did anyone read about the smartie kid who covered herself in blood so that she could pass as dead? amazing that such a young person could think of that on. the. spot. www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-news/uvalde-survivor-interview-covered-herself-blood-played-dead-1359600/?fbclid=IwAR2ru0-YVKpQuFYsNxyd1b4a0H2k1oGI_6i5q8RdJD03Hs3nm_Olzu1cCLMUvalde Survivor, 11, Says She Covered Herself in Classmate’s Blood and Played Dead During Shooting 11-year-old Miah Cerrillo reportedly began crying while saying she didn’t understand why the police didn’t rescue them sooner By JON BLISTEIN An 11-year-old survivor of the mass shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas, described the moment the gunman shot her teacher and how she pretended to be dead in an interview with CNN. Miah Cerrillo said her teachers found out there was an active shooter in the school while the class was watching the Disney movie Lilo and Stitch. When one of her teachers went to lock the door, Cerrillo said the gunman, 18-year-old Salvadore Ramos, was already there and shot through the window on the door. (Cerillo did not want to be interviewed about her experience on camera; a reporter, Nora Neus, relaid her story.) Cerillo said Ramos entered the classroom, looked one teacher in the eye, said, “Goodnight,” and shot her. The classroom was overseen by Eva Mireles and Irma Garcia, both of whom were killed; it was not clear which of the two Ramos confronted in this manner. According to Cerillo, Ramos opened fire after that (she was hit by fragments, received treatment for her injuries at the hospital, and was released). She said Ramos then walked into the connected classroom and began shooting again. After that, Cerillo said, Ramos started playing music, which she described as the kind of music where “you want people to die.” RELATED STORIES SF Giants Manager to Skip National Anthem at Games After Uvalde Massacre Cops Keep Changing Their Story About What Happened in Uvalde. Here's What We Know Probably the most harrowing detail of Cerillo’s story came next, when she and a friend grabbed her teacher’s phone and called 911 for help. Worried that Ramos would return, she took the blood of one of her classmates lying dead next to her, smeared it on herself and played dead. Cerillo reportedly said that while she was waiting for help, she just assumed that the police hadn’t arrived at the school yet. It was only later that she learned that law enforcement was there. While doing her interview, she reportedly began crying while saying she didn’t understand why the police didn’t come inside and rescue them. Law enforcement’s response during the Uvalde shooting has garnered significant criticism in the days since the tragedy, which left 21 dead, including 19 children. Many witnesses gathered outside the school said officers weren’t doing enough to stop Ramos, who was in the school for over an hour before he was killed. Meanwhile, law enforcement officials have given contradicting accounts of how the incident played out, raising more questions — and even more criticism. For instance, it was originally stated that a school police officer confronted Ramos when he first arrived on the campus, but another official later said that no cop confronted the gunman. Meanwhile, some parents who’d gathered outside the school were restrained, pepper-sprayed or handcuffed as they pleaded with the police to go into the school. Some law enforcement officials reportedly did go into the school to try and find their own children. In This Article: Uvalde, Uvalde Shooting

^^jesus. Reading that is just heartbreaking. I can’t imagine what these poor children and teachers went through. I can’t even begin to think about the poor parents.

^^^ exactly. and now there are divergent accounts of why the police waited 45 minutes before they entered the school. and prohibited parents from entering. beyond heartbreaking.
kids are the ones who have been living through 20+ years of school shootings. hopefully they will help change things.

^^reading the account of the mother that was restrained and handcuffed was horrible. Once they let her go, she jumped a fence and ran to the school to save her two kids.
Listening to the differing accounts is maddening. I can’t believe the incompetence. People are asking how is it fire fighters go into burning buildings everyday, knowing they’re risking their lives?
I hope, like sput said, that this may spell the end of Abbott. I wish it would be the end of the NRA. If the cops are outgunned, what are we supposed to do? How are we as a society supposed to handle that? What about all the good citizens with guns? Again, where were they? The ones who are supposed to save us.

Right. If they police are too afraid of 1 guy with an AR 15, that's the first sign that the AR 15 shouldn't be on the streets.

What kills me is this: The police, who are trained for this (at least in theory) are afraid to go into an active shooter situation. They train teachers what to do, they train kids what to do. They come up with all these crazy ideas to make schools safer (one entrance... what a stupid-ass and dangerous idea!... arming teachers-- trust me, you don't want to do that), but they will not do the things that could really make a difference.
All these excuses, reasons, arguments, etc. and no one will stand up to the NRA. It is despicable. Get rid of those damn AR-15 rifles. Pass gun reform. Fund better mental health care.
Also -- if you don't want to be put in harm's way, do not become a police officer. That they would not immediately go into that school makes me sick. They don't call you first responders for nothing. Sometimes your job is going to be very dangerous.

A 11 year old child covering herself in her friends blood and playing dead for 45 minutes is absolutely horrifying. Kids were calling 911 from INSIDE the classrooms for 45 minutes before the shooter was shot.
I saw a lot of posts on reddit condemning the police and I thought "maybe they were just following protocol, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, I don't want to be a digital vigilante". But, after reading the timeline posted last night on CNN I am just appalled at their incompetence.

I don't judge any of these parents. If DarkJr is trapped inside a building with a gunman and no one else is doing anything to save him, I'm finding a way into that building and they'll have to shoot me to stop me. Probably his dad too.

I read somewhere that there's a Supreme Court decision called Castle Rock that ruled that police aren't required to protect you. It involved a case where police declined to enforce a restraining order when a guy took his kids and ended up killing them. So I guess "to serve and protect" is really just a joke.

It seems they're just very good at protecting themselves when intercepting, or arresting, or just interracting with black people. But actually run to danger to save a bunch of innocent kids? Now they have to think twice about it, somehow.

The Ameriguns. Full-blown American madness. There is probably well over $100K worth of weaponry here. How much good for themselves and their children these two could have done with this money.... instead of spending it on this obscenity. (Source: Google/ Image. Credit: Dainik Bhaskar)
