Hopefully it's ok to start an new thread on this...I thought it might get lost if I added it onto the old thread.

He might as well just shut up at this point. Seriously, a five minute youtube video? I wonder how many takes there were.

As celebrity apologies go, this seems pretty sincere to me, but I tend to be a little stupid about all the nuances, so I'm curious how you all see it.
He's an actor, so of course, it's a performance, but there's a world of difference between this and say Alec Baldwin's bullshit.

I think he should put something on TruthSocial. He could say how you could manipulate these video and audio segments to look like basically anything, like smacking another dude, instead of what it actually was -- a warm manly embrace.

The self-obsessed douchery knows no bounds. He needs to STFU for way longer.

It was going pretty well for a celebrity apology until we get to the point where he tells us, "Disappointing people is my central trauma." I remember when this happened, I was switching between the up-to-the-second updates about The Slap and then the war in Ukraine and it was surreal. I mean, Chris and Jada can feel however the hell they want to feel, but Will created his own trauma here.
I know this happened at the Oscars, which is probably the last corner left in America that carries any semblance of decorum, but it just seems like a mess that could have been handled differently from the get go by all parties...I don't hate Will or think he shouldn't act again, but I feel like if Chris wanted to talk about it, Will should have waited to bring the story back into the spotlight. I'm guessing he's trying to force Chris's hand in publicly forgiving him so he can get back to work? I don't know.

That he was basically saying that he's tried to talk to Chris, but he isn't interested, making Chris the bad guy here, and trying to coerce Chris into public forgiveness. And central trauma 🙄🙄🙄🙄 my eyes rolled so far I can see my own brain.

You messed up. You got violent. You have NO right to now try to bully your victim to give you an audience. In order for this to appear truly repentant, you need to let him process this in HIS time. You also need to realize that even if Xhis decides to forgive your actions he has no obligation to ever see or speak to you again. I really used to like Will Smith but he's still playing the idiot here.

For anyone like me that won't give WS more clicks.... Chris Rock jokes about slap after Will Smith apology videoComedian doesn’t directly address apology onstage but says: ‘Even me getting smacked by Suge Smith ... I went to work the next day’ Chris Rock and Will Smith. Guardian staff Sat 30 Jul 2022 14.33 BST Last modified on Sat 30 Jul 2022 16.47 BST Comedian Chris Rock did not directly address Will Smith’s recent apology video to him when onstage in Atlanta on Friday but he did continue to make jokes about the notorious incident at the Oscars when he was slapped by the actor while presenting the awards show. “ If everybody claims to be a victim, then nobody will hear the real victims,” Rock said. “ Even me getting smacked by Suge Smith ... I went to work the next day, I got kids,” he joked, according to CNN.
Rock has repeatedly mined the incident for his onstage show and later remarked in Atlanta: “ Anyone who says words hurt has never been punched in the face.” Rock has not publicly commented directly on the slap, including in the wake of Smith’s recent videoed apology, which directly addressed the comic. Will Smith says he is 'deeply remorseful' for slapping Chris Rock – video “I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that he’s not ready to talk and when he is, he will reach out so I will say to you Chris, I apologise to you. My behaviour was unacceptable and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk,” Smith said in the lengthy video, uploaded on his YouTube channel and Instagram page. Smith slapped Rock onstage after a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, and her appearance. After the slap, Smith resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He was also given a 10-year ban.
So both Jada & Will have "reached out" & are trying to make Chris accept the apology & reconcile to rejuvenate Will Smith's image?
Tough shit on the Pinkett - Smith bullies.

This is the right take. People are more butthurt about this than the guy who got slapped. It was a slap, and a pretty weak one at that (zsa zsa wouldn’t be proud), not a punch, and it’s not like he slapped a woman which would have an entirely different connotation. People need to stop blowing it out of proportion. Smith doesn’t deserve to be punished forever, he’s apologized and the outrage culture Olympic sport of picking apologies apart to see if they are good enough (and surprise! they never are) is boring af. If people can’t get over this then they should just never watch another will smith movie again but I feel like I’m crazy for thinking it’s been time to move on and get the fuck over this for months now… if we don’t we’re just going to get more red table talk episodes and unnecessary apology videos from will smith…

I'm still waiting to for people to be that upset about Pedolanski still making movies and winning prices, but I guess the "separate the man from the artist" only works for pedophiles and rapists.

I'm just tired of hearing about this. "The slap that was heard around the world" has been interesting for like 2 minutes. Pampered people acting like fools, now that is earthshattering. I'd appreciate if everyone involved would just stop talking about it and resume the priviledged life they've been living. Will should really stop apologizing, intellectualizing and seeking forgiveness from the public. Get over it!
