When I first heard about this, I read Grohl found out he had a 'love child'. I just assumed it was some 20 year old from a past affair but come to now know it's a recent birth...ugh, too old peepaw and your poor family.

I absolutely agree with all the comments that rightly denounce his lack of use of protection. A man of his age and experience should know better- although, didn't he once engage in AIDs/HIV denialism? Perhaps he's just a bog-standard idiot, nothing more-nothing less!

eta: also, i guess his sperm only makes girls? It's kind of eerie. My brother has 4 daughters. I wonder (but never asked) if he had that many because he was trying for a son. The last two were twins. I consider the news disappointing but not surprising. We have a friend who is just an amateur, part-time rock drummer. And we have gotten a chance to see first hand some women's reaction. I can't even imagine who is out there at when you get to Grohl's level. Plus, I think that Grohl's super extroverted personality would put him at even more risk of stepping over the line. He seems pretty tight with fans and concertgoers compared to other stars who are shielded by an entourage. I wouldn't be surprised at news like this about any sports player either. Babe Ruth seems to be the grand daddy of this kind of behavior, although the public was largely protected from hearing about it. Oh, and politicians! Did you hear what Gary Condit's son (of all people) just accused a congresswoman from California of??? |

it's not surprising in the moral failing sense but it is in the sense that i would expect him to be smarter and get a vasectomy or wear a condom?
but yeah men have been pulling this shit forever. my great grandfather (my mom's maternal grandfather) had 3 families, and in fact my mom is close with a cousin whose grandmother was one of the two unofficial baby mamas. and i've seen photos, he was a very short italian dude, not exactly a looker, but women loved him. and my great-grandmother like a lot of women back then put up with his shit, and not just put up with it, she actually took in another illegitimate kid that he had with some other woman who had basically abandoned the kid. my mom's dad was also a huge slut but he at least had the good sense to get a vasectomy once he was done having kids with my grandmother.

But if it were a long-term mistress (or guy version of a mistress) and there was some kind of hidden agreement with your spouse - I could see that. Grohl doesn't even have those circumstances in his favor because he had to queue up divorce attorneys before he released his statement. Does not sound promising. Bad Dave, bad! (Grabs rolled-up newspaper.) Also, there is this whole "breeding" fetish where people have unprotected sex and have fantasies about having children by certain partners. "being the breeder" or "being bred". Not to be a kink shamer, but that crap is not cool. You are potentially involving some innocent kid in your stupid fetish. Aside from the cheating on the relationship the worst part is putting his wife's health and life at risk. Those things are permanent. She can always get another husband if she decides she hasn't spent enough of her life being miserable.
And probably just as bad (but slightly less so than putting someone's life at risk who trusted you with their life) is creating a child you won't be raising. Throwing money and showing up for occasional events is not being a father. I hope this girl does better by the child and finds someone (or a village of her own) who will actually want to do the work of being a parent to this child.
