Johnny Depp’s $50m defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard

I just read that Amber claimed to use a very specific item/brand of concealer to cover her bruises. The cosmetics company called bullshit because the item wasn't available until 2017.

A makeup brand is disputing a claim made by the actor Amber Heard's lawyer that Heard used one of the company's products to cover up bruises during her marriage to the actor Johnny Depp.

In a viral TikTok video posted Thursday, the drugstore makeup brand Milani said the product in question — the Milani Conceal + Perfect All-in-One Correcting Kit — was released in 2017, a year after Heard filed for divorce from Depp. The video has since been viewed 4.6 million times.


"You asked us… let the record show that our Correcting Kit launched in 2017!" the brand captioned the video, which is played to a remixed version of the "Backyardigans" song "International Super Spy."

Depp is suing Heard, accusing her of ruining his career and reputation by insinuating in an op-ed article that she had been a victim of domestic violence at his hands. The defamation lawsuit asks for $50 million in damages.


Heard responded to Depp's lawsuit with a $100 million counterclaim alleging he assaulted her before and during their marriage. Heard's lawyer had said Heard used the Milani product during the couple's marriage to cover what the lawyer said were bruises caused by Depp.

During his opening statement earlier in the week, Heard's lawyer J. Ben Rottenborn had presented the makeup kit in court, per Yahoo News.

"This was what she used," he said, holding the compact in his hand. "She became very adept at it. You're going to hear the testimony from Amber about how she had to mix the different colors for the different days of the bruises as they developed in the different coloring and how she would use to touch those up to be able to cover those."

Depp and Heard were married in 2015 with only 20 to 25 people in attendance, People magazine reported. They divorced a year later, after Heard appeared in court with a bruised face and requested a restraining order against Depp.

It's weird they chimed in on this.  But beyond that, I can't imagine she would use drug store concealer.

Hey, my son just played a clip for me of one of Amber Heard's attorneys shouting objection to a question a witness was answering. Then, Depp's attorney says, "It was YOUR question".

Oh absolutely. She will have her own psychologist testify and say she's fine. They always get dueling hired guns. 

This witness was pretty good though. A little too much pointing out characteristics of a borderline which fit Depp's narrative. Not exactly unbiased IMO. But Amber's lawyer did her case no favors in cross-examination. If the jury buys it, when Amber gets on the stand, they might just shrug it off as coming from a histrionic, exaggerating woman.

Heard’s Legal team is a train wreck!

Their mishaps so far today:
-Heard’s lawyer objecting to his own question
-the muffins, seriously, completely lacked relevancy
-female lawyer’s attempt to discredit the psychologist on cross was laughable.
Her tone was too accusatory and her attempt to trip up the Dr failed miserably.
Example: “MMPI is not the most current version of the assessment”, Dr “It is the most researched”.
They really did not do justice for Heard on the cross of that witness.
-Heard’s own witness, a Police Officer responding to her Domestic Violence call: "I did not identify her as a victim of domestic violence"
Looking forward to seeing Heard take the stand.

Yeah, Heard's lawyer was trying to show that the psychologist was a hired gun who was only on the stand because her conclusions supported Johnny's case. Which is true of course. She failed miserably though.

One thing I have to say about the psychologist, knowing she was going to be on national tv, you'd think she would have tried to do something with her hair. Like maybe brush it?

I think she adopted a baby recently. I don't pay that much attention to her until this particular trial started, but saw a blurb about it at some point.

I have a million thoughts about both of them, but I think everyone's gone over them here. They're both messes.

The only really new thought I had is probably irrelevant, but I read an article about the finger tip incident recently and listened to part of an audio recording (again with the recordings...have they learned nothing from Richard Nixon?) and saw the infamous picture taken of Johnny's hand. I distinctly remember us discussing at the old board how gross and nasty his hand was at the time because his fingernails were all black and gross and I remember being judgey about it myself. But when I looked at the photo again the other day, I realized that his fingernails probably had dried blood in them. I cut my pinky at work back in January with a 12" slicing knife and there was blood everywhere.  I ended up with three stitches and  in all that time between cutting myself and coming back to work from urgent care, I never washed the blood off my hand it looked pretty much like his hand did and I had to really scrub to get the dried blood off both my nails and skin. 

tl;dr...I now kinda feel bad that I automatically assumed he just hadn't washed his hands in a year.  In my defense, that was the "corn teeth" Johnny Depp era, so it was sort of a logical conclusion.  


ETA --  Amber had a baby via surrogate --  she did not adopt.  My bad!

I dont understand the constant talk of a severed finger. The finger tip was sliced. JD then proceeded to use the blood from it to write rude msgs on the wall and lampshade. Both of them were/are totally effed up. Neither are victims. As for JD not playing Jack Sparrow again, talk about kicking a dead horse.
