i wouldn't criticise her for that either but you know the british press would go nuts if it did turn out to be true. the part that makes me doubt it is less the traveling and more the hotel part. if she was doing this and had to keep it under wraps it would make way more sense to rent a furnished luxury apartment or something, far more private than a hotel.

ETA: if I was going through an illness like cancer and I had the resources, I would absolutely make sure I was getting the world’s best doctors to treat me or at least advise on my treatment. It’s kind of crazy that doing that would be such a scandal in the UK that the palace actually publicly denied the rumour to the Houston Chronicle.

I don't for a second think she's been going to America. That just started from a post on reddit I think? There's been so much BS posted about what's going on with her, I think it's just someone wanting to start another rumour.

md anderson. great place for solid tumors. not sure if it is the 'best in the world'. it may be that they like a specific practioner there. depends on the cancer type.

Ken Pal have denied (not that that means anything).
Also, her chemo is "supposed" to be preventative.

She's been out of action an awfully long time for that treatment to only be "preventative".

I don't know what the average/normal time for it is but one of my mum's friends had preventative chemo for 6 months.

yeah you can have preventative chemo for varying durations. and depending on the treatment, it can be hard on the body. or maybe she just wants time off. hard to say.

Well, shes never had a "proper" job & had a reputation for being lazy in the RF.
But as Sarzy says, could be 6 months of treatment - not that you get that off if you work a "normal" jobs, tends to be 3 months.

i always thought the 'lazy' thing was laughable. kate at least seems to be raising her own children, and doesn't seem emotionally stunted, unlike liz and charles who shipped theirs off to boarding school and were never hands on, though charles was better about that than liz.
6 months off seems like the bare minimum for cancer treatment and it sucks that 'regular' jobs don't allow that.

My regular job allows whatever time off the doctor orders. Most people I know have short term disability through their employer that pays them for up to 6 months off. Then a long term disability policy that will pay indefinitely (at a lower rate).

I know too many people who missed a year of work for cancer.

Certainly a princess can take 6 months off.

Of course, it really doesn't help when you get articles with headlines like this by Daily Telegraph columnist Allison Pearson:

When lesser mortals would have stayed at home, Catherine proved that the show goes on.

The full Telegraph article is behind a paywall but there are some snippets available through other outlets such as The Wrap which used the following quotes in an article talking about an NHS doctor and several "lesser mortals" getting into online spats with Ms Pearson:

“Kate briefly patted her stomach, whether to smooth her dress after being seated on the journey from the Palace or a reflex to protect herself after recent surgery it was hard to tell,” Pearson wrote. “Illness has definitely taken its toll. More slender and with heavier make-up than usual, the 42-year-old Princess appeared brighter than she probably felt. How brave to face the gaze of the world when your body is in the business of betraying you.”



“God knows what it cost her to put on that impeccable, elegant display, to make the last thing she felt like doing the first thing to do, but I hope it was a good day for her because it certainly was for us,” she concluded in her piece. “When Catherine walked back onto the national stage, the clouds parted and all heaven broke loose. I hope she’s back at home now putting her feet up with a nice cup of tea. Thank you. Thank you.”

 Wales Online also doesn't seem to be too impressed by the original article.


Kate Middleton cancer message outcry as 'lesser mortals' comment sparks huge backlash

The Princess of Wales was praised by Allison Pearson for attending Trooping the Colour when 'lesser mortals would have stayed at home'. The comment has generated outrage

A newspaper columnist has been criticised heavily after praising the Princess of Wales for attending Trooping the Colour when 'lesser mortals would have stayed at home'. Allison Pearson made the remark in a Daily Telegraph column in which she said other people in her situation would have 'stayed home, tucked up in their jim-jams'.

Thousands of people hit back at her words - including several who have lost relatives to cancer. And a senior doctor also stepped in to condemn her comments.

Clive Peedell, a consultant clinical oncologist, said: "As a cancer specialist, I find this level of journalism absolutely appalling. It’s hard to know where to begin, when the lack of understanding of how cancer might affect people is this poor. I’m more than happy to speak to @allisonpearson to explain why this is so bad."

Dr Neena Jha agreed. Speaking on X, formerly Twitter, she said: “Lesser mortals would have stayed at home”?! What kind of creature would write such an insulting statement about cancer patients?!

"I’m a doctor who works with cancer patients - I see their bravery, strength, courage, resilience every day & have a huge amount of respect & admiration for them. Many continue working, looking after children, campaigning etc.

"I’ve seen so many cancer patients struggling behind doors yet put a smile on their face to protect loved ones/ keep going. Even if they can’t as their illness is too severe, every day getting up to fight their cancer with their horrendous symptoms deserves a bloody medal.

"So no, you don’t get to call them “lesser mortals”. You should be deeply ashamed of yourself."

Editor Emma Cate Stokes also blasted the column. Speaking on X, she said: "My dad had cancer and died. He had to stay at home as he couldn't physically walk across the room.

"He wasn't a lesser mortal. He was the strongest and best person I've ever known. I don't often swear here, but quite frankly you can F off."

Others on X were also appalled. Graham Smith said: "This is revolting and offensive to millions of people who have to live with cancer."

Simon Davis said: "Lesser mortals? What a shocking thing to write.

"There are people battling cancer every day who have to, you know actually work, instead of being wheeled out in a frock for column inches. This is a slap in the face for ‘lesser mortals’ all across the nation. Shame on you."

Minnie said: "My step-mother was incapable of eating & vomiting up her own bowl matter because of the tumour the size of a watermelon that was blocking her stomach & intestines. I realise now that she was a less because she had no stylist team make her up & wheel her out to a gold carriage!"

And Ruona J. Meyer, a two-time cancer survivor, said: "To any cancer patient who reads this: you are not less because all you could do today was have a shower, or wash your hair, even if your last treatment was one year ago. You are no less because you don’t have constant help. You are here today, and you deserve to be here."

Allison Pearson has talked absolute nonsense for a long time now! I feel like she says stuff just to get a reaction even if she doesn't believe it.
