all i know is that it is super expensive to live in HI. possibly more $$$ than LA/SF/NY. The other thing is that they are way out in the Pacific and some people get "island fever" from being so isolated. Also, they don't have a lot of pasture land on any of the islands, so the cost of beef is ridiculous because it has to be shipped in.

a lot of stuff has to be shipped in. Yes, and I think it has weird effects on what has become typical diet and cuisine. I've been there twice, and I am not joking when I say that Spam was everywhere. Which makes sense because it is served from a can and has incredibly long shelf life compared to regular meat. It is literally the only place I've been that offered Spam nigiri sushi.....

Britney just gave us some legit crumbs on her diagnosis/es- "crowded thoughts/racing thoughts" is terminology found in the diagnostic criteria for mood disorders, particularly hypomania in Bipolar Disorder.
ETA: KFed received a lump sum payment of around 1 million when they divorced. He is said to receive about 40k per month in CS along with all school tuition, fees and extra curriculars paid by BS. If, IF he is saving any of the CS it better be for the kids' support after BS' legal obligation ends, otherwise he can be in legal hot water.

Wouldn't his legal obligation end the same time as Britney's? If neither he nor Victoria have been working any regular jobs over the years, it's pretty obvious Britney's child support was supporting all of them, including their two kids and any support he paid to Shar for the two oldest. K said in court he was making $36k/yr doing DJ, yet his wife was stay at home and didn't contribute to the family income? I'm not bashing him, I'm mainly on team Kevin but from what I've read, I don't see where they've done much to have a nest egg for themselves when they're cut off. And Brit seems spiteful enough to not offer to pay for college etc.

If any monies he’s received has funded anything towards the personal expenses he, his other children or wife incur it’s a legal misuse, especially if he’s squirreled it away for such things when his boys with Britney no longer receive her monetary support. Essentially, that money belongs to the boys for their expenses, education etc right now. He can’t just keep what’s left over for himself.

That's not true at all. I don't know of any jurisdiction that demands an accounting of how child support money is used.

I didn't mean to say the system would come after him but the boys can and so could BS. We actually petitioned to see how R's ex was using CS because she gave their son nothing of what she received once he was 18 and left for college, a direct violation of NYS child support law. He lived out of her home for the entirety of his college years and when he would ask her money, she told him no. Meanwhile, he dormed at college (all tuition, fees and housing paid by us) and spent breaks training on ships as part of his college curriuculum. We funded that as well and all pocket money he needed because any time he would ask her for money she "didn't have it". The family court magistrate was not happy with her and her lack of financial recording keeping. It was literally the only dealings we had with family court where we felt the proceedings/determination was fair and not baised towards the father.

This gets sadder and sadder every time we get a glimpse. Predictable but sad. Kids wanting to move away from their mom. I get their POV, but as a mom that would gut me.

Well, they haven't seen her in over a year, so I don't know if it's getting away from her, more like getting away from the notoriety of being her kids.
Re child support, I never thought it meant every dime needed to be spent on the kids, it's providing them a home, stable environment, tranportation, etc which wouldn't be money going directly in their pockets. In many cases (like this one) it also has to do with providing them with somewhat "equal" environments when one parent has a lot more money than the other. They shouldn't be living in squalor with one parent and luxury with the other. I remember at some point KFed wanted money to send his two younger kids to private school like Brit's kids. That was a bit much and I think he got a nope on that one.
My mom used her monthly child support check to pay her mortgage. We had a nice house and also anything else we needed--I considered myself spoiled compared to some friends. When I tured 18, or when she sold the house, did I expect a payout? NO.

Using CS for mortgage on the home the child lives in is perfectly legal. It’s paying the mortgage on a house your child doesn’t live in with CS funds is problematic. R’s ex bought a house 6 months after their son left for college and essentially moved out completely- no bedroom or personal belongings in the home. He was out out because he was transitioning FTM and she was not accepting and tossed him out. She provided zero support of any kind- financial, having him on her medical, contributing towards college, etc. My stepson actually provided emails and texts to family court from his mother stating he’s dead to her and not welcome in her home or around his minor half siblings. Because she couldn’t provide an accounting where 13 months of child support was spent- certainly not on their son- the ruling ended payments to her. She was supposed to make restitution but nearly 12 years later it hasn’t happened and we don’t care enough to pursue getting our money back.

I get their POV, but as a mom that would gut me. it is sad. but my sense is that this isn't recent and her relationship with her kids has been broken for a long time. i think with the conservatorship she pretty much stopped being involved with the kids' day to day and only saw them occasionally. i doubt she ever did much parenting beyond having them on weekends and holidays and even then probably always supervised or with minders around, etc. i doubt she ever had anything to do with school or parent-teacher meetings or extra-curriculars or any of the normal family stuff.

On Tiktok they are theorizing the move to Hawaii is because of child support. In California its a hard cut-off at 18 and graduated; in Hawaii child support can continue until age 23 as long as the child is enrolled full time in college. So basically KFed is trying to get 6/7 more years of $40k a month.
