The mother has now released a video of the monitor for the ventilator. The setting is for 14 breaths a minute but occasionally it is flicking to 15 which she says is proof her son is trying to breathe on his own. I asked Bloke about this (over 30 years of in depth experience working with vents, including design) and he says that this isn't unheard of, even in cases where there is brain stem death and that he has seen it happen himself.
Still no word on whether the father has been released from hospital or what the outcome was.

There is no way he's breathing on his own. This is not uncommon and it doesn't mean anything has changed. If he's got brain stem damage, he's not coming back.
On another hand: I hope she's not fucking with the vent settings.

Nope. However they had until Wednesday to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights (& what about poor Archie's rights to die with dignity?) and today is Thursday...

The appeal was denied but there has now been an injunction handed down by the UN to prevent the machines being switched off while they investigate whether this constitutes a breach of a disabled person's rights.

FFS!
What about breaching a recoverable person's rights by hogging a machine when the incumbent is all but dead?

FFS! What about breaching a recoverable person's rights by hogging a machine when the incumbent is all but dead? Thank you!! This is a reason I had such a problem with anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers at the height of the pandemic. I saw people who would have survived die needlessly from things other than covid because EDs, ICUs, and ENTIRE hospitals were full.

More rumours flying about thanks to the parents and the idiots from the Christian charity that are funding them. Now they are trying to say that the hospital is going to ignore the injunction and will withdraw mechanical life support on Monday. There is currently nothing to prove or disprove this is the case.
It's a terrible position for any parent to be in but they are burning through sympathy at a rapid rate.

The UK judge already declared that what they had said about the hospital & treatment was incorrect. If she carries on they are going to sue her for libel (hopefully).

This way the can't profit from their gofundme account. I think the parents are pretty suspect. Initially I had wondered if one of the parents had caused this. I think I'm too jaded.

I don't know if they "caused" it directly but if the mother & son had a row then the son hangs himself from the banister she's going to feel very guilty.

Oh no. Until I read what caused it, I wondered if it was a munchausen syndrome situation.

Life support will be switched off at 12 noon today (2nd August) unless the parents succeed in yet another attempt to drag the case into the Supreme Court.
There were some screenshots posted to Reddit from the now-locked down Facebook page where Ms Dance has been posting. In them she has used the words "murder" and "execution" to describe the hospital's actions. There are also claims that the full names of medical staff involved in Archie's care have been revealed. There is a website that has been discussing the case and seems to have people inside the FB group screencapping stuff but I'm not going to link it because it has been described as a latter day 4Chan (one of the more polite descriptions anyway).
There was something else I saw on Reddit that I think we should all stop and think about in relation to what has recently happened in the US with Roe v Wade. A Redditor in one of the UK subs has put forward the claim that Christian Concern is being financially backed by US Evangelicals and is pushing this case so hard because if they can get a court ruling that Archie has a heartbeat and is therefore alive it can be used for the groundwork to push for Foetal Heartbeat laws to be introduced to the UK, basically cutting off access to abortion for British women in the same way as it did for American women in states that adopted the law. I almost snorted and considered whether the guy had his tinfoil hat on a little too tight but... We should never say that it couldn't happen here, not after what has happened in the US. A lot of people said it would never happen there either. It's certainly food for thought.

I don't know if it's guilt, that she is just too stupid to understand or sheer pigheadedness that she is always "right" but since they are in legal conflict with the hospital how did she think that they were going to communicate with her???
Archie Battersbee's mum says he will be 'executed' today if latest court bid fails

The mum of a "brain-stem dead" schoolboy who is at the centre of a battle to continue his treatment has said he will be 'executed' today if their latest court bid fails.
Parents Hollie Dance and Paul Battersbee will learn the fate of their son Archie this morning at a last-minute Court of Appeal meeting.
The 12-year-old has been in a coma since April after he suffered a catastrophic brain injury.
Doctors treating Archie at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, East London, said he is brain-stem dead and say continued life-support treatment is not in his best interests.
This sparked several appeals by his separated parents. Government backs UN bid to stop Archie Battersbee's life support being stopped tomorrow
Archie's life support is scheduled to be switched off at 2pm today, but his parents were granted a last-minute virtual hearing at 11am.
The Government had asked the Court of Appeal to "urgently consider" a request from the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities to continue his treatment so the committee can examine his case.
His parents applied to the UN as a final attempt to prevent their son's treatment from being stopped, with the committee contacting the Government on Friday.
A legal "stay" to prevent treatment from being ended has also been put in place until 1pm today.
Ms Dance said the family have had "no support whatsoever" from the Trust, telling Sky News this morning: "Absolutely none. I know they come across to the media as supportive and compassionate. It's very much the opposite. It's very misleading."
Ms Dance said she was handed a letter on Saturday night with the "choreographed execution" of Archie.
She said: "There was no meeting, sat down and broken too gently."
Ms Dance said they were handed the letter and "just left to deal with our own feelings".
She added: "It's just caused so much stress. This could have been totally prevented and handled totally different to how it's been handled.
"We shouldn't have been dragged through the courts."
Ms Dance said the last couple of months has been "an emotional rollercoaster".
She added: "It's been very draining. Stress levels are through the roof. Very heart-breaking. It's been a very hard few months."
Ahead of this morning's hearing, she said: "It's just left me feeling very anxious all weekend.
"I've carried a lot of anxiety here in my chest. It just feels awful."
Barts Health NHS Trust, which runs the hospital, wrote to the family over the weekend to inform them it intends to end treatment on Monday afternoon.
Alistair Chesser, chief medical officer for Barts Health NHS Trust, said the plan to withdraw medical treatment will proceed unless the court says otherwise today.
He said: "Our deepest sympathies are with Archie's family at this difficult time.
"We understand a court hearing will take place on Monday morning and we await the outcome.
"The plan to withdraw treatment will proceed unless the court directs otherwise."
A spokesman for the Department of Health and Social Care said: "We recognise this is an exceptionally difficult time for Archie Battersbee's family and our thoughts are with them.
"The Government asked the High Court to urgently consider the request from the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities."
