Be honest. Is this mean?

Nope. Seems like a handy tool.

If you've ever tried to give a pill to a cat without being clawed to death, you'd know the answer is no. But of course, first you have to get them into that contraption...

Vets use restraints all the time to provide treatment to animals and keep everyone safe. I don't think it's mean at all.

I don’t think it’s mean and when I my cat was little he would squirm like mad if you tried to cut his claws. He wouldn’t scratch or bite luckily but it was impossible to do without someone else assisting and even then I basically had to wrap him in a towel like a burrito and mimic this contraption. He’s used to it now luckily.

Nope. The vets I worked for used towels to restrain cats all the time, they'd wrap them up in a "kitty burrito," as they called it. It was quite the skill to watch, you had to be fast.

Nope, I don't think it's mean.
I have a Cat Sack which I use when I have to do something I know she'll hate. Usually, it's grooming related.
Luckily, I don't really need it for medication because she'll take gel caps pretty easily in Pill Pockets, which is good because she has CKD, so she gets supplements every day (various B vitamins) and nausea medication every other day. She would hate me if I was putting her into the Cat Sack every day.
