feeling well or not thinking as straight as they normally would.

i was lucky when i had the flu ... the doc/PA asked if i wanted tamiflu and i made a face and mr czb said YES! i asked the doc what were the adverse events and he said nausea & vomiting so i said NO. tamiflu only takes off a day or 2 from the symptoms and i have enough stomach issues without adding nausea and vomiting to the mix.
as for poor communications, i think most docs are too pressed to take the time to explain. some really do their own research and others just rely on drug reps (no offense to any drug reps on the board).

Collard greens with smoked turkey legs. Then for dessert I had a slice of keto bread with some pb and a spread made from chocolate and ghee. Wanted to try something different…last time though. Hope you all are doing well…
