Songs about people falling out of love, songs about betrayal. Songs about not getting over it. Country songs where your partner leaves you and takes the dog and your moonshine still, too.
I love this one. "Someone that I Used to Love" by Natalie Cole. Plaintive and wistful. A crescendo building throughout the songs, and then the violins come in.

Cowboy Junkies - Sun Comes up, it's Tuesday Morning
And anyways I'd rather listen to coltrane
Than go through all that shit again

Tom Waits - Hope I don't fall in love with you. Perfect song. Sounds like it should have been on the latest Star is Born soundtrack.

The Anti-love song. Literally.

I remember loving this song even before I had my first girlfriend. As a guy, it really seemed like a precautionary tale - kind of like being blindsided and not noticing the signs, and maybe taking someone for granted before that.

Too Late Baby by Carole King.
There’ll be good times again for me and you But we just can’t stay together, don’t you feel it, too? Still I’m glad for what we had and how I once loved you But it’s too late, baby, now it’s too late Though we really did try to make it Something inside has died and I can’t hide it and I just can’t fake it
I love Carole King.

Passive agressive ex-boyfriend tries something and get's so owned that he doesn't recover for 40 years and counting.

Chris Stapleton "Nobody to Blame" the funniest lyric to me is when he says "put sugar in my John Deere, I can't even mow my lawn"
She took down the photograph Of our wedding day Ripped it down the middle And threw my half away And I got nobody to blame but me I got nobody to blame but me
She broke all my fishing rods Put my guns in hock Threw my clothes out in the yard And changed out all the locks And I got nobody to blame but me I got nobody to blame but me
I know right where I went wrong I know just what got her gone Turned my life into this country song And I got nobody to blame but me I got nobody to blame but me
She fired up my old hot rod Ran it in the pond Put sugar in my John Deere I can't even mow my lawn And I got nobody to blame but me I got nobody to blame but me
She built her a bonfire With my old six string Took all my good whiskey And poured it down the drain And I got nobody to blame but me I got nobody to blame but me
I know right where I went wrong I know just what got her gone Turned my life into this country song And I got nobody to blame but me I got nobody to blame but me Nobody to blame but me I got nobody to blame but me
