My grandmother was Josephine, and I saw that on a list of names coming back, along with two of her sisters names, Eleanor and Margaret (who was Auntie Maggie to us).
I saw some papers from the old country and they listed her name as Josefina, which is even prettier I think.

Not that I have anything against the name but I'm glad Ma Kitty didn't listen because it really isn't me lol.

Josef in my family Kitty. My mother hated/hates her father with a fiery passion so no way was I going to be anything like that; however they both liked Rebecca but one of my father's relatives was called that & he didn't like her so it wasn't happening.

My paternal grandmother was lobbying for good Catholic names like Mary or Theresa, neither of which would have suited me either. Ma Kitty also almost ended up a Josephine but Grandma Kitty wanted Brenda(!) so they settled for something completely different lol.

My maternal Gma was Mabel and paternal Dorothy, which ironically was my mothers name. I had Grammy Mabel and Grammy Dot.

My grandmother was Eleanora and sister’s MIL is Eleanor, they’re around the same age (mid-80s). I know a few other women of that generation that are named Eleanor as well. It was apparently a super popular girl name at the time because of Eleanor Roosevelt. I’m glad it’s making a comeback because anytime I see/read a little girl named Eleanor it reminds me of my grandmother. (she actually went by Leah and Ellie) Maggie & Margaret have been very popular in my circle of friends having babies the last 5 years or so too.

I work with an Elenore that goes by Ellie & she is the loveliest person.

i like some of the old lady names but some are just frumpy sounding, or plain ugly. josephine is awesome. eleanor's a great name but while it may be trendier now i don't think it ever really went away?
