Exactly, it hurts the mid-terms and the primaries that are happening right now. Which, I believe is why got leaked now rather than waiting for few months for the decision. The thing is, where do they stop? Do they roll back access to contraceptives - because those stop a viable egg from implanting. Women will still get abortions, they will be more dangerous and more people will die. Rich, white, republicans will fly their daughters (and mistresses) to states where it is legal. Meanwhile poor women will be forced to have a backroom abortion, or carry to term a baby they don't want and can't afford. It's messed up on so many levels. They've already made noises about rolling back the case that settled right to contraception, as well as the Loving and Ogberfell cases (which granted interracial and gay marriage). This is not over by a long shot. Blessed Be the Fruit.

i'm hoping one of the liberal justices facilitated/allowed the leak and they'll never catch who did it. Lot of people think it was one on the other side that leaked it, to lock in the other four. I wouldn't be surprised if it came from Roberts' chambers since this is his court and his legacy.

I don't see how they can possibly prove where conception took place - unless there is a some form of legal evidence where you were located at that exact time/place of egg meets sperm. I do get what you are saying though, especially as so many abortions are done through mail order medication vs. an actual clinic. I also don't understand how legally one state can charge you for something done in another state.
I'm not a lawyer, though, so I don't pretend to know the legal ins and outs involved here.

This is a travesty. If we don't vote out all the pieces of shit in Texas, Oklahoma, that crater pored gnome bitch in South Dakota, Missouri, Florida, etc., we only have ourselves to blame for eventual bans of everything that has been achieved over the past half century.

Unfortunately it seems the majority of those states are fine with how things are going. I mean mine is without a doubt going to re-elect our piece of shit governor and the 88year old who is just too fucking old to be in the Senate to begin with, but you know there's an R behind their name and that's all that's needed. Fuck Reynolds, fuck Grassley, and as always fuck Mediacom.

The problem is very low voter turnout, exacerbated by voter restriction laws and aggressive gerrymandering. So a small minority dictate how the state is run, especially in deep red counties. But if all registered dem voters in tx turned out to to vote out the governor and other state officials, the repubs would essentially be gone. Look what Stacy Abrams achieved in Georgia by mobilizing dems. The same could be done in other red states.

Most speculation I've seen is that this was leaked by someone in SCOTUS's conservative camp. Judges can't really edit/change their positions now without looking like they're caving to pressure. Also, it somehow softens the blow for when the decision comes out, and we're not as close to the mid-terms. So fucked up.
Can I say a word about the partisan hackery that is "originalism?" Such a bullshit excuse to maintain the power structure for elites. "Sure, bodily autonomy is pretty much THE primary right of humanhood such that it didn't even need enumeration, but women historically have never been afforded such rights... so even though society has progressed, let's stick only with the rights that are "deeply rooted in history" because what white landowning men thought hundreds of years ago is where we derive our rights from." FUCK all that.

So fucked up. that seemed to be a common pattern during the Trump regime, they would plan to do something horrendously fucked up, leak the info to get the outrage out of the way and then do the bad thing anyway. I don't even know what to say about all of this shit. I haven't much to add...just that I'm outraged and disgusted that something like this could even happen in the 21st century in America. every time I think the conservatives can't be any scummier they manage to outdo themselves.

I actually just saw something on TikTok that's terrifying. I haven't vetted it, but basically, 38 states can vote to make changes to the constitution. So if we get 38 states with conservative governors and congress, they can start striking a whole bunch of amendments to the constitution.

Abbott has apparently stated (this week) that he is going to go after the 1982 USSC Plyler v Doe decision that said free public education had to be provided to children regardless of immigration status. So, let's sum up:
1. Republicans are going to go after a wish list of MAGA causes that are prevented by Supreme Court rulings and hope that this Court will reverse them 2. Denying free public education to children of illegal/undocumented immigrants will help perpetuate an underclass of people with poor education and work skills. Which is really not something this country can afford to cultivate if we consider ourselves a first-world nation. 3. Most of the immigrants who come up here illegally are encouraged to do so by one of the Republican Party's most reliable benefactors - the US Chamber of Commerce. Instead of punishing employers, they are punishing the people who have no money and no voting rights.
