James Van Der Beek has filed a lawsuit to the tune of $700K against SiriusXM/Stitcher after an alleged podcast deal made with the brands was canned.

In the court documents filed on Friday and obtained by Us Weekly and The Blast, the “Dawson’s Creek” star alleged a breach of contract based on a deal he claimed has been in the works since 2021.

According to Van Der Beek, the deal was worth a minimum of $700K with the star being paid 50% of the net ad revenue.

He went on to claim that he dismissed other offers based on their contractual agreement.

“[Van Der Beek] had other offers and potential partners to choose from in order to develop this project,” the documents read.

The podcast was going to focus on the “Varsity Blues” actor’s career, allowing him to connect with fans of his television and film work, according to docs.

“He would serve as the podcast’s host, conduct interviews, provide commentary and behind-the-scenes insight on past work, and share the kind of unique perspective as an artist, seeker, and public figure that has become the hallmark of his social media presence.”

Not only that, but he would have also discussed being a husband and father of six. He shares daughters Olivia, 11, Annabel, 8, Emilia, 6, and Gwendolyn, 4, and sons Joshua, 10, and Jeremiah, 8 months, with wife Kimberly Van Der Beek, 40.

James further claims that, by spring 2022, the deal was “extensively negotiated, agreed upon orally and confirmed in writing in a series of phone calls and emails between Plaintiff and Defendants’ authorized representatives.”

However, SiriusXM and Stitcher allegedly emailed the “Labor Day” actor in April informing him that, while they were “ready to call terms officially closed,” someone from upper management reviewed the contract and ultimately axed the deal.

James goes on to claim that during a July Zoom call, the company officially “reneged” on the deal, citing a “new policy” in which the finance team reviews all contracts and can choose whether or not things move forward, with them deciding to “reject this deal.”

“This was contrary to what Defendants said during negotiations when they represented to Plaintiff that the deal terms were created in conjunction with the finance, creative and sales departments’ input and approval. This was just a pretextual excuse to renege on the deal,” the docs read.

The actor believes SiriusXM/Stitcher should still be responsible for paying him at least the expected minimum, in addition to “general and compensatory damages” and attorney fees.

“By engaging in the aforementioned conduct, Defendants breached their contract
with Plaintiff, resulting in the loss of the minimum guarantee as well as the value of using
Defendants to build a brand and audience for this particular podcast series, as well as serve as Plaintiff’s gateway into the digital/podcasting space. As a result, Plaintiff has been damaged in an amount to be determined at trial, but which shall exceed $700,000.”

A rep for SiriusXM did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

Seriously? They could probably be done talking about his tv and film work in about a week. And the hallmark of his social media presence? Didn't know he had one.

I see a trend in 90's tv show stars trying to make a comeback in podcasting. Mark-Paul Gosselar from Saved by the Bell did it for a year, he had a fantastic co-host who helped him along when he couldn't remember episodes or co-stars.

There's also a Boy Meets World podcast with three of it's stars, they spend very little time talking about the episodes and more about their personal lives, and holey moley it's packed with ads!

Same with the 901OMG podcast with Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling, they barely remember anything and seem really dismissive to their fans.

I would imagine JVB would have had the same podcast, him barely remembering the episodes and the podcast being full of ads.

I knew he and his wife had a ton of kids, but I didn't realize they were anti-vaxxers, but I'm obviously not surprised.  Apparently, the wife was hired as People magazine's newest "blogger" in December 2020 (actually the post was updated in 2020...Dont Trust the B- went off the air a million years ago?) so I'm not sure how that panned out or if it was a one-time thing or what.

For me, spirituality is not so much about what you believe, but how you behave. It’s the system of cause and effect that acknowledges the metaphysical world. And while the inner path we take to reveal our highest self is important, it’s what we do with it that really matters.  This is sooo deep.

Everyone has their own truth. (No, they don't.) In order to live any spiritual practice in your daily life, it has to make practical sense to you. I grew up enjoying the teachings of my Christian church. As I got older, I found myself wanting something that I didn’t get from religion. I knew the morals I desired, but lacked the tools to get there. Years, research, books and several conversations later, I found the spiritual path that worked for me: Kabbalah.

As my family will tell you, I am far from being the Dalai Lama or Mother Theresa (She didn't get the memo about Mother Theresa) … I’m simply a work in progress that has been lucky enough to come across some universal concepts that, regardless of what church you grew up in (or didn’t), may be of use to you.

