Tom Hanks’ son Chet: I didn’t have a ‘strong male role model’ growing upTom Hanks’ son Chet Hanks claimed Tuesday that despite growing up with an Oscar-winning dad, he had no one to turn to as a celebrity kid. “I didn’t have a strong male role model to tell me … ‘Bro, f–k these people. They are just jealous of you,'” Chet, 31, said in a video on his YouTube channel of the disrespect he endured from his peers for his wealth, fame and being perceived as “arrogant, entitled and spoiled.” “‘You have all these things that they want, so they are trying to f–king throw their shade at you so you can feel s–tty about yourself because they are jealous.’ I needed to hear that,” he continued. “I didn’t have anyone to tell me that. This is me now telling the younger version of myself what I needed to hear then.” The “White Boy Summer” rapper said people used to “make up their minds” about him before even getting to know him. “It was extremely hard to break down their walls,” he shared. “So, I encountered a lot of disdain, a lot of animosity and negativity because everybody was just prepared to hate my guts Chet, who regularly posts photos of himself flexing his muscles on Instagram, added that due to his “hard exterior” and ability to intimidate, many of his haters never had the nerve to confront him face-to-face. “People kinda did f–k with me a lot growing up. It was never to my face,” he recalled. “It was always behind my back in the forms of gossip and s–t-talking.” That said, Chet clarified he understands growing up with privilege can result in resentment from those who are not as fortunate. “There’s a lot of advantages, but sometimes it can be pretty weird. I got to do a lot of cool s–t that a lot of people don’t get the opportunity to do,” he acknowledged. “I got to travel the world, stay in nice hotels, fly on private planes, and I’m very blessed for that. I wouldn’t change my situation. My experience was even more complicated because, on top of fame already being toxic, I wasn’t even famous,” he added. “I was just the son of somebody famous, so I hadn’t even done anything to deserve any sort of recognition, and that created a lot of contempt.” Tom, 65, shares sons Chet and son Truman, 26, with his wife, Rita Wilson. He is also dad to son Colin, 44, and daughter Elizabeth, 39, with his first wife, the late Samantha Lewes. pagesix.com/2022/02/16/tom-hanks-son-chet-i-didnt-have-a-strong-male-role-model/

Maybe that was a strong vibe he was giving off, and jealousy had nothing to do with it?

Or maybe, you know, you were indeed just "arrogant, entitled and spoiled". And also batshit crazy.
There's that.

What a turd. He better watch out, or his parents are going to derail the gravy train.

Tom and Rita must be so embarrassed.

Tom and Rita must be so embarrassed. As a mother with a grown son who behaves this way (he's same age and is bipolar) trust me, I can assure you they are. It's soul shredding. Embarrassing. All the adjectives. My son rants and raves online, espousing trump-ish conspiracies and anti-vaxxer nonsense. And all of his problems are me and his dad's fault. Mostly me, though. Sound familiar? He IS Chet Hanks, minus the fact that me and his father are not Tom and Rita It's interesting because I used to be one of those people who would say "WTF is wrong with their parents? Why don't they do something?" Charlie Sheen is a perfect example. (not saying you're doing that, mind you - just seen it a lot) And now here I am - and boy has karma bitten me on the ass in this regard.

I'm so sorry, Firebrat. That must be incredibly painful. Does it make a difference if he is on meds or not?
Fwiw, the older I get the more certain I am that most of what makes us who we are is stamped on our DNA. As parents, we do our best but every child is different. My sister will always feel scarred by things my father said/did to encourage or motivate her. I found the same speeches inspiring.
I hope things improve over time.

Thank you! He's unmedicated and thinks there's nothing wrong with him, sadly. This tends to be a fairly common theme with most of them, which is upsetting and frustrating. The only bright-spot here is that he's recently gotten in some trouble with the law for the first time in his life. Sounds nuts for this to be a bright spot, but he's been mandated to mental health appointments. I've seen some small changes thus far, so I'm cautiously optimistic. Very cautiously.

If he had a good therapist maybe they would have clued him in to entertaining the possibility that coming across as "arrogant, entitled and spoiled" might be rooted in BEHAVIORS of his as opposed to merely being an unfair/incorrect assessment from jealous assholes.
In a nice, therapeutic, non-insulting way of course.
But I get the feeling a therapist who told him things he didn't want to hear (even if he needed to hear them) wouldn't be one he'd return to. Why? Because, see previous assessment via aforementioned "jealous assholes".
Poor Tom and Rita.

