I'm barely into it this year, but I am excited for figure skating and Super G. Are you looking forward to any events?

Ski Jump! most of all
Super G, Luge/Skeleton
I don't like figure or speed skating because if you make a mistake, it's curtains.
I wonder what kind of endorsements gold-medal curlers get? Roomba? Dyson?

I love all the snow events - jumping, slalom, luge, especially downhill. Downhill can be really wild and it's always unpredictable.

I'm into the figure skating. Especially if there's drama going on off the ice with the people.

I love the winter games. I'm not sure if it's that we just had the summer games, the pandemic or political issues but it almost seems like people barely know it's happening which is sad. I was a bawling mess through all of the summer games because I felt bad for all of the parents who couldn't travel to see their kids win medals, LOL
Anyway, I'm looking forward to bobsledding, snowboarding and figure skating.

I’ve always preferred the winter games. Just more events I enjoy.

Watching it is weird for me this year. The last winter Olympics I watched was with my mom when we took her home for her final week. We laughed at the curling loved the skating and rooted for the people we preferred. It's a little bittersweet. Great memories, but a bit sad too. I really miss her

Last night, I only tuned in for a little bit. There was a lot of hype at the beginning about Shaun White competing in the half pipe (I think) at 35. I was only sporadically watching, though, and then something really terrible/unprecedented happened. The USA women's Super-G slalom skier basically blew her second round in a row at the very beginning. I think she was a previous gold medalist and this was supposed to be a screwup of epic proportions. They showed her sitting in the snow, just staring off. That's the kind of stuff that turns me off on the Olympics.

So the Russian girl who landed the quad tested positive for dope. It looks like Russia will be stripped of their team medal and the US will get the gold. The girl is banned from competing in the individual round now.

The girl is banned from competing in the individual round now. The thing I find especially mind blowing is that they were already allowed in provisionally under a special banner (ROC) and not their own flag because of the rampant doping. And they are still doing it as the ROC.

i need to get organised and start watching. so far the couple of times i've turned it on nothing interesting was going on but i definitely want to watch the skating, ski jump and snowboarding. so far all i've really watched were the last 40 minutes of the opening ceremony, which was surreal and kinda fascinating, like really cuddly and adorable pro-china propaganda with little kids dressed as snowflakes doing synchronised routines onstage. so weird. i know all the olympic ceremonies are basically nationalist propaganda but it had been a while since i'd seen the chinese propaganda machine out in full force.

i watched nathan chen. he was amazing. also tara & johnny had much less snark in their commentary which was a plus. really hated how nasty they were in the past. saw shaun bite his first run but didn't see the second. there are def some amazing athletes and great events to watch but i am not that into it. not sure why.
and i typically don't watch the opening ceremonies because yeah, propaganda. except for the part in the london ceremony with daniel craig & QE. that made me laugh.

And they are still doing it as the ROC. This makes me so mad honestly. I know it's all money and politics at this point but if the IOC is going to ban a country, they need to stand behind it. I get they may not want to punish the athletes that didn't participate in doping, but CLEARLY Russian athletes are going to do whatever they want regardless of what flag they're competing under. Now they're letting her compete again... I love the Olympics, especially the winter games but I'm so frustrated with the politics and shit, it's taking the fun out of it. I know that it's always been a part of it but it just seems excess right now. I've honestly just been watching the clips of athletes and sports I want and not bothering with the rest at this point.