1. Take a pause.

How many times do we tell our children not to react to things? “It’s not the end of the world!” And how often do we take that advice ourselves? When somebody cuts us off in traffic, our kids color on the walls, the dishwasher isn’t emptied, and the hot water is gone … we’re quick to react! Now how are we supposed to ask our kids to behave differently than we do?

The next time somebody ticks you off and you feel that rush of adrenaline, try forcing yourself to take a pause. Ask yourself, “Two weeks from now, am I really going to care this much about what just happened?” This will usually allow you deal with your situation from a more grounded perspective.

2. Do things happen TO you or FOR you?

This is a tricky one, but maybe the most important. I obviously don’t mean to diminish anyone’s pain or suffering, and I’m certainly not saying that we should judge anyone who’s reeling from unfortunate circumstances. But one of the cornerstones of what I believe is that our greatest enemy in any challenging situation is our own reaction.

We can either be victims or we can be transcendent — there isn’t room for both. (WHAT?) Some of the world’s most accomplished people (Oprah comes to mind) have become so after suffering great tragedies. (??) If we can shift our frame of mind on even the littlest things, we show our children how to transcend our physical world and find happiness.

3. Judge not … because you don’t really know.

The most important thing when dealing with others is to treat them with human dignity. Judging them is the opposite of that. Obviously we need to use discernment, and I’m not suggesting we go around making excuses for people who do bad things, but I believe the less we judge them, the more effectively we can confront them.

We can tell a child exactly what they need to hear, and we can be right, but if we’re doing it from a reactive, angry, judgmental place, that’s all they’ll get from us. How do we make the shift? Give them the benefit of the doubt. We can never know someone’s whole truth. Their situation, intentions, feelings, insecurities and doubts are often concealed.

So the next time you confront somebody — child or adult — kick in some compassion and give them the benefit of the doubt and you can handle the situation with love instead of anger. More often then not (*than), your words will be well-received.

I hope some of these methods allow you to break up the robotic tendencies that we all have, and reveal happiness in your life. If you want to go beyond being an example for your children, there is a non-profit dear to me called Spirituality for Kids.

They just launched a free game-based website that teaches 7-12 year olds how to listen to that good voice whispering in their ear (disturbing), transcend life’s circumstances and find peace and happiness. It’s really cute (and cool!). I hope they enjoy!

I had to deal with floods of the hippie libertarians anti-vaxxers at wf. They were all going to illegal bars and parties and making fun of the rest of us who were just trying to make it through the day without getting covid or bringing it home to our families (this was before any vaccines came out). It led to fights and crying daily. If any of you remember my posts from that time period, you'll remember me losing my mind and that was also about the time I stopped posting (and doing anything else) because it got to me so much that I turned into a person that honestly no one would want to be around. But that's a whole different story. The point is, I never can understand people like that and even knowing they are all devoid of logic and I shouldn't even try to figure them out, it gives me headache anyway.

My parents were crunchy-granola-eating-sandal-wearing-home-wholemeal-stone-ground-flour-baking hippies before it was fashionable to be wary of antibiotics.

That said, when we needed it, we got it. We certainly got all our vaccines (yes including Polio which is rearing it's head again) because my parents lived through the inception of the Health Service.
My dad had double pneumonia as a kid and got some of the first antibiotics. They probably saved his life so they know what it's like to not have medicine to help a child survive a (now) perfectly survivable disease.

Maybe some of these idiotic anti-vaxxers should go to countries (or even regions of the US) that cannot afford vaccines and decent healthcare and then make "informed choices" about if we should all be vaccinated.
Let them sit by a child that is dying from something preventable and then we can have a sensible conversation about vaccines and "big pharma".

i just found out today that a co-worker isn't vaccinated but don't quite know the reasons for it just that it's not health related, so not a medical exemption. and i'm shocked because this is a very smart, professional, capable woman who i thought all this time was very rational and pragmatic. you never know, i guess. sometimes it's the people you least expect. i also have a colleague who was anti-vaxx and voted for trump, but still got vaccinated when she found out we were coming back to the work and she had to be vaxxed to enter the building, and because she wanted to travel internationally, so at least she's not a total fanatic about it. 

i only found out because i noticed a couple of people weren't on the onsite calendar (we have to get organized so that there's people in the office every day and we don't all go in the same days). my co-worker noticed too and because we're nosy bitches, we asked my boss' assistant, who knows everything, and one requested a complete exemption because she's basically so scared of covid she doesn't leave her house, and it still hasn't been approved because not high risk or anything, just neurotic, so HR is pushing back, and so is my boss. and another one can't come to the building because she refuses to get vaccinated so they're in negotiations to see if they will work out an arrangement so she has to present a negative test before coming into the building or something, but it's also being discussed with HR
