Rave (I guess): one of our other GMs is retiring the end of October and I'll be taking over most of his duties (in addition to what I currently have). Rant: I went into the office today and said GM hired a landscaper to remove not only the weeds at the front of the building but also all the hostas and other perennials we had planted - some of the hostas were over 20 years old. The building looks abandoned. He gave me a bullshit excuse that it was the most cost effective solution - which is ridiculous as the weeds will come back but the hostas won't. I'm so pissed off right now. Now I just want him gone before he does something else even more stupid. there's a special place in hell for people who tear down trees or kill plants for no reason. a friend's landlord did that in new york. she and other residents complained about rats in the shrubs/bushes/plants in front of the building and the petty asshole's "solution" was to tear out all the plants and leave the place looking awful.

Oh, that would piss me off too. I have a hosta on the side of the house that I planted when I got some free ones. It became really huge and comes back so nicely every year. I have some in the back yard too but they don't do as well with the dog trampling them. They're so easy to maintain, they like the shade, what's not to love?

Is he taking the Hostas home to replant? I don't think so - I would have though. I love hostas, LOL So do my slugs!

Hostas can live a crazy long time. Ma Kitty has one that was grown from half of the one my grandma had, and that one was grown from half of the one her mother had. It says they can live for thirty years or more but this thing is ancient.
I do not have a Hosta. I don't want to be responsible for killing a seemingly immortal plant in record time.

I always say about my black thumb, "even I can grow hostas." Bless them and their patience.

Yeah kitty, I think they pretty much thrive on neglect, so you could probably do it. Just find a somewhat shady spot.

Mild Rant- I was shopping, earlier today, and a young girl approached me. She was aged about 20 and she asked me "I'm going to visit an old lady this afternoon and want to take her a cake, but I don't know what old ladies like to eat, would you know which one would be nice?" So, I told her that you can't go wrong with a Cherry Genoa and I pointed out a cake and told her to buy 'that one'! So here I am at 46 years of age advising young people on what to buy for old ladies. It's a good job I wasn't hanging out near the pantaloons! Fukk my life!

My dad did the same kind of BS in the apartment I bought years ago, it was situated on the 1st floor of a nice little house with a nice little garden that was shamefully in a very poor state. There were 2 massive trees in it that my dad just decided to cut down, because it would be "too much trouble" to cut the branches every year so they don't mess with the electric cables That was in 2009 and I'm still mad about it, those trees were gorgeous, and were probably planted in the 30s when the house was built

^^^^ Omg that just made me furious
I have friends who also cut down a beautiful Japanese maple in front of their house, for no reason other than she thought it was “messy” and she didn’t like trees in front of houses (I swear she should move to a cookie cutter suburb…). The roots weren’t in the way of anything and it didn’t block light, but instead of the tree they paved over the front of the house with an ugly stone and now the front of their house is this bald ugly stone thing with two chairs instead of the beautiful maple. I swear I like and respect them less as humans now because of it. Another friend and I tried to talk them out of it but after a while what can you say? It’s their house and their bad taste lol but yeah I’m still mad. You. Don’t. Cut. Down. Trees. Period.

I hate to read about all the planticide above. The area next to where we do our daily hike is being “developed” = ruined, for yet more stores no one needs because there are already plenty of empty store fronts that could be used. The fucking builder cut down acres and acres of heritage oaks because the city council gave them “special permission”. I loathe everyone involved in this travesty.

Ma Kitty's lives in a tub at the side of her shed and it just seems to do its own thing. Mild Rant- I was shopping, earlier today, and a young girl approached me. Fruity cakes can tend to be a bit dry.

These stories about people cutting down perfectly good trees and pulling up hosta plants is making my eyeball twitch.
There are some assholes who moved into one of the corner lots down the street who murder the fuck out of their crape myrtles every fall/winter. It's still getting up to 100 degrees this week so they haven't butchered them yet this year but I have no doubt they'll be a huge eyesore by the time it gets cold out.

We have a self seeded sycamore with black tar spot 4" over into my neighbours garden. The council/housing people won't "manage" it and if they did totally cut it down I have said that I will buy at least 3 suitable trees (that don't grow to such a height) to replace it. They won't do anything because the arborist is a knob. The tree is in a very bad place being self seeded and totally too large. Which is why I asked them to "manage" it not cut it down. In general I am against planticide but not this one. Don't get me started on plastic grass!!!!

A sycamore tree is way too tall a tree to have placed too close to a structure or dwelling. Too bad someone didn't catch it early enough to dig up and replant elsewhere.
