I don't blame the hospital for not wanting to let her alone with him and keeping a vigil. I wouldn't be surprised if he's in a room with a camera. She's lucky she's allowed in there at all given that we don't really, truly know what happened to him...just her story. And she's already proven she'll say anything.

This is what happens when you talk shit about the facility and the staff taking care of him and make all sorts of crazy accusations and take them public to the point that a lady in MS, USA is reading about it. There is no way they are giving them (and especially her) the chance to be alone with him and have something happen that she can turn around and blame the hospital for.

waterslide The nurses have probably got to be there for both Archie's protection and the staff/hospital as the mother has slung so much unsubstantiated mud around that they don't want to risk an "equipment failure" while a staff member is out of the room and then have her try to sue them for several million for "murdering" her son.

As far as a post mortem goes I doubt that after this length of time any evidence of abuse would be found. However as it is considered to be unexplained how Archie came to be in this condition in the first place a coroner's inquest will probably take place and they may well order an autopsy.  It will be interesting to see whether Lisa/Hollie will try and fight it on religious grounds, but as I suspect that CC/CLC will vanish as soon as the plug is pulled so they can go and hover over another deathbed I think she'll have to settle for media soundbites and a sadface interview with some tabloid rag like the Daily Mail. I would also suspect that she would be vehemently against an autopsy because it would show the true state of Archie's brain and organs and prove that the hospital have been trying to follow the correct course of action all along.


no1novice Pittaway is an unusual surname and the person from the article you linked is from the same town so it's likely a relative. However Lisa/Hollie's children are Tom and Lauren Summers (not Pittaway or Battersbee).  If you can wade through all the screenshots on the first page of the KF site there's a few were Lauren seems to be having a rare old time dishing out a foul mouthed slagging off to someone who upset her and encouraging others to join in.  Somewhere else in the jumble of all those pages there's also screenshots of Tom using homophobic language and calling women slags etc as well as telling his mother to suck a horse's dick.  Pretty much your standard "Oh God, I hope these people don't move in next door to me" chav talk and attitude.

Archie Battersbee, the 12-year-old who had been at the centre of a legal battle between his parents and doctors, has died.

His mother, Hollie Dance, said: "Such a beautiful little boy, and he fought right until the very end."

She said she was "the proudest mum in the world" as she spoke outside the Royal London Hospital, where he died.

Her son's life support was withdrawn earlier on Saturday.

Archie had been in hospital since being found unconscious at his home in Southend, Essex, in April. He never regained consciousness.

He died at 12.15 BST, Ms Dance said, adding: "I'm so proud to be his mum."

I was horrified that she'd posted pics of him lying in his hospital bed with all the bedding pulled back. He was completely naked apart from his continence garment protecting his 'dignity'. She should remove all pics of this poor little man, the ones show him on his ventilator, purely for the reason that they show him brain dead.

No some of the photos she posted seems to at least start to sexualise him. Or at least treat him as a much older child.

He was 12*, he had behavioural issues that got him excluded from school (so unaddressed?); She took them to court for that too & accused them of corruption.

Archie Battersbee joins a list of tragic cases of children in which the courts have been called to take the grave decision on whether life support treatment should be withdrawn.

Having a child suffer an injury that leaves them attached to a machine and a shadow of the lively child they were previously is every parent’s worst nightmare. As a result, cases such as Charlie Gard, Alfie Evans, Isaiah Haastrup, Tafida Raqeeb and Alta Fixler have struck a chord with the public.


Tafida’s was the only one with a seemingly happy ending. A judge disagreed with doctors at the Royal London hospital and allowed the brain-damaged girl – unlike Archie she was not deemed to be brain-stem dead – to travel to Italy for treatment, where she recovered sufficiently to be removed from intensive care.

Hers and other cases, which remain rare, end up in court because there has been a disagreement between doctors and parents about whether to continue treatment. In those circumstances either party – in the Gard case, it was Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS trust – can apply for the court to adjudicate.

The emotions generated by such cases have often led to legal proceedings happening in a highly charged atmosphere. Upsetting allegations and even threats have been levelled at doctors and nurses by parties not involved in proceedings.

It is therefore no surprise that according to Lady Finlay, a crossbench peer and professor of palliative medicine, the government is said to be considering an inquiry into different ways of handling such cases, for example independent mediation.

She told Times Radio on Monday: “I’m hoping that by the end of the summer we’ll have an inquiry into different ways of handling these very, very difficult cases so that there is independent mediation.


“And I say independent because, if it’s supplied by the hospital, or it’s supplied by the parents, one side may feel mistrustful of the other. But to be in the situation of adversarial conflict doesn’t help anybody.”

She added that “where lawyers get involved, things escalate, and it gets harder and harder to communicate between the doctor and the parents as to what’s happening”.

Mediation sounds sensible but it requires sign-on from all involved and that may be easier said than done. For parents it can seem like a simple but horrific binary choice: their child either lives or dies. Additionally, recent years have brought increasing intervention by religious groups purporting to support parents but who have also been accused of inflaming tensions.

In Charlie’s case, the US pastor Rev Patrick Mahoney, a fervent anti-abortion campaigner and former national spokesperson for Operation Rescue, an anti-abortion group with links to violence at clinics and against abortion providers, flew to London to act as self-appointed spokesperson for the parents.

