I have no style and no idea how to go about getting style. Any suggestions on good places to start for figuring out how to piece together a decent look?

start by figuring out what style you even like. and then once you do that you can go about figuring out how to make it work for your lifestyle (are you looking for work clothes, casual clothes, etc), body type and budget. if you go through fashion magazines or instagram, etc, what catches your eye? are there any celebrities whose style you like when you see candid/parazzi shots of them out and about?

"I have no style" Sorry I laughed XD That's a bit hard on yourself! You probably do have a style though you may not feel "stylish" (Do I make sense?) What do you usually wear? What colours and cut seem to be your go-to? Sometimes it boils down to accessories as well, maybe a belt or a handbag could complete a "bland" look and make it appear more stylish You could also go to a hairdresser to get advice there, a good haircut and hair style (says the woman who lets her partner cut her hair in the bathtub with Ikea scissors lol) make you look good even if you're throwing your trash wearing yoga pants

I just wear jeans and t-shirts, even to work. I want to step it up a bit though.

You’re young, you have plenty of options. 😎 Maybe switch from jeans to chinos or linen pants or skirts or dresses and see if you like them. Combine with blouses/tops/button down tanks in fabrics and colors that appeal to you and suit you. Find wedges or cute sandals that complement the pants/shirt/skirt/dress. Then add a cropped denim jacket or neutral linen blazer, or both because they’ll go with most of the above. Accessorize with whatever earrings/jewelry you like, plus a modern bag. If any of that suits you, you can veer out of your comfort zone more and more and experiment with bolder prints and colors, and different fabrics and textures.

If you feel comfortable in jeans and t-shirts, start there. that’s a pretty good base that can easily be styled to look more chic. First of all what kind of jeans are you wearing? I love black jeans because they almost pass for regular pants and are even easier to dress up. Also make sure the cut and style of your jeans works for your body. I like a high waisted look and a bit of a cropped leg but you have to find what works for you. I like everlane a lot for jeans. You can get some silk tshirts to replace your more casual ones, or a nice striped tee, or a dressier black or white t-shirt, tuck them into your jeans, add a belt and a loose blazer, roll the sleeves on the blazer and add a pair of nice leather flats like loafers or Chelsea boots, some gold earrings and you’ve got an outfit. Pro tip: get t-shirts in thinner material that will drape better. Also, iron your t-shirts, you’ll be shocked what a difference it makes. That’s basically what I wear to work most days unless I’ve got more formal meetings.
Everlane also great for t-shirts, or basically any elevated basic. If you don’t have a store nearby, order different styles and sizes online and figure out what works for you. If you can, invest in a few good pieces that you can build a ton of outfits around. You’ll get a lot more wear out of them. But figure out what you like and what works for you before spending a lot of money. Do you use a handbag? What type? Do you need something large or small?
There’s also some instagram accounts you can follow for fashion advice. Will post some links tomorrow.

Switching a T-shirt for a nice flowy blouse could also be a way to look less teenage casual - or a crip white shirt. Pair that with a waistcoat or a blazer and even with jeans it looks really nice. Mostly, what Sputnik said I’m a dress person, because I can be bothered thinking or coordinating a top to a bottom (and being goth I hate hen the blacks don’t match ) I think dresses give you pl Ty of options, and can look nice with pretty much any type of shoes.

great advice here!
i've started to upgrade my wardrobe/style last year and it was very helpful to keep pics for inspiration. like what kind of look you would like to achieve. it is very hard for me to go out of my comfort zone so i totally relate to get more stylish versions of what you already like wearing, and keep it simple until you gain more confidence.
i had to pause my plan for a moment now because of life things lol so far i've updated my 'home' wardrobe giving i'm spending a lot of time inside.

If you're American, living in a rural/semi-rural area out west helps a lot, no one cares about style. If it rains over 200 days a year that's even better.
