Yes I do (drink water). We do. Definitely. The lawn guy has a large cooler in his vehicle that is filled with water.
But with our heat and humidity, when you are doing anything whatsoever outside you're sweating within minutes. If the activity is heavy you're literally sweating buckets and losing waaaay too many electrolytes to keep at it merely water.
I personally don't drink gatorade because I don't care for it and I'm avoiding anything with sugar. But if I'm going to be outside in the garden working or outside for long enough that I need more than just water, I'll have something with electrolytes in it that has no sugar.
Lately I've been a fan of lemonade flavor vitamin water zero, but I mix it half and half with water. I fill up my stainless steel drink container with ice and this mix (and sometimes squeeze a little lemon juice in) if I'm going to be outside for more than a half hour. If I don't have any on hand it will be plain ice water in the container, and I'll make sure I eat a handful of something a little salty every hour.
There's other powdered single serve drink mixes I have with electrolytes and I can put one of those in my water as well. Just depends. But I'll be honest, I don't do these full strength cause I think they're too strong for me. I'll usually mix half and half with water.
For the guys, they pretty much have to go with something like gatorade or powerade. I used to give DarkJr Vitamin Water with the purple label which has more electrolytes when he was playing little league.
When I was younger I used to see the older teenage boys who played sports (and practiced outside in this heat) have salt tablets! I don't think they're allowed to let them take those anymore. Now I think they use the flavored drops added to water, the ones which have electrolytes. Dark Jr likes those too.

i thought novice was impressed by your grasp of celsius which not all americans get but yeah it's great that you make the lawn guy hydrate and take a break, so many people are inconsiderate about that sort of thing
re: gatorade, it's very popular here. i don't like it because i also avoid sugar especially refined sugar but it's true that the heat in parts of the US is so extreme you need electrolytes if you're doing a lot of activity in the heat. but i feel like everything has either sugar or artificial sweeteners which i also avoid, maybe they sell powdered mixes that don't have either? i need to look into it, especially for summer hikes but for day to day i try to stick to natural things like lemons or even coconut water. the humidity around here makes you sweat like a pig, much more than dry heat would, so you definitely need to replenish electrolytes.
my summer drink of choice is sparkling water (you can pry my soda stream from my cold dead hands) with half a lemon squeezed in, and ice. i can drink litres of that in summer and lemons have lots of electrolytes.

When ExMrD used to do the lawn work when we were married, I had to start making him take a gatorade/powerade break in between the front and back yard after an instance where he came staggering inside drenched, pale, with a headache, nausea and muscles cramping up.
I seriously came within a hair of taking him to the ER for IV fluids, but he kept saying no. I spent the next few hours watching him close while helping him cool off, rehydrate, replace electrolytes (I made him eat some crackers initally, which he kept refusing but I said if he didn't we are going to the ER or I'm calling 911) and he slowly got better.
He actually did have a bottle of water out there when he started. But he'd drank it all before even finishing the front yard. And he went ahead on the back yard without stopping.
He agreed after that event that he would definitely break and hydrate/replace electrolytes between the front and back yard going forward.
Celsius vs Fahrenheit, I'm only slightly better than the average american at this due to being in the medical field
I think here is where we women have a slight edge over the men as our bodies are a bit better at retaining fluids than theirs. But that doesn't mean this couldn't happen to me out there too.

Haha! Sput was right, I was impressed that you could translate F to C but I didn't want to take the wind from your sails re the breaks & Gatorade
I have to admit that with all the water (Sput - try cutting the lemon into pieces + freezing it & then adding it 's lovely!) I did take my electrolytes to my office as Tuesday I wasn't coping with the heat.
I am glad that he has a big container of drinking water it seems that so many Americans don't drink water but do drink soda.
Also - I love my soda stream!!! I am struggling to get gas containers right now.

lol yeah I’m always impressed when I meet Americans who get Celsius. I’m not totally lost with Fahrenheit like I was at first but even after a decade here it still doesn’t come naturally and I don’t have the same grasp of it. Like, I know exactly what 23C feels like but with Fahrenheit it’s more of an approximation

I get celcius, but I went to high school in Belgium, so I don't really count.

Oregon here - so similar climate to the UK, maybe a bit warmer. Last summer we got up to 116° F - 46° C. It was brutal. Thankfully we have A/C, but a lot of people don't. Seattle got the 108°, less than 1/2 of people have a/c up there.
Hang in there, no1novice! Hopefully it just lasts a few days and you get back do somewhat manageable temperatures.

I had a steam shower earlier as my allergies are kicking my arse & get lovely & cool but it's midnight now & the air is still & so warm outside, reminds me of living in SoCa tbh and It's ok.

Do you folks not drink water? I drink lots of water all day, but I still get extra dehydrated, especially when working my more active jobs, so gatorade does come into play. I'm not fucking around with being dehydrated at this point in my life and will take the easy electrolytes where I can get them. It's even worse when you're not eating on a normal schedule...When I was sick last winter, I drank so much gatorade and it still didn't help. I don't think I was "normal" until about May. I am still traumatized by whatever that illness was and I have an (ir)rational fear of dehydration now. Back when I was in college, we had a heatwave here and it was catastrophic and we are a place that's known for getting extremely hot in the summer. But normal is humid 90s, not humid 100+. A lot of people died that summer and the mayor at the time wasn't quite having a farewell party at Chequer's, but many feel he didn't do enough to open cooling centers and a lot of people did not have AC even then. Bodies were piled up and people couldn't even get to their loved one's remains. It was in the 90s at midnight and entire families were out in their cars driving around because their cars had AC, but they didn't at home. Add to that the rolling blackouts which meant that there had to be cops at every major intersection directing traffic in that heat...it was a nightmare. Anyway, I always worry about people in these kinds of heatwaves because even when you're used to heat, it can sneak up on you. edit --- so I was answering something from the last page and not this page and no one cares about my gatoradofesto. I usually can guess F/C just from being in Canada and I actually try to put both since I know the US are the outliers on the stupid units of measure. I know 30+ is hot and 23 is nice and 0 is our 32 and our idea of subzero temps is different than yours...

If it's Fahrenheit 90s and up I'm pretty good with C conversion because of taking patient temps. Sometimes you have equipment that registers Celsius.

I've had a couple nurses tell me my temp in celsius before, come to think of it.
