‘Fearful’ Shannen Doherty reveals her cancer has spread to her brain The 52-year-old actor, who announced in 2020 that she has stage four breast cancer, took to Instagram on Tuesday to share a video of herself undergoing brain radiation therapy. During the treatment, which kills cancer cells in the brain, Doherty wore a thermoplastic mask that covered her face and neck. In the caption, Doherty revealed that her cancer had spread, before describing the radition therapy that she first received earlier this year. “On January 5th, my CT scan showed Mets in my brain. Yesterday’s video was showing the process of getting fitted for the mask which you wear during radiation to your brain,” she wrote, referencing an earlier clip she shared about the brain radiation treatment. “January 12, the first round of radiation took place. My fear is obvious.” Throughout the video, Doherty was lying on a table with her mask on, while lasers and red lights from a machine were aimed towards her face. Radiation therapy uses strong beams of energy to kill brain cancer cells, according to John Hopkins Medicine. Along with surgery and chemotherapy, radiation therapy is used to treat brain tumours and to help control the growth of them. In the caption of her post, the Charmed star acknowledged how nervous she felt during the cancer treatment, before expressing her gratitude for her doctors. “I am extremely claustrophobic and there was a lot going on in my life,” she continued in the caption. ”I am fortunate as I have great doctors like Dr Amin Mirahdi and the amazing techs at [Cedars-Sinai].” Still, she noted that her fears are a big part of her life throughout her cancer battle. “But that fear…. The turmoil….. the timing of it all…. This is what cancer can look like,” she concluded. Many famous faces went to the comments of Doherty’s post to send her messages of support. “This is a lot. This is a lot to take on, still again,” Selma Blair wrote. “And I am wishing for all the wise peace you have learned to find you in the terror moments. To know we are holding you. Love. All love.” “Rooting for you, my irreplaceable friend. You have been such a fearless fighter your whole life, so it’s understandable to be a little scared from time to time,” filmmaker Kevin Smith wrote. “But when those moments pass, let that indomitable Doherty spirit take over anew. I love you so much, my Mallrat.” Sarah Michelle Gellar added: “You are a warrior.” The Beverly Hills 90210 star first revealed that she had stage four breast cancer in February 2020 during an appearance on Good Morning America. “My cancer came back and...that’s why I’m here,” she said on the show, as she noted that she kept her stage four diagnosis private for a year. “I don’t think that I’ve processed it. It’s a bitter pill to swallow in a lot of ways.” Doherty was originally diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and announced that the illness was in remission in April 2017. In October 2021, she posted candid pictures of her battle with breast cancer, to show fans what the disease really looks like. In one picture, Doherty, who had lost her hair, had a blood-soaked tissue in one nostril while lying in her bed. “For breast cancer awareness month, I’d like to share more of my own personal journey from my first diagnosis to my second,” she wrote in the caption at the time. “Is it all pretty? NO but it’s truthful and my hope in sharing is that we all become more educated, more familiar with what cancer looks like. I hope I encourage people to get mammograms, to get regular checkups, to cut thru the fear and face whatever might be in front of you.” She also reflected on her history with breast cancer and how she was first diagnosed in 2015. From there, she said that she had a mastectomy and did chemo and radiation. She also confessed that throughout her chemo, she struggled with “many nose bleeds”. As noted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), nose bleeds can be a common side effect of different cancer treatments, including chemotherapy and radiation. Source: The Independent (UK)

Not to be bleak, but it's pretty impressive that she's gone since January with growths on her brain. She certainly is a fighter.

Cancer-stricken Shannen Doherty selling possessions as she prepares to die: ‘Just in case’
By Samantha Ibrahim Published April 2, 2024, 10:12 a.m. ET Shannen Doherty is setting herself free from her material possessions as she battles breast cancer. The “Beverly Hills, 90210” alum — whose cancer, first diagnosed in 2015, is now Stage 4 — revealed on her podcast, “Let’s Be Clear With Shannen Doherty,” recently that she’s getting rid of her belonging so her mother doesn’t have to deal with them after the actress’ death. Doherty announced she had Stage 4 breast cancer in 2020. Jason LaVeris/FilmMagic “The cancer, for me, has really made me take stock of my life and shift my priorities, and my priority at the moment is my mom,” Doherty, 52, said. “I don’t want her to have a bunch of stuff to deal with,” the “Charmed” alum continued. “I don’t want her to have four storage units filled with furniture because I have a furniture obsession.” She said jokingly that it was thanks to her passion for home furnishings that she’s “accumulated so much crap” over the years. And, at the moment, most of the items are simply collecting dust in a storage unit. “I’m not enjoying it and others aren’t enjoying it, and do I really need any of it? Do I need to have three dining room tables?” she noted. “The answer is no, none of us really need all the stuff that we have, and we could all do with a little bit of downsizing and not be a hoarder, which I was becoming with all my furniture.” Doherty initially felt like she was “throwing in the towel” by selling her belongings, but now wants to use the money to enjoy the time she has left with her loved ones. “It feels like you’re giving up on something that was very special and important to you,” she said. “But you know that it’s the right thing to do and that it’s going to give you a sense of peace and a sense of calm because you’re helping the people that you leave behind just have a cleaner, easier transition.” After Doherty announced her cancer diagnosis in 2015, the disease went into remission two years later. She revealed in 2020 that her cancer had returned, and in late 2023 said that the illness had spread to her bones. On a December episode of her radio show, Doherty tearfully admitted that after dropping down to 92 pounds from chemotherapy, she was fairly certain it was all over. “When I dropped down to 92 pounds from chemo and was incredibly dehydrated, I had to still get out of bed,” she said at the time. “My mom [was] literally trying to pick me up out of bed and get me to the doctor … At that point in time, I thought that I wouldn’t survive it.” nypost.com/2024/04/02/entertainment/cancer-stricken-shannen-doherty-prepares-for-death-by-selling-items/

