I am way more sad than I thought I would be. Even knowing how much frailer she's looked, I'm still shocked.
I'll miss seeing her in her cute little suits and hats always carrying that handbag.
Those rainbows were remarkable.
RIP Queen E
It's going to take a long time to get used to King Charles.

So it will be “Charles in Charge” for sure. I remember a few years ago, there was talk of skipping straight to William. Guess that was nixed? It was never an option. The Queen was never going to abdicate and they were never going to "skip ahead" with William. As far as I understand it, one of the whole points of the monarchy in our modern world is to be slow (at times agonizingly) and steady.

It's going to take a long time to get used to King Charles. The Republic of Australia! Too soon?

My professor said that he believed Charles would abdicate to William due to Charles's age and his whole divorce controversy. But if I'm being honest and aging myself I would say that I think he made these comments in the midst of the divorce and around the time Diana died and I think we were all (give or take) shocked by things like - gasp - royal divorces back then.

i never understood why people kept repeating that rumor that they would skip charles and go straight to william. it was never going to happen! i think it was just wishful thinking by diana fans and/or people who don't like charles and like william for some reason.

My condolences to all the UK folks here.
I had no idea it was an option for him to change his name at this point to distance himself from the other king Charles'.....never heard of that before. Interesting.
Next thought: I guess the skipping to William thing was just a rumor BUT hypothetically could be still do that? Like wait till all the services are over and then pass the crown down? I realize it's far fetched but as an American I'm not sure of the rules.

I'm really sad and my heart goes out to all the people of the United Kingdom. I wasn't even a year old when Elizabeth became queen and my mother was English so I followed her and her family forever. She even looked like my mother. 😞 I'm glad Charles has decided to use his own first name. I think he will do a decent job, he's been preparing for it literally his entire life.

No idea, I just saw the blurb on CNN. It's always been one of those random unanswerable questions from school history class... I’m sure A*O* would know. 😝😜

Damn, I'm going to miss seeing her outfits and cute hats and just knowing she was alive. Us Americans haven't been her subjects for eons but even my 21 y/o daughter faced timed me to say "mom, the Queen is dead!" The reality of a monarchy is all but laughable to a lot of us but she has been The Queen to many the world over. RIP. It's quite moving to hear the messages of condolences coming from around the World, especially from our friends in America.xx She was my Queen before I was a teenager. My best friend learned from her mother how to prepare traditional English tea. I'll miss her ensembles and especially her brooches. And real Devonshire cream. I was in London in March 1977 in the middle of the Silver Jubilee. I thought London was a true party town. We were full on American Anglophiles pretending with accents and everything. We watched Charles & Di marry with croissants and tea at 4 am, yelling Run Diana! at the tv screen. Her majesty looked particularly festive in blue that morning. End of an era for sure. My favorites are the Queen, Diana and Anne. I never minded Charles. We have similar interests in design and organic farming . I'm sad for Charles too. I believe her adored and respected his mother. He and Camilla will be happy with the job. The rest of them I never had a feeling for, not one. I never liked William and Harry when they were born or anyone after that. Good luck to the new King. Rest in peace beloved QE2. She was a dazzler.
