It's so ugly here today. Raining & 64 degrees. It was windy as hell earlier, but thankfully it's died down now.
I know that's so tame compared to a lot of places but I hate when it's cold & rainy. I can take one or the other, but both at the same time sucks ass.

Massively nasty here today (Detroit area). All of Michigan really. Bitterly cold, the entire state got a storm overnight, many without power in my area (not me, so far anyway). We're just shut down today.

We had a bunch of snow (finally!) in northern Illinois. Snow day for school yesterday. Our power was flickering on and off for a few hours. Thank goodness it didn't go off. It's a wet, heavy snow. Looks beautiful right now. We're supposed to get much, much colder through Tuesday.
I feel like winter has finally arrived. It bothered me more when we were having these gloomy, rainy days in the 40s/50s through most of December. Our weather patterns/seasons have been so fucked up by global warming.
Brookie -- I hope your power stays on! Stay cozy today.

Honestly, many of the transformers and other electric infrastructure in my area was so old that it already self-destructed and has been replaced.
And I just read that there are 182K households without power in Michigan. Ridiculous.

I hope they can restore power in MI before it gets even colder.

It went from yesterday morning being 60 degrees and storming wth destructive winds and tornado warnings (I left 30 min early for work as the radar had the worst storms hitting at the exact time I'm usually arriving and parking and walking in) to being 32 degrees and dropping when I walked out at the end of the day. Starting tomorrow afternoon we are supposed to get snow that lasts through at least Monday.
We were already instructed by the boss to take our laptops and work folders home as we will likely be working remote Monday and who knows how many days after. Even feeling like crap (I have been sick, went back to work Wed, which in retrospect was too early) I hit the store after leaving work. It was packed, of course. People here flip out anytime there's extra cold weather with the possibility of any kind of freezing precipitation on the horizon.
I'm actually ok with getting snowed in as long as we don't lose power or water or internet connection, which I don't forsee happening.

Now I'm going to bitch... not about the weather, but my school district b/c of the weather. Soooo many school districts have called off because of the severe cold, and we just got a snarky email telling us to dress in layers because the buildings will be colder than usual and get here early for best parking. Seriously?
Arghhhhhh!

That sucks. My office is always open when every other government office is closed. Last Thursday the toilets were all plugged up in the whole courthouse so we couldn’t use them. Everyoin the building got to leave except us.😡

All area schools are closed today because of the low temps.

They finally called school off last night. Every other district in the area closed for today. We were one of the last dominoes to fall in our county. I already had 4 days off with the snow day and long weekend. Don't know why I was so ticked off about not getting another day.
When I did PR for my last district, I remember the superintendent saying that weather closings are the worst decisions, because you are always pissing off half the parents. They are either mad you closed the school, mad you didn't, mad you didn't make the announcement earlier or mad that you made the announcement too early and perhaps the weather will be fine.
When I was little in the 70s, you never knew if school was closed until that morning. You'd watch the local news or listen to the radio to hear your school called. It was soooo exciting! Although, I did have a little advantage... my dad was a teacher, so he'd be called at 5 am and I knew if the phone rang that early, I would likely not have school either.

That reminds me Tulip of one year. We used to get maybe 2 extra weeks of due to snow (the school bus couldn't get through the country lanes) & we had a "Lada" brand of car. Well, this was a Russian car + had all kinds of interesting things, like felt beneath the back seat & the metal under it as insulation & the time that dad serviced it & accidentally drained the oil from the gearbox too & it ran for a month with no oil in the gearbox til he worked it out & filled it up again. So... You get the picture, cold weather? No problem. So this year dad put the car in the garage (an old stable block that was a bit more exposed) & "unfortunately" the snow drifted against the doors & was too deep to dig out so he got a couple of days off. 🤣 I swear he was just sick that he was the only one in & did it on purpose.
It's about to get cold here so we have a load of weather warnings but we're talking -2C so probably balmy for a lot of you north Americans.

no1novice brace yourself, because I got up this morning to find it'd snowed overnight. It normally misses us so if we've got it then it might be a fun time ahead for you too.

I *had* to go into the office today (a trauma in itself!) and one of my friends from Manchester had crossed the Pennines & it had snowed in Manchester overnight so I think Thursday is our day for it? (Although the Met Office Weather warning says it's moving west...)
