Just got back from sil Krissy’s work Christmas party. They had it a wonderful restaurant on the bay called Snooks. Glad I took my gout medicine before hand. Appetizers were stone crabs, shrimp, conch fritters, fried fish, fish dip and tuna. For my entree I had shrimp and scallops in a garlic sauce over pasta. For desert I had chocolate mousse with toffy and Krissy had amaretto crème brûlée. I’m in a food coma and ready to pass out.

Christmas dinner was minted lamb shanks, herby new potatoes, dauphinoise potatoes, honey roasted parsnips, chantenay carrots and sprouts. Dessert was chocolate mousse. Neither of us particularly like turkey, Christmas pudding or most of the more traditional stuff so we just went with what we liked.

a cherimoya. and it's amazing. i've been eating them at least twice a week since i got to lima. mark twain once said it was the most delicious fruit known to man and i think he was right. peru and chile have the best ones. i never found any in the US though apparently they grow in california and other parts of the country, but I think they don't travel well and they're kind of like avos where the ripeness window to eat them is very short. it's creamy and soft and tastes like a pear and a pineapple and a strawberry and a banana had a creamy custardy baby.

When they are imported into the UK as Annona we call them custard apples - I have yet to try one but might after your comments Sput!

I think annona might be the Central American cousin to the cherimoya, which is similar but not quite the same. Delicious either way so give it a try if you get the chance.

Same genus, different variety.
Soursop & sweetsop are different but custard apple, apparently is the same. I didn't know but Google thinks it is?

I've never had anything like that, I don't think, but I'm always on the lookout for new, weird (to me/in a good way) fruits. I was trying to find someone to deliver groceries to my covid ass yesterday and had to settle on UberEats and as I was scrolling to find something to fill up my order, I saw kiwano fruit and ordered one because I was intrigued. It's so pretty when you cut it open and tastes like really pleasantly tart super fresh cucumber with notes of banana. When I was going on and on about what it tastes like I was comforted by the fact that I had the ability to taste things. Just searched for cherimoya...two grocery stores near me claim to have it. I will have to hunt for it when I get better. I feel like I've seen these before in paintings or something?

You have cobiod again? Ugh! Poor you. (Typo but full of cold so it sounds like I do right now!)
cherimoya (Annona cherimola) Soursop Annona muricata Sweetsop Annona squamosa
They all lookfairly similar, green skin of varying thickness, white flesh & big seeds. I've inspected them, cut them open & smelt them but never tasted them.
The kiwano fruit looks interesting too.

^Yeah, I tested positive yesterday and I'm going to have a telehealth call tomorrow with a doctor. I thought it was a sinus infection, but when it wouldn't go away after antibiotics, I took a second test and I have the symptoms for the Omicron variant that's going around now. I think this is the second time - the first time was before there were tests/vaccines.
