Just thought I'd start a thread for true crime since I'm always looking for new stuff to listen to in that genre. I listen to a lot of YouTube crime stuff more than I watch, so maybe there's a bit of a crossover here. The other thing is, I never remember the names of anything I've listened to, but I tend to remember the cases so I really bad at listing podcasts I've listened to.
In the past, I listened to Finding Maura Murray because a coworker suggested it and the book by James Renner. I feel like I've lived Maura Murray's life by now.
Right now, I'm listening to MrBallen on Audible (available anywhere I think). He's not strictly a true crime creator and he doesn't do deep dives into cases. He tells everything in "story form" and the topics range from the unexplained to paranormal to murders. It's nice to put on when I'm in the shower (though some of the stories are kind of spooky). He is the most amiable, friendly storyteller I've ever heard.
On YouTube, I listen to Stephanie Harlowe (who does really deep dives), Crime Weekly (Stephanie Harlowe and Derrick Levasseur, Kendall Rae (she's been around forever but I never listened/watched until recently), Danelle Hallan, Bailey Sarian (but I have to be in the mood for her), Danielle Kirsty, Reignbot (she does a lot of true crime and strange stories from Asia), and lately Nexpo. Some of these channels do a lot to boost the awareness on the cases and donate to the families, which is cool.
This isn't true crime, but I was really enjoying a podcast called I Spy which is put out by Foreign Policy and is hosted by Margo Martindale (and I want to say Hayley Atwell was also a part of it) and it basically interviews spies from around the world. IIRC, one of my favorites was an MI5 dude who went undercover in Northern Ireland during The Troubles. I don't know if they are making new episodes.

I'm a true crime podcast junkie. I follow the below. Most are single subject episodes (some are multiple episodes about a single persn/case) some are one season per case/person.
CounterClock The Prosecutors Behind the Bastards Paper Ghosts Big Mad True Crime Minds of Madness Going West The Vanished Podcast Gone South Bonaparte Hell and Gone To Live and Die in LA (only 2 seasons right now and season 2 blew my mind)

Awesome! I need some new stuff to listen to and sometimes finding new podcasts is too daunting for me. I never know if I want to invest my time.

I’m another one obsessed with True crime podcasts. A few of my favorites:
Casefile Going West True Crime Garage Your Own Backyard (kind of a local SoCal case about Kristin Smart) The Prosecutors park predators (not my fav, but she covers pretty interesting cases) The Vanished
i recently listening to HLN’s Very Scary People. It’s narrated by Donnie Wahlberg (and he’s really good) and it’s about the true story behind Amityville Horror.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'm gearing up to be listening to them soon when (if?) I ever find someone to hire me. I think I'm going to have long, annoying commutes in my future. I'm going to take pics of the thread so I can remember the names.
I thought about starting my own podcast for local true crime, and it could fill several libraries at this point, but I'm scared to do one by myself and I don't really know how to splice them together and...Everyone makes it seem so easy!

Much, much better show than PP, imo.

I just finished all three seasons of "In The Dark". Highly recommend season 2. The US legal system (I refuse to call it a justice system) often blows me away.

Holy shit - Paperghosts season 2 is from Bethel, Ohio - not too far from my hometown. I don't remember this case at all but I was a kid, so I guess I wouldn't. Thanks for the recommendation!

Your own Backyard is getting a lot of play these days because the main suspect in the disappearance of Kristin Smart, Paul Flores, and his piece of shit father (Ruben) are currently on trial. If you listen to the podcast, you’ll see what incredibly horrendous people they (the entire Flores family) are. Mother, father, stepfather, and the killer shitbag himself. I really think this podcast is what ultimately pushed for a new, deeper investigation into the Flores family.

I starter listening to Suffer the Little Children, cases of children killed by parents/caregivers. It’s killing my soul. I don’t usually follow cases involving children other than peripherally because I can’t deal. I can’t turn it off and I’m in tears every episode. The host often has family/friends on and it’s just so sad to hear their pain and other times rage inducing at how they tried and their local authorities turned a blind eye completely or were just incompetent.
