Royal protocol is to not show too much public affection. They are professionals not teenagers. Camilla and Charles are quite touchy and affectionate in public. They are always holding hands or touching.

^^^ Royal protocol is that everything is ok unless Meghan does it. Whether it’s hand holding, belly cupping, you name it

Oh no! Kate and William didn’t hold hands or touch each other for a moment - marriage on the rocks!! I don’t feel a need to clutch and claw at my boyfriend in public but I still love him.

Neither do lots of couples who still give the appearance they actually like each other.
Like I said, at least they're not trying to fake anything.
Everyone knows they're in it for the long haul regardless.

Politico
I remember this conversation at the other board about how America's presidential detail is kind of ridiculously over the top compared to everyone else, but I was agreeing with that foreign ambassador that I was having a hard time imagining Joe in a bus or flying commercially given that America has historically been very particular about the president's modes of transport. According to CNN, Buckingham Palace extended an invitation only to the President and his wife, so he won't be travelling in a delegation. If he had been allowed to assemble a delegation, he could have invited Bush, Clinton, and Carter...and even The Orange One. I guess Buckingham Palace was taking no chances there.

No damn way are the Bidens flying commercial - it's just not going to happen. This all sounds like a logistical and security nightmare. I'll watch it from home thank you very much.

Dammit, I'll have to put the jet on hold.
Lol the orange one! He would stand in the aisle and expect them to maneuver the casket around him.

Yeah, I kind of thought that wasn't going to go over too well with his constituents. I mean, we are very attached to Mr Biden and we need him back, and if something were to happen to him, we would have Kamala, but in these uncertain times, Biden needs to be here to get rid of all the Christian Nationalists. And I wounldn't want him to be the reason World War III starts. I guess we'll see how this pans out...I'm curious. I mean, couldn't he land at an air base farther out and drive to the funeral? Of course, that sounds even more chaotic...

He can fly into a USF base in Norfolk if he is that fucking special or the base where that American woman killed the teenager when she was driving on the wrong side of the road. Princess Anne is driven through Aberdeen, on a six-hour journey following the hearse carrying her mother's coffin. Credit: PA Queen Elizabeth and The Princess Royal during the Braemar Royal Highland Gathering at the Princess Royal and Duke of Fife Memorial Park. Credit: PA The Countess of Wessex was pictured comforting Princess Anne yesterday as members of the royal family watched Queen Elizabeth II's coffin arrive in Edinburgh to lie in rest at the Palace of Holyroodhouse overnight In a touching gesture, deference to the monarch was still observed, with the royal women curtseying and the men bowing their heads Sophie, 57, the wife of the Queen's youngest son Prince Edward, 58, was seen placing her hand on the Princess Royal's back in a supportive gesture after the coffin made the journey from Balmoral to the Scottish city Even my family, who are not royalist in any part of the imagination are disturbed by QEII's death; as "expected" as it is for a woman of 96.

biden couldn't fly commercial even if he wanted to. the rules for presidents' security in the US are such that even the president couldn't override them or make an exception. besides, the guidelines say to avoid private jets 'where possible', not that they're 100% verboten. people writing protocol know that it's not always possible and the brits certainly know how american presidential security works.

The security during the funeral will be crazy, all those royals and world leaders in one place. London could become 'full' over the coming days as up to one million people flock to see the Queen's lying in state with queues expected to last up to 30 hours and rail operators warning trains will be 'very busy'. Whitehall chiefs in charge of logistics for the historic five-night vigil have estimated mourner numbers could be close to the one million who turned up to view Pope John Paul II when he lay in state in Rome in 2005. Westminster Hall in London will be open 24 hours a day from 5pm on Wednesday until 6.30am next Monday – the day of the funeral – for people to view the Queen's coffin, but they may have to wait in a three-mile-long queue. And rail bosses have warned those wanting to travel to the capital over the coming days should expect packed trains and stations, with one industry source admitting there is 'real concern the capital will reach bursting point'. Network Rail today warned of 'unprecedented travel demand in the capital' from Wednesday. Hotel chains have also seen a major uptake in reservations ahead of the lying in state and funeral, with Travelodge revealing there had been a 'surge in London bookings from all corners of the UK' to its 78 hotels in the capital. Scotland Yard is already closing roads around Westminster and Transport for London has said services will be 'very busy' with passengers urged 'to allow plenty of extra time for their journeys and to avoid driving where possible'. The strain the mass queueing will put on policing is likely to see a number of events including football matches cancelled, with Arsenal v PSV Eindhoven in the Europa League on Thursday already off due to insufficient police. Culture Secretary Michelle Donelan told Conservative MPs this morning that queues at Westminster Hall for the lying in state could be as long as 30 hours. According to The Times, she wrote in a WhatsApp message today: 'Queues could be up to 30 hours as we are obviously expecting and planning for unprecedented demand.' www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11203579/London-people-flock-Queens-lying-state.html

I'm in the airline/travel industry and we just got an alert that the airspace around Edinburgh will be closed tomorrow "to allow for the departure of Her Majesty the Queen."
"Officials at the airport said the airspace will temporarily shut down on Tuesday afternoon for a short period of time to allow the coffin to leave safely"
Not really news or surprising, I guess. I just felt like joining the convo. lol
And also, "short period of time" my ass. I bet it will be hours and hours.

One of my patients, aged 82, told me that she always thought she'd die with a cuppa in her hand whilst enjoying Tipping Point. She then said, 'I never thought that this wall-to-wall coverage of the Queen would be the thing that finishes me off!'
