Johnny Depp Fractures His Ankle and Cancels Performances: 'What a Drag!'

Johnny Depp says a hairline break in his ankle has developed into a more serious fracture, causing him to reschedule performances with the Hollywood Vampires

Johnny Depp has an injury that will keep him from touring with his band for awhile.

The actor posted to Instagram the news of his fracture, writing:

"My dear friends, I am sorry to say that I have fractured my ankle, which is a drag!!! It began as a hairline break but somewhere between Cannes and the Royal Albert Hall it got worse rather than better."

"Several medical professionals have strongly suggested I avoid any and all activity for the moment and so am sadly unable to travel at this time," he wrote.

"The guys and I are very sorry to miss you in New Hampshire, Boston and New York," he said of his band, the Hollywood Vampires.

Depp, 59, included in his post the rescheduled dates on July 28, 29 and 30.

He promised fans "an amazing show" and his "sincerest apologies."

Earlier in May, the actor's French-language film Jeanne du Barry opened the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, where Depp signed autographs, posed for selfies with fans, and spoke about his movie "comeback" at a press conference afterward, where he was asked whether he feels boycotted by Hollywood after his highly publicized legal battles.

"Do I feel boycotted now? No, not at all," he said. "But I don't feel boycotted by Hollywood because I don't think about it. I don't think about Hollywood. I don't have much further need for Hollywood myself."

He later added, "I keep wondering about the word comeback because I didn't go anywhere. As a matter of fact, I live about 45 minutes away. So yeah, maybe people stopped calling out of whatever their fear was at the time. But no, I didn't go nowhere. I've been sitting around."

It was a hairline fracture that got worse, how does that happen unless you totally ignore it? Or intentionally let it get worse so you can get some good painkillers?

Oh well, at least he didn't cut off any toes like with his hand injury.

I walked around back in HS with an ankle hairline fracture for about 4 months before I felt any discomfort or showed symptoms. Most likely happened when I slid into second during softball season.

Whether he actually injured himself or not. He was definitely drunk. That's the default. Forever.

At least until there's a drastic change in how he looks and behaves.

If it's not alcohol it's pills. But I think if nothing else alcohol is his standby/fallback.

Believe it or not, these days not many pills are going to be had with a fractured ankle. Nowhere near enough to sate an addict like JD.  Doctors have to be way more accountable now.

But I'm sure he's got a less than legal hook up if he wants or needs a bottle of pills a day. And the "ankle fracture" would give him a legit appearing reason to have pills on him if he got into some fuckery and the cops got involved.

Unfortunately I can answer this one!! I had a fracture in my foot that the orthopedist just gave me a short cast and I couldn't put any weight on it to see if we could heal it without surgery.  A few weeks later, x ray showed the break actually separated MORE so then had the surgery. So now I have some major hardware in there.  DISCLAIMER...... I am not nearly as messy as  depp most of the time, so his may have been neglect or not following instructions. DISCLAIMER 2.....mine was a bit more than hairline.

Junkie Derp old drunk abuser. I broke my ankle last year and the torturous pricks weren't going to give me a damn thing, but reluctantly prescribed me 12 whole norco 5s. Pieces of shit. But in his case yes any excuse to get back on the drugs. FYI I have been prescribed pain pills less than ten times total for one off procedures like root canal and a hysterectomy over my half decade of life, and I am sick of Junkie ass pillheads like Derp ruining it for normal people, now we all get treated like junkies.

Unfortunately, the doctors are all monitored and if they're prescribing too much they are red flagged, so yeah they're stingy. I was pretty lucky when I had diverticulitis and abdominal surgery, I was able to get pain meds from both my PCP and surgeon and I guarded them with my life because for the one time in my life, I really needed them. But if you're getting an out patient minor surgery, you're lucky to get a 3 day supply.

i know lots of people with hairline fractures that get worse. usually because they don't give it enough time to heal and keep working out and/or running. it happens.
either way, i hope he's in pain lol

When I was younger, you would hear a lot about runners whose shin splints (pain in the muscles in front of the lower leg) had morphed into stress fractures. Which can get worse. I refuse to believe that Depp was doing exercise of any kind, though.
