I totally agree with you, but her argument is that who are we to dictate what women a certain age should look like -- why can't she try to look an act like she is 24 if that's what she wants to do? She has a point. But I don't think she'll be a trendsetter for 60+ women any time soon. Actually, thinking about it, how funny would it be to see a bunch of 60+ women blowing up their butts, braiding their hair, lightening their brows, squeezing into bustiers, wearing fishnets and crosses and walking around carrying riding crops. That would be a sight to see. Add Sharon Stone to your list. Same age as Madonna, looking gorgeous and sexy and living her best life. To be fair, women of ALL ages are dictated what they should look like, and wear. I remember being told by complete strangers on the beach that "If you don't wear a bikini now, when are you gonna do it, when you're 60?" I was 16 and wearing surf shorts and rashguard because I'm fair skinned and I turn lobster red after 5 minutes in the sun, but thanks for the comment, random person. And also, the fuck will I wear a bikini at 60 if I want to! I know that that happens, but Madonna is not one of those cases. People are calling attention to the fact that she looks kind of bizarre and otherworldly right now. It could be a medical thing, but I kind of doubt it because she has been doing these bizarre, mutant-like selfies for at least a year at this point.

and a high powered zoom camera. "many people chose to only talk about close-up photos of me taken with a long lens camera by a press photographer that would distort anyone's face!" source: www.cnn.com/style/article/madonna-grammys-ageist-response/index.html"The 64-year-old musician clapped back at the remarks, saying in her Instagram post that the world "refuses to celebrate women past the age of 45." Hard disagree, but people will comment if you make yourself into a caricature of your old self. I just feel bad for her, not because she's aging. Because she can't accept that she is aging.Exactly. Madge: We saw your ass at a distance AND close up. It's the elective procedures that you keep choosing that are distorting your face, not the fucking cameras. She looked bizarre enough that night even at a distance when she walked out. Up close was just that much more a fright. I can't believe she thinks this looks better than having a few wrinkles that no one would probably give two shits about if she still looked like herself. Madonna has always been known for her discipline when it comes to keeping herself in shape. I'll bet she would have looked fantastic if she never went down this road. She is free to do whatever the fuck she wants with her face and body, as always. But she sounds ridiculous whining about ageism. Much younger famous women than her who also go overboard with these fillers and shit and fuck up their faces to where they no longer look like themselves also get comments. Being a whackadoo has no age limit. Quit assaulting my eyeballs, Madge.

She's like those annoying people who push toxic positivity. Just delusional and she'll never see or admit it's her vanity blinding her. Complete Emperor's New Clothes syndrome.
While the world is still largely misogynistic, the reaction to Madonna is largely due to the grotesqueness of her plastic surgery. Which is not limited to women. Everyone said the same when Mickey Rourke ruined his face with his plastic surgery. And Wayne Newton and Kenny Rogers and Barry Manilow. If you look freakish from plastic surgery, people will react.

This is what 64 can look like if you don't get shitty ps. Angela Basset literally was born the exact same day as Madonna.

Very true -- women hold all other women to a lot of scrutiny when it comes to what they should look like and wear. My mom would have been appalled that I have longer hair past 50. omg, that's so true, isn't it? That generation was so old before their time. Old lady clothes, and short hair (see below) that they had washed and styled once a week at the old biddy salon. When I look back at old family pictures, all those great aunts and my grandmother who seemed so old were actually younger than I am now (!) This is how I see them. And can you believe Angela Lansbury was 58 years old when she started on Murder She Wrote?? Yes, but that generation of women started wearing their hair short in the 1950s when that was the style. Look at the women who were the icons at the time -- Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, Shirley Maclaine, Doris Day, Debbie Reynolds -- they all wore their hair short. So women all over America wore their hair short and curly (and often permed). Even today older actresses like Jane Fonda, Sharon Stone and Helen Mirren wear their hair shorter than they once did because your hair gets thinner as you get older. It's easier to keep it looking thicker when you wear it short (or to wear a wig over it as Jane Fonda frequently does). Fortunately, longer hairstyles are still acceptable today once you get past 40 or 60 even though the texture of our hair changes.

It's not that I question Madonnas power, stamina, intelligence or will to survive. I question her choices when it comes to representing herself.