Archie’s parents have been supported by the Christian Legal Centre, who were also involved in Alfie’s case, in which Mr Justice Hayden described Pavel Stroilov, the centre law student representing Alfie’s parents, as a “fanatical and deluded young man” whose submissions to the court were “littered with vituperation and bile” that was “inconsistent with the real interests of the parents’ case”.

Stroilov was behind the attempt by Alfie’s parents to pursue a private prosecution for murder against three Alder Hey doctors. Archie’s mother has referred to the withdrawal of life support as a “choreographed execution”. Bruno Quintavalle, a barrister who has been involved in Alfie’s and Archie’s cases, was a leader of anti-abortion group ProLife Alliance and previously brought a case in his own name challenging cell cloning.

The involvement of such third-party ideologues presents a significant obstacle to the laudable aim of resolving such sensitive cases in a less adversarial manner.

The mother of Archie Battersbee, the 12-year-old boy who died in August after his life support was switched off, wants a coroner to consider what role exposure to TikTok videos may have played in his death.

Archie sustained a catastrophic brain injury on 7 April at his home in Southend, Essex, when a ligature was found over his head. His mother, Hollie Dance, believes he was injured as a result of taking part in an internet challenge \known as the “blackout challenge” and wants the inquest into his death to scrutinise how social media may have contributed.

Dance and Archie’s father, Paul Battersbee, fought a lengthy and high-profile – but ultimately unsuccessful – legal battle against Barts Health NHS trust to prevent Archie’s life support from being switched off. She is now switching her attention to the circumstances of his injury and wants TikTok to be made an interested party in the inquest, which would mean the tech company could be called to give evidence.

Dance, 47, said: “Archie had the TikTok app. In the last few weeks [before his injury] he kept making out he was dizzy, that he could make himself pass out. He’d never caused me any alarm by putting anything around his neck or anything like that so this was a very new thing. For him to all of a sudden start that at the age of 12 years old, he’s seen it somewhere and the only thing I can think of is TikTok.”

Written submissions to the coroner by Dance’s new lawyers, seen by the Guardian, say that Dance believes Archie was “influenced, persuaded or peer-pressured online” into taking part in the blackout challenge and that the matters raised are “of real and important public concern”. They also refer to a 2008 report, before TikTok was created, by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which found at least 82 children had died in the US in similar circumstances. Dance’s lawyers, Simpson Millar, want Archie’s electronic devices to be handed over by Essex police so they can be examined.

The submissions state: “If HD’s [Dance’s] fears are evidenced and AB [Archie] was mortally injured as a result of the accessibility on platforms such as TikTok of such challenges, or messages from influencers about the same, including ‘dares’ – which appears to HD very likely to be the case – then it is submitted that such matters properly fall to be investigated as part of the wider public interest and as a means of perhaps avoiding future deaths.

“Calling for evidence, and reviewing it in the public domain, would not only permit all the circumstances touching on the death of AB properly to be investigated but would be proportionate to the risk and/or effect of the same tragic circumstances being visited on any household in the jurisdiction with children of tender years who have access to the internet and in particular TikTok.”

TikTok has a minimum age requirement of 13 but in 2020 Ofcom found that 42% of UK eight- to 12-year-olds used the video platform.

In September, fellow tech companies Meta and Pinterest came under scrutiny in the inquest into the death of 14-year-old Molly Russell. In a landmark judgment, the coroner found that Molly “died from an act of self-harm while suffering from depression and the negative effects of online content”.

The submissions on behalf of Dance request a jury inquest and also that the “well-meaning response” of ambulance staff and those responsible for Archie’s care in the first 24 hours be examined. Dance said this included why he was not flown to the Royal London hospital. The submissions explicitly state that they are not seeking for the court decisions about Archie to be explored.

TikTok declined to comment.

Absolutely they are trying to make grounds to sue tiktok - they think that tiktok will have deep pockets but I suspect they will find that tiktok also have very expensive lawyers.

Hollie/Lisa has already be clear that she takes no responsibility for any upbringing of her child, I cannot imagine how disturbing it will be for her to have it proven in court that the child actually hung himself with intent. No parent needs that but it might be the only thing that ends this.

A coroner said he has seen no evidence that Archie Battersbee was taking part in an online blackout challenge, as an inquest heard that police have found messages on the 12-year-old's phone reflecting 'very low mood'.

Essex's senior coroner Lincoln Brookes, presiding over a pre-inquest review hearing in Chelmsford on Tuesday, said there was 'no evidence at this stage to substantiate the concern'.

He also heard an update from an Essex Police officer, following a download of Archie's phone, which found messages reflecting what Mr Brookes described as 'very low mood'.

Miss Dance was in court while Mr Battersbee listened to proceedings online.

At the outset of the hearing, Mr Brookes told them: 'May I offer my deepest condolences to the both of you and to the many members of Archie's family who can't be here today.'

Detective Inspector Sarah Weeks of Essex Police, reading from a colleague's report, said Archie's mother had been 'concerned there was an online challenge going round and other young people could be at risk'.

She said Miss Dance gave her consent for officers to download information from Archie's phone, which had been taken in evidence on April 7, and police downloaded some information from the phone on June 13.
