Rant: My dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer today (a moderately aggressive form)
Rave: He told me it had spread to his lymph nodes but he later listened back to the recording he made at the appointment and found out he had heard it wrong!! The doctor said it hadn't spread. So relieved! He's never been one to get information right..

I'm sorry. Luckily prostate cancer is much easier to treat than most.

I'm so sorry Sarzy. If they caught it early though, that's definitely a relief.

And they have not operated - I guess because of how slow it is progressing. It sounds like your dad needs to figure out the same thing.

I'm so sorry, but it looks very treatable, so that's a good thing.

Someone Ma Kitty knew was diagnosed with prostate cancer and was told by his doctors that he would most likely die with it rather than because of it. They were right.

Thank you all! Yeah he's elderly so I'm not sure what treatment option they'll go for, he's waiting to hear. If it was a less aggressive type I reckon they'd just keep an eye on it given his age.

depends on the type and the stage. let's hope it's early and he's a candidate for radiation and/or chemo.

Hey Sarzy message me if you want to talk. so far it looks like a "good" diagnosis but the waiting & treatment is so hard. sending you both lots of virtual love & hugs. When you are ready for light relief I'll tell you about my dad who has hormone treatment to keep his PSA levels down & I tell him he's getting his Depo shot. I also never thought that I would bond with my dad over the menopause & hot flushes.

Sarzy, when caught early enough, it's definitely treatable. I had 2 uncles diagnosed 1 had the surgery & chemo(in his 60s). We lost him almost 2 years ago, when he was 89. Not to prostate cancer though. My other uncle got the 'seed implant'. We lost him 15 years ago. He was the youngest of my mother's family. He didn't want the surgery because he didn't want it to impede his sex life โนโน. I would recommend the surgery, unless major strides have been made in the alternative methods.

And they had already been monitoring his elevated PSA levels. So, he got the best surgery you could get. He was very open - with EVERYBODY - about what he was going through. He even talked about having to wear diapers temporarily - classic over-sharer. But it's been 10 years now, and he is still around and going strong and enjoying retirement with his beautiful wife.
I wish your dad the best, Sarzy. I think it's going to be okay based on his age.

I also never thought that I would bond with my dad over the menopause & hot flushes. That's very kind of you, Novice. Thank you! Always ready to hear some light relief stories so feel free to send them my way! Sarzy, when caught early enough, it's definitely treatable. I would recommend the surgery, unless major strides have been made in the alternative methods. Sorry about both your uncles but it's good that one lived so long after treatment. I would guess a lot of men are probably hesitant to have or decline the surgery due to that reason sadly. Thank you all! Yeah he's elderly so I'm not sure what treatment option they'll go for, he's waiting to hear. If it was a less aggressive type I reckon they'd just keep an eye on it given his age. Thank you, Mo, appreciate your kind words. I agree it does seem that way, but I'm glad the executive you know is doing well!
