In honor of it being Officially Cold in Miami (46F early this a.m.!!! Happy dance!), I am making this awesome looking mushroom and wild rice soup I found a recipe for. I'm getting the ingredients in a bit, and making it tonight. *excited*

bee, that soup looks amazing.
i just had leftover rice with pretty much every leftover i had - a "fridge safari" like funkychicken calls them... what's left of a chicken i roasted, carrots, celery, broccoli, cabbage, etc.

Homemade chicken soup, with chicken breast, and fresh green beans, carrots, cilantro, and spinach. And canned chick peas!

I just ate a boars head turkey, ham and pepperjack cheese on rye toast. Tonight we’re having baked chicken thighs and scalloped potatoes.

Dinner was penne arrabbiata. Last night I made a batch of banana butterscotch muffins and I will probably have one or three later with a cup of tea.

My mom leaves tomorrow so we went all out tonight. I made pasta with fancy mushrooms and fresh tagliatelle and pecorino Romano, a big salad and I opened the bottle of radikon (Italian amber wine) that I brought back from my trip to Switzerland this fall. And we even managed to find room for dessert - passion fruit sorbet and super dark chocolate ice cream.

Mushroom tagliatelle sounds so good. I love mushrooms so much, I nearly doubled the amount the soup recipe called for. My soup came out pretty good, but I (and the recipe) wildly underestimated how long it would take to cook wild rice to tenderness. And mine was not nearly as creamy as the pictures, though it was still rich because of the full fat coconut milk. I did it stovetop, but think it would definitely do better in an instapot.

i use the amount of mushrooms a recipe would use for 4, but i halve the pasta. recipes never have enough mushrooms.

Spicy Cajun sloppy lentils over baked potatoes. I have some leftovers that most likely will be incorporated into a soup this weekend.

i love nerds. actually i don't know if i actually like them or just the fact that i'm instantly transported to childhood the minute i eat them. same with ketchup chips (canadians know what i'm talking about).
i'm supposed to be detoxing from the food (and salt! man is food salty in NOLA!) and booze orgy of the weekend but instead i defrosted a tamale.

I've been wanting to go for years!! It's an amazing place if you ignore Bourbon street and the super touristy crap, which isn't hard because it's all concentrated in a little part of the french quarter. i have friends who live there and who recommended places to eat, all over the city too so we got to see a lot of different neighbourhoods. the food is amazing but i have to say i like the sort of more modern takes on classic creole cuisine better than the super classic dishes which were great but maybe just not really my style (i'm not crazy about mixing seafood with sausage, for example). the charbroiled oysters are amazing. and there is also really excellent vietnamese cuisine all over the city. but yeah, the salt content is insane. there was one pair of pants i was only able to wear the first day, by day 2 i was way too bloated to wear it comfortably.
