maybe. i just keep thinking about charles I. did harry make it there before QE died? No, but somehow I have this feeling (yes, paranoid) that she may have passed away earlier, but the news wasn't released until everybody except Harry was there. So although he may not have been the only one who arrived after she passed, the timing of the announcement will make it look like he was.

No idea, I just saw the blurb on CNN. It's always been one of those random unanswerable questions from school history class...

I've just read that she died this afternoon - then there will be "putting X in place" then the announcement around 6pm I think Harry arrived 2 hours after William so who knows if he was there or not, I can't see a time of arrival.

I thought she’d definitely make 100. I can just see the DM trying to twist this as being MM’s fault “because of all the stress she caused”. Already started. Comments on Kate staying in London have been set to Moderated. Comments on Meghan staying in London are currently Unmoderated. Yeah, I'm guessing she's already passed. The British tabloids are so obsessed with Meghan and Harry, I wonder how long they will actually focus on the Queen before they go back to picking apart everything M and H do or don't do. A day? Two? The commentators didn't even wait until she was confirmed as having passed away. They are building up a nice froth already about how Harry shouldn't have dared travel to set foot in the UK, nevermind Balmoral, and that this is Meghan's fault. Um. The Meghan hate is so far off the charts there must be distant galaxies clocking it. King Charles III is still so bizarre to my ears and feels weird to say. My History of England professor told us that Charles would step aside for William and he was wrong, so maybe I should email him. My mom was telling me that the news people (on CNN so possibly Richard Quest or Christiane Amanpour?) were guessing that he would have changed his name to George, because of the histories of CI and CII. I'd imagine any previous name would carry some kind of negative weight with it. Might as well stick with Charles.

Damn, I'm going to miss seeing her outfits and cute hats and just knowing she was alive. Us Americans haven't been her subjects for eons but even my 21 y/o daughter faced timed me to say "mom, the Queen is dead!"
The reality of a monarchy is all but laughable to a lot of us but she has been The Queen to many the world over. RIP.

It sounded like she died before William, Edward, Sophie and Andrew arrived, and they arrived a couple hours before Harry. The announcement was made before Harry got there though.
Estrangement or not, I wonder why Harry didn't travel with the others.

Harry was heading to an appearance with Meghan and I assume he re-routed from wherever he was.

Its going to be really odd to adjust to King Charles and seeing his face on money and stamps. I'm no monarchist but I did like her. Also its going to be beyond tedious and unbearable over the next few months about the coverage.

I think Hillary Clinton's tribute has been the best put American message so far.

Operation London Bridge: 10-day plan for after Queen Elizabeth II’s death revealed
By Leah Bitsky
September 8, 2022 | 2:18pm | Updated
The UK has a secret plan for Queen Elizabeth II’s death, including a memorial service with the prime minister that should appear “spontaneous” and preparations for crisis mode if London becomes packed with mourners, according to leaked documents.
Dubbed “Operation London Bridge,” the plan maps out in granular detail what will happen in the first 10 days after the monarch died at the age of 96 on Sept. 8, 2022, in Scotland.

The UK government is ready in the event of a crisis, with one memo obtained by Politico in September 2021 warning that London could become overwhelmed or “full” of people flooding the city to mourn the Queen, causing mayhem with public transport, food accessibility, policing and more.
To respond to this possibility, “Operation London Bridge” calls for a security operation to be put in place to manage the potential overcrowding. Queen Elizabeth II The UK was fully prepared for Queen Elizabeth II’s death. Tim Rooke/Shutterstock
An outline of the plan also shows that, following the prime minister’s official announcement of the Queen’s death, a service honoring her will be held at St. Paul’s Cathedral.
Prime Minister Liz Truss and some senior ministers are scheduled to attend, but the memorial should reportedly appear “spontaneous,” according to the leaked documents.
Additionally, there are plans for the PM and her cabinet to meet the Queen’s coffin at St. Pancras station as well as for the Queen’s son King Charles to go on a tour of the UK in the days leading up to the funeral as he takes over the throne. “Operation London Bridge” begins with what is named “D-Day,” where hours after the Queen’s death, a “call cascade” will occur where the prime minister, the cabinet secretary and other senior ministers and officials will be alerted of the Queen’s passing by Her Royal Highness’ private secretary. The Privy Council Office, in charge of coordinating government work on behalf of the monarch, will also reportedly be alerted. Advertisement
The royal household will issue an “official notification” to alert the public, and there are scripts in place on how officials should alert others on the news. For example, the cabinet secretary will email ministers and senior civil servants the following: “Dear colleagues, It is with sadness that I write to inform you of the death of Her Majesty The Queen.”
There are also plans in place for all flags across Whitehall road to be lowered to half-mast 10 minutes after the news is delivered.
As for social media, Politico reports, “The royal family’s website will change to a black holding page with a short statement confirming the queen’s death. The UK government website — GOV.UK — will display a black banner at the top. All government departmental social media pages will also show a black banner and change their profile pictures to their departmental crest.”
Interestingly, retweets are “explicitly banned” unless cleared for the central government head of communications, and non-urgent content should not be published. Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles Her son Charles immediately took over as king. Shutterstock
The prime minister will be the first government official to make a statement, the Ministry of Defence will arrange for gun salutes, and a minute of silence for the nation will be announced. The PM will then meet with the new king, and Charles will deliver a broadcast to the nation.
Over the 10 days leading up to the Queen’s funeral, several plans have been put into play for different officials to mourn her as her coffin rests in Buckingham Palace. What do you think? Post a comment.
There were several plans put into place in order to ensure the Queen’s return to London in the event she died in another city, namely “Operation Unicorn,” which stated that she’ll be transported by train since she died in Scotland.
On the 10th day, the state funeral for the Queen will reportedly be held at Westminster Abbey, and a two-minute silence will take place across the nation “at midday.” Processions will occur in London and Windsor, and there will be a service held at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, where the Queen will be buried in King George VI Memorial Chapel.

So it will be “Charles in Charge” for sure. I remember a few years ago, there was talk of skipping straight to William. Guess that was nixed?
