I'm sure it was. But if he's still in this fake marriage with her, he should have the balls to be all in and should have been holding her hand for real then. This holding onto the back of his pants thing looks stupid and desperate as fuck.

I cannot do that and haven't watched a Polanski or Allan film in years. I haven't knowingly watched a Will Smith film or TV show in Eons either but that's because I think that he's a dick & he ruins them for me. None of the above is getting a penny from me in tickets, viewing figures or YouTube clicks for his faux apology. That’s my stand too, like I dont hate watch things on YouTube because I don’t want to promote stuff I find hateful. Sput>> I mostly mean people crying out to ”cancel” Smith over that slap. Abhorrent though as it was, it was a slap, Chris Rocks isn’t traumatized, yet people are reacting like it’s the worlds biggest deal. My point wa I’m sure most of them aren’t that outraged when actual crime was committed. Sorry I'm late to comment on this. It's not whether Smith slapped, or punched or bodyslammed Rock or caused cheek redness vs brain damage. It's that 1. He did it at the Oscar's - the most genteel, self-back-patting of the acting awards ceremonies. Smith literally sh*t in the punchbowl and then shouted at Rock after Smith went back and took his seat. 2. A lot of the attendees are also embarrassed that they were so in shock that they let is slide and gave Smith a standing ovation later. 3. Smith assaulted a standup comedian - one of the most vocal segments of the entertainment population. They are neurotic, paranoid, and vengeful. I think seeing what happened to Rock sent a shockwave through that community. They are used to being heckled but not physically struck by audience members. I'm sure there was a lot of backchannel discussion between various comedians and the Academy as to whether any prominent comedian would agree to host again unless very harsh disciplinary action was taken against Smith.

The question that should have been asked was: Why did you initially find the joke funny enough to laugh at, then get your knickers into a knot and feel the need to slap and swear at Chris Rock?"
I think he made this video because Jada was getting a lot of hate for this on social media. People know she keeps his balls in her purse and she probably made him take the full blame so people would stop criticizing her.

Jada is tired of waiting for this to blow over. She wants to go back to being a "power couple", not pariahs.

I stumbled on this Variety article while trying to verify what was said about Gary Busey in the book "You'll Never Make Love in this Town Again". I could not find the article on Busey, but I did find this fascinating article on "Q" scores for Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Chris Rock - before the Oscar's, and in July (I was surprised at how disliked Jada Pinkett Smith was - before and after): variety.com/vip/will-smith-q-scores-revealed-slap-severely-damaged-his-reputation-exclusive-1235344749/?cx_testId=51&cx_testVariant=cx_2&cx_artPos=0#cxrecs_sData provided exclusively to Variety Intelligence Platform from Q Scores, the longtime industry standard for quantifying celebrities’ star power and appeal, indicates Smith’s numbers tanked months after the March 27 Academy Awards ceremony, when the actor smacked presenter Chris Rock on live TV. Before the incident, Smith consistently ranked among the country’s top 5 or 10 most positively rated actors in Q Scores’ semiannual surveys (fielded every January and July), which poll 1,800 U.S. consumers ages 6 and up. This placed him alongside such beloved figures as Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington, according to Henry Schafer, executive VP of Q Scores. But between Q Scores’ January survey, conducted before the Oscars, and its July polling, the first following the slap, Smith’s positive Q Score plummeted from a stellar 39 to 24, which Schafer characterized as “a very significant and precipitous decline.” (A positive Q Score of 24 means 24 percent of those surveyed who know of Smith count him as one of their favorite personalities.) At the same time, Smith’s negative rating (those surveyed whose opinion of him was “fair” or “poor”) more than doubled, from less than 10 to 26. The average negative Q Score, according to Schafer, is about 16 or 17. Nor was the fallout limited to one Smith: Jada Pinkett Smith, the actor’s wife, also saw significant damage to her public image in recent months. Her positive score, already low at 13, fell to 6, and her negative score jumped from 29 to 44. In contrast, Rock saw no effect. Between January and July, his positive and negative scores remained at 20 and 14, respectively. However, his ranking on a separate Q Scores scale, one gauging a celebrity’s level of public awareness, leaped from 66 to 84. [there's more in the article after this....]

Will Smith has a new film to promote..... That was a horrific night’: how Will Smith has tried to move on after the infamous Oscars slap Will Smith slapping presenter Chris Rock on stage during the 94th Academy awards in March. The actor striking comedian Chris Rock on stage is all anyone remembers about this year’s Academy Awards – and it has left its mark on both men Steve Rose @steverose7 Wed 21 Dec 2022 14.00 GMT So shocking was Will Smith’s reaction to presenter Chris Rock’s joke about his wife’s hair loss, it is pretty much the only thing anyone can remember about the 94th Academy awards now. That and Smith’s equally surreal acceptance speech for best actor 40 minutes later, in which he cast himself as a protector and tearfully pleaded that “love will make you do crazy things”. Smith might as well have done a Men in Black memory-wipe on the rest of the ceremony. It was the slap that launched a thousand tweets, memes and overreaching op-eds on the subject of Black masculinity. Celebrity gestures of support and condemnation immediately flooded in, for both team Rock and team Smith. Comedians exhausted every possible joke on the subject (“What does Chris Rock have on his face? Fresh prints”). Then the world moved on, but The Slap continued to echo around Hollywood. Smith has spent much of the past year either apologising or “working on himself”. A written apology came the day after the Oscars, via Instagram: “I deeply regret that my behaviour has stained what has otherwise been a gorgeous journey for all of us. I am a work in progress.” Smith made a similar video apology to Rock a few months later. In June, Smith’s wife, Jada, the target of the joke, made an appeal for Smith and Rock to reconcile. It was the little boy that watched his father beat up his mother – all of that just bubbled up in that moment Will Smith Rock did not respond to these various entreaties. “He’s not concerned with the Smiths at the moment,” a source told ET in June, “he’s touring and he’s preparing for a comedy special.” Since April, Rock has been touring the world with his Ego Death comedy show, during which he has occasionally mentioned The Slap. In July, in Atlanta, Rock joked, about “getting smacked by Suge Smith” – an allusion to notoriously intimidating rap mogul Suge Knight. In Arizona, he reminded audiences that Smith had once played Muhammad Ali. “He’s bigger than me. The state of Nevada would not sanction a fight between me and Will Smith.” In Liverpool, on stage with Dave Chappelle, he had a direct message for Smith: “Fuck your hostage video” – referring to Smith’s July YouTube post offering contrition for his attack. Smith has also been touring the world, filming his new National Geographic series Pole to Pole, and finishing off his latest movie, Emancipation, in which he plays a runaway slave. He is currently doing promotional rounds for the film, which means repeatedly revisiting his unhappy-slappy moment. “That was a horrific night as you can imagine,” he told Trevor Noah recently, claiming to have no recollection of the actual moment. “There’s many nuances and complexities to it. But at the end of the day, I just – I lost it.” He has referred to his childhood in justification: “It was the little boy that watched his father beat up his mother – all of that just bubbled up in that moment.” One party that has acted decisively is the Academy itself. After issuing its own apology for its handling of the situation, it announced in April that it had banned Smith from the Oscars and all other Academy events for 10 years. It is unlikely they’ll do a ceremony without a raised stage ever again, either. Meanwhile, Emancipation has been getting good reviews, so if it receives any nominations this season, things could get awkward. The Academy also invited Rock to host the 2023 Oscars, he revealed earlier this year. He declined, saying it would be like returning to the scene of the crime. www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2022/dec/21/will-smith-chris-rock-oscars-slap-horrific-night
