Rave - this nightmare bid we were all working on got extended a week. that makes the work much more bearable. Rant - our son had convinced us into putting him in an on-campus apartment rather than a dorm this year. Apparently dorms are for infants or something. And he told us it would basically be the same cost, because he was going to forego his meal plan. So, we helped him move into this swanky apartment that he is sharing with two other guys. Has a kitchen and two bathrooms. Really nice looking. Except yesterday, our son magically comes to the realization that he has an apartment but no food for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Especially protein. Mrs Mo brought over some emergency supplies of protein powder, oat milk, protein bars, canned chicken breast, and some other stuff. She said he seemed kind of freaked out, so she stayed with him for an hour or so, talking him through stuff to cook. Rave - at least, he'll finally learn to cook. Also, we will probably get him on some meal plan that will let him at least have dinner in the dining hall. Rant - this kid is an advanced math and comp sci student. How did he not figure this out already? Not everyone who is book smart has common sense.*Nods vigorously* I know that one well... *sideeyes the snorer on the couch* Never heard of it. Sounds like a great idea. Mrs Mo had a long FaceTime session with him last night helping him cook hamburger helper. The first meal he has ever cooked on his own. Not everyone who is book smart has common sense. Yup, I know several examples. What makes it harder with our son is that he comes across as really reasonable, but when he disagrees with you on something, he digs in his heels and it is virtually impossible to budge him. These are things that have cost him opportunities and he has admitted to us years later that he wished he had listened. But then, he keeps doing it. That being said, he generally has a really good head on his shoulders. Definitely better than me at that age. I know this one too. The secret is to gently steer rather than push, because pushing only makes them push back even harder. It can be hard when you have quite strong opinions of your own that can lead to butting heads, but I find staying calm when you'd really rather go full "Homer strangling Bart" and asking questions that makes them talk it through everything and eventually stumble across the sticking point by themselves helps a lot.

no rant, just a rave. i applied for my kids' accomodations with the college board (for psat, sat, AP) and they were approved. it's quite a process and i had no guidance from the school. i can see why richies pay people to do it for them. but i'm glad the college board has processes in place to eliminate the sleaze potential.

Rave- my lawn tractor now goes in reverse again! We had a mechanic fix it a couple months ago. I don't know what he did that time but he said if it stops working, just go get a bolt from Home Depot. Anyway, it literally stopped working about 10 minutes after I started using it. Mrs Mo was p*ssed and wanted to call the service people back. But the way the guy described it, I knew I would be able to fix it again myself. In the meantime. I had to drag this 500 pound mower backwards (with the wheels locked in gear) halfway through my garage. Then drag it 180 degrees in the other direction. So, that it was facing out of my garage when I started it (it was locked in forward gear). After getting tired of this BS, I looked into what I needed. I've seen these things used on mechanical devices, but never knew what they were called. It's called a "clevis pin". It's a way of connecting two levers together to great an elbow-like connection. And a cotter clip keeps the pin from falling out. I went to Home Depot and bought two different sized of pins and clips because I could only eyeball what I needed. I had already jacked up my tractor and put metal blocks under the tires. I threaded a clip through the holes to connect the levers, and then ran the cotter clip through it. All of a sudden, I had a forward reverse lever that could do forward and reverse again. Then, I proudly parked this tractor back in its usual spot. Freaking awesome. Below is a clevis pin:

If the bolt keeps dropping out I can't believe that they didn't put one in before.

If the bolt keeps dropping out I can't believe that they didn't put one in before. Yes, I would love to know what was originally in there. The mechanic who fixed it just used whatever he had in his van. I doubt it was a clevis pin. Probably a bolt with a nut and washer. Which would not last long at all because of all the forward-reverse.

Even a split pin would have been better!
In other news, I finally managed to find out the status of a debt I've been paying off & next month (like 2 weeks!!!) is my last payment. Ugh! So relieved. Be a nice chuck of change that I can start chucking in a saving a account instead.

Rave - I know I mentioned it on FB already, but getting to meet up with Witchcurlgirl and Mrs V in NJ this weekend. Mrs Mo loves them, and last year we did not do a good job of scheduling things and WCG could not make it (but Mrs V could). This time we planned a little better.
We asked WCG what would be a good restaurant to go to and she asked what kind of cuisine we wanted - and we said Italian. The place she booked is called "Buona Sera". It is a very striking (and popular) place. The interior has a lot of brick, giving it almost an outdoor nighttime look, and we were in a dining area with a really high ceiling and some pretty colorful lighting. Mrs Mo picked some kind of penne pasta with shrimp and scallops and like a vodka/tomato/cream sauce. Every bite of it was amazing.
Everybody seems to be doing well. We got a chance to talk about meeting up with Sputnik last year. And talked about politics, etc. Just a lot of fun.
Also - the beach weather up there last weekend was phenomenal.

Rant: Hubby and I both have Covid. Scares me to death, we're vaccinated and always wear masks and yet - he got it and gave it to me.
Rave: We'll probably move into another flat in February. It's build for handicapped people and while moving will be terror, I'm very relieved that then hubby can use a lift with his wheelchair and has a shower he can actually use savely. The rest - we'll see.
Rant: I won't have a bathtub anymore, meh.

Rant: Who the fuck is Sabrina Carpenter and why, no matter what I've listened to, does YouTube think I want her on my playlist? System of a Down? Suggests Sabrina Carpenter. Dusty Springfield and Cher? Would you like to listen to Sabrina Carpenter next?
Fuck off! I am now sworn to never listen to her, so there!

Re bathtub have you thought about a ice bath but using it in the bathroom with warm water?

NICE! I have never seen these. Maybe that's an option, even if he's gonna kill me, which doesn't interest me much anyway.

Lofty, congrats on the new place.
I'm so sorry about the Covid, though - please take care of yourself.

And OMG does she seem full of herself based on her quotes.
Rant - last night, we got a Ninja food processor. It's like a whole system that comes with multiple things - blender, etc. Anyway, the blades came in protective packaging. Which I thought was kind of weird because I've never known blender blades to be particularly sharp. At least not RAZOR sharp. The protective cover for the blades actually snaps together, and while I was pulling it open I cut my finger tip - pretty much negating the whole point of having these stupid covers. For a 1/2 cm cut, I was bleeding a lot.
Mrs Mo bandaged me up and I am trying not to disturb the cut by using my patented 9-finger typing technique.
Has anyone had success with that glue that they sell at the stores now for closing cuts?
