I'm sorry about your BIL, Nicki - that is sheer hell. My uncle had that as well, and it just sounds excruciating.

Nah they do those for day surgery in the UK now. Could be gall bladder/hernia or a tummy tuck. Or a gastric band.... And wouldn't it be nicer to be at home. I had a tummy tuck with a DR repair, so the surgery was more invasive than a regular tummy tuck. In the US it’s usually an outpatient surgery. It certainly is not a two week hospital stay. I was in and out the same day. Two weeks is a really long time. I also don’t see any indication that she would need a tummy tuck. She wears a lot of tight fitting clothes and her stomach appears completely flat?? I wonder if it’s a bowel twisting issue? My brother in law has this issue and is routinely hospitalized for it for 2-3 weeks at a time. He is also very thin because the twisting means that he can’t eat solid foods. He’s had to get surgery a few times to untwist his bowels or to cut pieces out that can’t be untangled. Yeah it could be a bowel issue. That's horrible what your BIL has to deal with.

I was home 1.5 days post open surgery. But again, could be pretty different in the UK and/or self paying perhaps.

I work for an insurance company, approving hospital stays. It has to be something related to her bowels/intestines for that long of a length of stay. I know that they said it wasn't cancer related, but it feels cancer related. Even a small bowel obstruction is 5-7 days. Maybe a colostomy placement temporarily and they hope to have the bag removed by Easter?
Purely speculation, of course.

^^ I posted a link to an evaluation of what surgery in the UK merits a 10-14 day stay in hospital. Open surgery (not keyhole) for various hernias were top of the list. It's bad enough going through the stomachs wall without trying to get it all to mend back together.
However ...
Needless to say anyone hoping for a honor at some point in the future is baying for blood that he might *dare* to suggest that she is getting different treatment.
Also this keeping information private has caused a firestorm of speculation and rumour. She's not been out of the headlines since, even a glimpse of Billy driving his car to visit her is HEADLINE NEWS!!!!

That doctor was a fool if he said she'd be out of an NHS hospital in one day. He didn't even know what she was having done!

He can’t eat or use the bathroom and vomits everything they try to feed him up. At this point he’s on a permanent baby food/liquid diet. A few times they didn’t think he would even survive. Sometimes the twisting is so complicated that it’s a long and major surgery to get them untwisted. My BIL has lost most of his bowels now and they aren’t sure they can cut anymore if it happens again. So I guess there are degrees to it. It sounds absolutely terrifying and I guess is extremely painful too. I feel really bad for anyone who is going through it. I hope it’s not what she has.

More bad health news for the Royals.. Sarah Ferguson has been diagnosed with skin cancer just months after being treated for breast cancer, it is reported. The Duchess of York has had a mole removed from her body which tests have since found to be a malignant melanoma which is the most serious type of skin cancer. It comes after the 64-year-old underwent a breast operation for cancer last year, with insiders saying it has 'not been an easy time' for her. The mother-of-two is reported to have has a number of moles removed while undergoing breast reconstruction surgery last year, one of which was found to be malignant. The Duchess, who is the ex-wife of Prince Andrew, was described as being in 'good spirits' after the 'distressing' news, which was broken to her just days after Christmas. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12989295/Sarah-Ferguson-diagnosed-skin-cancer-just-months-Duchess-York-treated-breast-cancer.html

Catherine, Princess of Wales, has left hospital almost two weeks after having abdominal surgery. A statement from Kensington Palace said the princess has now returned to her home in Windsor and that she is "making good progress". She was driven away from the London Clinic private hospital without any public appearance. The exact nature of the surgery has not been revealed, but the princess will need months of recuperation. The princess had spent 13 nights in hospital since her operation and is not expected to return to official duties until after Easter. Kensington Palace said the Prince and Princess of Wales wanted to send a "huge thank you" to the medical team at the central London hospital and for the "well wishes they have received from around the world". The palace statement said the princess would "continue her recovery" from home. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-68127598
