It's pretty common to start braces with a mix of both baby teeth & adult teeth. My daughter got hers on before 3rd grade, she was 8 when they went on and she's now 13 and no end in sight!

My youngest got braces fairly early, I think 9. His canines weren't coming in because there was no where for them to go. We had to do the expander.

Yeah, I think early braces are really common.