Honestly, I think if you are in a situation like this where you are well aware that your time left is limited, this is the right thing to do. Everyone dies, it's not some big shock so when we all are at a point where other people are dependent on us, or are sharing in the responsibility of life with us we should take the time to make sure our final wishes are clear and things are put into place to take care of everything, including the belongings we leave behind. Dealing with the death of a loved one is hard enough, to have to figure everything out afterwards is something we shouldn't leave for others to deal with.
I hope she is able to be as happy as she can be in her final time.

I think not leaving behind a mess is admirable. I took me and R three years, THREE YEARS, to go thru his mother's stuff to sell, give away or junk. By the end, we were so angry.

We also, recently, began de-cluttering and getting our affairs in order. We decided it might be wise to start doing that, since I recently turned 60 and in the first three months of this year, 4 people we knew passed away aged 50, 57, 61 and 62. Kind of scary when you suddenly realize you're in "that" age bracket. You always think it's going to be someone else, at a safe distance from you......

I bought The Gentle Art of Swedish Deathcleaning on my Kindle so it wouldn’t be a book cluttering up the house. 😆
Sorry to hear this latest news.

Very depressing, and very motivating.

Shannen Doherty claims ex Kurt Iswarienko is purposely delaying divorce: He ‘hopes that I die before’ having to pay By Social Links for Vanessa Serna Published June 20, 2024, 6:09 p.m. ET
Shannen Doherty accused her estranged husband, Kurt Iswarienko, of intentionally delaying their divorce to avoid paying spousal support.
Per documents obtained by People, the “Beverly Hills, 90210” star alleged she still hasn’t been provided financial information about her ex’s “archive” of his photography.
The actress, who is currently battling stage 4 cancer, claimed the photographer is purposefully waiting until her condition worsens.
“It is simply not right that Kurt be permitted to prolong our divorce in hopes that I die before he is required to pay me while he continues to live his life and shirk his responsibilities to his dying wife of more than 11 years,” Doherty, 53, wrote in the filing.
A lawyer for Iswarienko, 49, debunked the claims, alleging he wanted to finalize the divorce in September 2023 when he offered the “Charmed” alum a settlement deal, which she denied.
“Kurt is not ‘simply wait[ing] for Shannen to die,” Katherine Heersema wrote, per the docs. “He wants the best for Shannen and he wants both of them to be able to put this case behind them and move forward.”
According to the filing, Doherty denied Iswarienko’s settlement agreement because he “skirted around the issues of his original works created during [their] marriage” and how much he earned.
The “Heathers” star — who filed for divorce in April 2023 after 11 years of marriage — requested Iswarienko cough up $15,343 in monthly spousal support and an additional $9,100 to cover the cost of her lawyers.
She also asked for $11,800 for additional fees she acquired “in efforts to obtain Kurt’s complete responses” for their legal proceedings.
Per the documents, Doherty expects her earnings to “drastically” lessen this year as she’s been unable to work due to her “recurrent health issues.”
“Today, virtually all of the income I earn is residual income from work that I performed prior to marriage,” she stated.
“I recently learned that ‘Charmed’ will no longer be streaming on any major streaming platform after June 30, 2024. As a result, my future residual income will dramatically decrease,” she continued, referring to her time on the WB show from 1998 to 2001.
As she’s out of work, the “Let’s Be Clear” podcast host also expects her medical bills to “dramatically increase” when her SAG health insurance is no longer valid.
She cited the $21,640 medical bill she received in 2023, claiming Iswarienko should have no issue helping pay it because he regularly spends money on ritzy items and experiences.
Doherty was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and went into remission two years later.
In 2020, she revealed the cancer came back and had spread to her brain while later metastasizing into her bones.
Amid her condition, Doherty admitted she has been slowly preparing for death by cleaning out her belongings to provide an “easier transition” for her mother, Rosa.
She’s even given up her dream to live in Tennessee with several horses.

I've got to stop delaying on my mammogram. I hadn’t had one in literally years and finally went in a few months ago, scared shitless. Thankfully all is normal, but I am going to make sure I get it done annually. Now about that pap smear… 🙄
