Richard Lewis, the comedian and actor known for his roles on the HBO comedy "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and in the film "Robin Hood: Men in Tights," has died. He was 76.
Lewis died of a heart attack at his home Tuesday night in Los Angeles, his publicist Jeff Abraham said in a statement to ABC News.
The comedian revealed last year that he had been living with Parkinson's disease, according to the statement.
"His wife, Joyce Lapinsky, thanks everyone for all the love, friendship and support and asks for privacy at this time," the statement said.
Lewis was best known for his dark and self-deprecating sense of humor, starting his career at comedy clubs and making appearances on late-night talk shows like "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson" in the '70s.
He starred on the ABC sitcom "Anything but Love," a workplace romantic sitcom alongside Jamie Lee Curtis for four seasons between 1989 and 1992. The pair played co-workers at a magazine office in Chicago who struggle to keep their feelings out of the workplace.
He also played a fictionalized version of himself on Larry David's "Curb Your Enthusiasm," where he can be seen in the 12th season which is currently airing.
On the big screen, Lewis most famously played Prince John in Mel Brooks' comedy classic "Robin Hood: Men in Tights" opposite Cary Elwes as the titular character.
In a video posted to X, formerly Twitter, in April 2023, Lewis announced that he was retiring from stand-up comedy after nearly 50 years.
He also revealed in the video that he'd been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease about two years prior.

Oh fuck. Rest in peace you funny man. I will always think of Richard as a stand up. With Johnny Carson, Letterman and Conan. He made me laugh. He could set up and deliver a joke with many twists and turns. I will always remember Richie the rock opera.. Wake up Richie wake up Richie. Leave me alone Ma I want to dream of making love to Julie Christie. He was a natural.
Not many left for me. No Carlin, Brenner, Joan and Richard. Jewish humor with neurosis and hysteria. Glad to have Youtube. He was great on Curb. Sad sad face.

He's been ill for years but this one broke me a little. LOVE him. Completely ahead of his time. The master of acerbic wit.
And Larry David's statement was tear-inducing. VERY warm for Larry. They've been friends since childhood.

Letterman - "Mother's Day is coming up...." Richard - "Yeah... I'm having my lawyer draft a Mother's Day card" Richard - "I was having phone sex with my girlfriend.....she put me on hold". I remember when Richard was dating the actress Nina Van Palandt. She must have been in her 50's and he must have been in his late 30's. She's 91 now. That just sounds so strange. She played Richard Gere's madam in American Gigolo.

I remember watching Anything But Love & being bummed when it was cancelled. But I haven’t thought of that show in years until this thread.
I love him on Curb. I love his & LD’s interactions with each other. He’s looked really ill for a long time now. I couldn’t believe how sickly he looked on season 11 of Curb. I thought maybe he had cancer & was not going public with it. I was shocked that it was a heart attack.
I haven’t watched any of season 12 yet because I don’t have HBO, so I’m waiting till all episodes are available & I’ll just get HBO for a month & binge.
RIP.