I'm sorry, firebrat. I'm sure it's incredibly frustrating and hurtful.
Funny we never hear a thing about their other son, Truman. He seems to manage to live a life out of the spotlight and not slam his parents on social media. Then of course, there's Colin, from Tom's first marriage, who has carved out a nice acting career for himself. I don't remember what the daughter does but IIRC, she's also a responsible adult.
And then...there's Chet. But it's all Tom and Rita's fault.

I'm not sure it's all his fault. Didn't he once sneak into the back seat of Tom's car to follow him to work? And then accidentally saw him and Daniel Craig kill some guy???

I would have thought as a strong male influence Tom Hanks is hard working, honest, reliable, friendly, family first...etc
Chet really does come across as arrogant and ignorant.

From last year:
Tom Hanks’ three other kids are less embarrassing than his son Chet By Nicki Gostin
March 31, 2021
Between “White Boy Summer” and a bloody fight with an ex-girlfriend, we’re betting Chet Hanks isn’t occupying the “favorite son and/or daughter” slot with his parents, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson.
But hey, at least the Oscar winner and his wife can rest easy knowing that their other offspring are positively shining by comparison.
Sully” star Hanks married actress Samantha Lewes in 1978, and the couple sired two children together — Colin, 43, and Elizabeth, 38 — before divorcing in 1987. A source told The Post in 2001 that they “had their ups and downs like any divorced couple” but remained friends until Lewes, sadly, died of bone cancer in 2002 at the age of 49.
Hanks co-starred with Wilson in the 1985 comedy “Volunteers” and the pair got hitched two years later. They went on to have two sons, Chester aka Chet, 30, and Truman, 25.
Colin Hanks FilmMagic Colin, who bears an uncanny resemblance to his old man, has forged a successful career in both movies and television. He has worked steadily in shows like “Roswell,” “Mad Men” and “Life in Pieces,” and picked up an Emmy nomination for his turn as Gus Grimly in “Fargo.”
He’s also appeared in the “Jumanji” movies and directed the documentary “All Things Must Pass: The Rise and Fall of Tower Records,” which raised some funds through a Kickstarter campaign. The “Talking Tom and Friends” star married publicist Samantha Bryant in 2010, and they have two daughters, Olivia and Charlotte.
Elizabeth Hanks Getty Images As a child, Elizabeth briefly appeared in her dad’s movies “Forrest Gump” and “That Thing You Do!” but pivoted to the written word and graduated from Vassar with a degree in English language and literature. Elizabeth, who goes under the name E.A. Hanks, was an associate news editor at the Huffington Post and is currently at work on her first novel for children, whimsically titled “Piper Peregrine Vs. The Consortium For Better Thinking.”
When her dad received the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award at last year’s Golden Globes, Elizabeth shared a pic of the Hanks clan, writing alongside it, “Team Hanks is proud. And I am proud and more than that lucky, to have a father who has taught me to always tell the truth, to move forward, that the hang is the best part of circus life and that to make art is a gift from the gods.”
Truman Hanks WireImage Truman, 25, is also in the film industry — albeit behind the cameras. The Stanford grad was a trainee in the camera department on “Babylon Berlin” and has worked in the camera department on “Black Widow” and the upcoming “West Side Story.”
And then there is chet….
Chet, who has rapped under the name of Chet Haze, has had a bumpier road than his siblings. He’s been open about his struggle with drugs, which included his time as a wanted man by British police after allegedly trashing a hotel, as well as a stint in rehab. He did, however, clean up to welcome his daughter Michaiah in April 2016.
Last year, he confounded the internet with a video of himself at the Golden Globes speaking patois. Earlier this week, he once again became an online laughingstock for his proclamation that “White Boy Summer” will soon be approaching.
“I just got this feeling man, that this summer is — it’s about to be a white boy summer,” he deadpanned for his Instagram followers. “Take it how you want.”
“I’m not talking about Trump, NASCAR-type white,” he continued. “I’m talking about, you know, me, [R&B artist] Jon B, [rapper] Jack Harlow-type white boy summer. Let me know if you guys can vibe with that and get ready, ‘cuz I am.”
