I think I mentioned this in another thread. True story based on the assassination of a bunch of Osage Native American leaders in order to get control of oil-rich land. Directed by Martin Scorsese and starring DiCaprio, Deniro, Lily Gladstone, Brendan Fraser, and Jesse Plemons, among others. Trailer looks amazing -- I love how they use the music in the background. I'll see it when it in the theater when it comes out in October.

Oh my. All I see and hear is famous white actors and cliches. I looked it up, the movie gets good reviews, so maybe the trailer is just not doing it justice.

The principal female lead (Lily Gladstone) is a Blackfoot Indian. Many Native Americans are in the cast. But because of the story it depicts, most of the leads are absolutely going to be white because it was a real-life series of targeted assassinations of Osage Nation Indians by white men. The story line has to do with who was committing the murders, who was investigating it, and who eventually prosecuted it.

I've heard the book is fantastic so I've added it to my reading list. As far as the film goes, I'll watch anything DiCaprio is in at least once.

Son Tulip and I went to see Killers yesterday. It was very good. Reminded me of The Irishman in its pacing -- very leisurely. The only criticism I have is that I didn't have a good sense of the time frame. I think that would have helped me.
Once again, I'm disgusted to learn yet another example of white Americans taking advantage of Native Americans. Despicable.

If you're into podcasts, there's a great one by In Trust that deals with the mineral rights and what happened over generations. And what a surprise, the Drummond family (The Pioneer Woman) are up to their eyeballs in shady shit.

So not shocked to hear Ree's Marlboro Man is a shady dude.

Ree's smile makes me want to run away, it's the fake, a little too wide smile of a serial killer to me. I must admit that I kinda like her, though.

It’s more the older generations of Drummonds that did the dirty work with the current generation reaping the benefits.
I had started reading her blog years ago, long before the tv shows, etc. I find watching her grating but still enjoy her writing.

I love Ree, but it's not surprising to hear that the Drummonds have a history in this. Last I knew they were the second largest landowners in Oklahoma, first being various government agencies - obviously they acquired the land from somewhere.
I'm definitely checking that podcast out, thanks for the rec!
