And now a gunman has killed 4 people and himself in a hospital in Oklahoma. The same hospital my dad was in 3 years ago before he died. My cousin and one of her daughters also work in the building where it happened. They're fine, but shaken.

Oh greysfang, I'm sorry they had to go through that. I'm sorry ANYONE has to go through any of this.

The Ameriguns. Full-blown American madness. There is probably well over $100K worth of weaponry here. How much good for themselves and their children these two could have done with this money.... instead of spending it on this obscenity. (Source: Google/ Image. Credit: Dainik Bhaskar) "well regulated militia" WELL - FUCKING - REGULATED, How is this madness well regulated? WTF is wrong with those people, how does that even make them feel safer, they know they only have 2 hands, right? And even if you're in need of defending yourself, there is the limit to the amount of guns you can actually use due to your having only 2 hands ffs Sorry to be posh here, but their house looks downright shitty, there's rust on the roof, I'm not even gonna talk about the grill or anything else that looks like it needs repair, they have their children live in * that * when indeed it looks like that arsenal is worth twice their house. Morons. Grey >> That is horrifying to read, I am so, so sorry your family had to go through that, it's just ... insane to not even be safe in a hospital

I saw that photo posted on reddit a week or so ago. It's obscene to me. No one needs that many guns. Unless - you're a ballistics expert you don't need this. It's grossly excessive and 100% what is wrong with this country.

But seriously, where TF are you supposed to have a reasonable expectation of safety in the US? Schools get shot up, supermarkets get shot up, hospitals... It's insanity.

Well like so many other things, I LIVE here so I'm not going anywhere.
How do I fight it? What are good organizations that are worth giving to, who will try earnestly to fight this? If I'm going to throw money at something I want it to count.
What can I do? Write and call senators and say what? Protest? I'll show up, what will make a difference? I mean, I know the odds are stacked but we still have to do *something*. Otherwise it just gets swept aside like the bystander effect where no one calls 911 because everyone thinks someone else will do it and no one does.

Three dead and fourteen injured in a shooting at a bar in Chattanooga.
I'd suggest that we start a thread to track mass shootings in America but at this point I don't think we could keep up with it.

I remember John Oliver doing several pieces on guns in Last Week Tonight, and the show always has a "what can we do" part to end their segment. Not sure if the episodes are recent enough that it is worth re watching but that's all I can think of right now ^^´

"There have already been more than 240 mass shootings this year in the United States , according to the Gun Violence Archive. Thirty-three have taken place since a rampage at an elementary school in Uvalde, Tex., left 19 children and two teachers dead on May 24. Just this past weekend, mass shootings in multiple cities killed 11 and wounded more than 60." source
and keep in mind, the year's just barely halfway over.
