My favorite song of all time is Bell Bottom Blues, so I can’t agree about the music, but he’s a POS otherwise.

I just came here to say l truly think Eric Clapton is a piece of shit and his music sucks. His discography of great hit songs is rather limited. He's a piece of racist scum and also an anti-vaxxer.

I just laughed my ass off. I mean, poor Lindsey isn't charming, a good talker or nice, noone ever cared for his pov. Who wants to talk with LB when Stevie Nicks is in the room? Seriously. Yeah, Eric Clapton is a piece of work. Made a legendary career out of copying black music and is just plain racist. You can't make that shit up. I heard him doing a cover version of Stevie Wonder's "I ain't gonna stand for it" on Youtube. Tons of white people comenting that he gave the song so much more meaning. GMAFB! Who could make a Stevie Wonder song better in the first place? And then Eric Clapton of all people?. It boggles my mind. There are a whole bunch of those SNL skits on YouTube if you're interested. Someone in the comments once said that's how their brain feels like having ADHD and I totally related to that. But yeah, I would knock down Lindsey Buckingham to get to Stevie any day. lol Eric Clapton is definitely a piece of work and it pisses me off that I didn't even know that until I was well into adulthood. Critics and fellow musicians worshiped at his guitar genius that I never heard a bad thing about him until much later in life. Racist, white supremacist, virus-denying, anti-vaxxer piece of shit. I like some Cream songs. And The Yardbirds. And Layla and Bell Bottom Blues, too. It sucks getting older and finding out artists you love or like are disgusting. (See: Morrissey)

Badge. When I hear that song I want to turn it up to 11.
Yeah, he's a dick but it doesn't mean he didn't have some great songs and play in some great bands. Blind Faith was another.
I read Pattie Boyd's memoir several years ago and it seemed to me that as much as he pursued her and wrote all the love songs for her, once he got her he treated her like crap.

So, I knew people called him a racist but didn't know any details and was honestly thinking, "How bad could it possibly be?" I'm an asshole who could never have imagined anything like this (copied from his Wikipedia page): Jesus wept. What an asshole. I will never enjoy any of his admittedly brilliant work again.

Even leaving aside that insane rant of his, I've always felt like listening to Eric Clapton's music was like being forced to eat my vegetables.

More from his Wikipedia page:
Can any of the Brits here explain how he was still awarded a CBE? I mean, sure, services to music and entertainment, but are there no baseline decency requirements? Genuinely asking.

Well, I don't feel so bad, because like I said, I didn't know about Eric Clapton's racism until adulthood, but I do remember when I did learn about all this and expressed shock, someone somewhere on the internet implied I was stupid for not knowing because "everybody" knew. Seems to me that wasn't true. Also seems to me that Eric either had amazing PR or a lot of luck because I just don't get it. I guess he went 56 years without speaking about "politics" (racism shouldn't equal politics unless it does...) until the pandemic (which also shouldn't have been regarded as political, but here we are.) Even leaving aside that insane rant of his, I've always felt like listening to Eric Clapton's music was like being forced to eat my vegetables. I feel like that when I have to hear "Tears in Heaven".

Wonder if Roger Waters was thinking of him when he wrote, "Are there any queers in the theater tonight? Get 'em up against the wall"

Genuinely asking. They get nominated & the old racism anti-vaxxer probably said it was the alcohol talking - even if we know better. WOWZA… l think GR has to hold this accountable… from now on, he shall be referred to as. ”slap the Clap Handycap.” "Handicap" has nothing to do with being a racist anti-vaxxer "Differently able" "wheelchair user" etc is a much nicer way of putting that someone has different needs. Being a racist anti-vaxxer is *nothing* to do with this. Also, since he's had issues since 2016 maybe he should have been more honest.....
