With the way Barbie got snubbed I am considering boycotting the ceremony myself. Since we generally have a watch party type thread every year, I was wondering if you guys wanted to forego that this year. Its 100% up to you via poll results.
ETA: I don't mean boycott the fashion threads, just the watch party thread.

I may boycott, but if Ryan Gosling promises to show up to the awards in pink plastic hot pants in protest, I might weaken.

i don't even know where i can watch online here but if i can figure out where to watch i probably still will because i'm a sucker for boring awards shows. also for me the only real barbie snub was in the best director category), i was personally more pissed about 'saltburn' and 'may december' and the fact that women directors continue to be ignored or only nominated one at a time but the woman director thing isn't just an oscars issue.

I don't care so much about Margot, but Greta getting snubbed again is absolutely egregious since this is the second time she's had a best picture nomination but no best director.

I don't watch anyway, but I'm not too ate up with it. it's not either or. i think this is a really reductive and pretty counter-productive statement, and implies that there's only room for one woman or one minority at a time, or that because this woman got nominated that should be enough and we should stop complaining about all the other women that were left out. it's great that a native american woman is nominated but that doesn't mean she took the spot that some people assume should have gone to margot robbie, or that deserving actresses (regardless of their race) weren't snubbed. i don't think barbie got snubbed in the acting department at all (in fact, that's 2 more nominations than i would have given it) but greta was robbed in the best actor category. and frankly so were emerald fennell and celine song. it's rare that so many great movies are directed by women in one year but the academy doesn't seem to realise that they can nominate more than one woman for best director in one year.

I agree about the director nom, but most of the outrage I've seen revolves around "Ken" being nominated and not "Barbie" ... that's why I thought the quote was relevant. The Academy's issue with female directors is long standing.

i didn't watch Barbie so i don't know about Greta or Margot, but i totally agree about Celine Song. Past lives is a great movie, very moving.

I haven't watched it in years, so no loss for me. I just come here to check out the outfits!

I haven't watched it in years, so no loss for me. I just come here to check out the outfits! Same here. I enjoy the fashion snark and envy but don't really care who wins or loses (except for Brendan Fraser because Duh!). I can't remember the last time there was a new film release that actually got me excited and willing to cough up the cost of a kidney to go to the cinema to see it.

Unless someone gets slapped, I will remain uninterested in anything other than the fashions.

I don't think Gladstone is going to beat Stone. Both are 2023 Golden Globes winners. Last year the Actress in a Musical or Comedy winner of the Golden Globes (Yeoh) beat the drama winner. Stone and Gladstone are in those respective categories this year. Moreover, Stone is also a producer of her film.
That being said an actor-producer role didn't get Robbie a nomination. DiCaprio was also an actor-producer - and like Robbie, not a vanity title. The way I understand it, DiCaprio recruited Scorcese into the director role, just like Robbie did with Gerwig. I can kind of see why DiCaprio didn't get nominated - his character is kind of a knucklehead, who actually got dumber and MORE unsympathetic as the movie builds towards its climax - and people tend to hate that, LOL.
I love all the Oscar stuff. The fashion, the red carpet, the debates about snubs, the wildly uneven hosting. The unpredictable winners and outcomes - remember Green Book beating Blakk Klansman??? Remember Warren Beatty calling out the wrong winner and then the emergency announcement?
