I thought it was a confirmed and known thing that there were covid cases in North Korea, regardless what they claimed, so I'm just wondering what the hell changed to make this a "major national emergency" at this late date. CNN

they need help. that's the only reason they're admitting to covid cases in the country. little kim started sounding the alarm about famine/food shortages a while back too, obviously not admitting to the full extent of the problem or even close to it but DPRK experts know how to 'read' the official statements.

That's what I thought regarding needing help. I can't imagine what they could possibly be doing other than fumigating store shelves and it's even hard to imagine that they have ventilators...like maybe they have a broken one in Pyongyang that they show visitors. And never mind testing and vaccines. I guess China would be their only obvious avenue of support at this point.
