None of them are going to speak out against him. He's got a chokehold on the entire party. That's because they made the mistake of thinking his pig-ignorance was the same as total stupidity. Trump is a born and bred grifter and grifters are experts at sniffing out and digging up anything that can be used for leverage in their favour and he'll have spent his entire term in office doing just that. I'll bet that there's been a lot of very hush hush conversations along the lines of "President Trump thanks you for your loyalty and continued support in this matter. Oh, and by the way, how is your delightful young friend over at [address]? Your investments in [shifty shit] doing well? And that son/daughter of yours? Are they still enjoying their adventures with, ah-ha, South American exports?" They all know that if they don't fight to keep his fat arse out of the crap that he'll let loose everything that he's got on each and every one of them out of pure spite.

I could certainly see what Kitty describes above but I think it's even worse. Trump started some kind of movement. He resonated with a huge portion of the American public. That's power in DC. To oppose him is to lose power. THAT is the most important thing to our political leaders. Winning the power. They aren't going to chance it by opposing Trump.
It would be NO DIFFERENT if a lunatic Dem was in office. The Dem party would support him/her as long as it meant winning votes.
There is almost no difference between the two parties in this regard. Power and money is the aim. To hell with actually running the country in a competent way that helps ordinary Americans.

To hell with actually running the country in a competent way that helps ordinary Americans. that's actually not true. democratic voters are less party faithful to the party than republican voters and the democratic party is less likely to support its own too. just look at al franken. i think he was highly electable, probably the most charismatic politician the party has had for a long time. he totally could have weathered the storm if the party had stood by him but they threw him under the bus. republicans are way more likely to toe the line, both at electorate and party levels.

Yeah, the thing with Trump is a total cult of personality. I haven't seen anything like it in my lifetime. Literally any Republican who disagrees with him is a "RINO" - essentially creating the situation where whatever Trump says or does is the "official Republican" position. It's almost like the Pope speaking "ex cathedra" or something.
There is no similar idolization of Biden. His son is currently under investigation. So, is Biden for that matter (classified documents found at his house). Biden isn't referring to it as a witch hunt every day or trying to fire the Attorney General. And neither are his allies in Congress.
Criticism of Trump reminds me of that episode of "Twilight Zone" where a bunch of adults live in abject terror of a young, malevolent child who has the ability to "send them to the cornfield". They are basically telling him whatever he wants to hear and falling all over themselves to do it.

The thing with Al Franken still pisses me off. That's when the Dems were on their "when they go low we go high" kick. Yeah, that works.

I had a few glasses of wine last night in celebration!
I hope this is just the beginning and more indictments are to follow. I didn't think one would even happen... now I've got hope we'll see more. Just bury the bastard.

Well, I think now that NY has broken the taboo, all the other indictments will start coming hot and heavy.

Well, I think now that NY has broken the taboo, all the other indictments will start coming hot and heavy. Pretty likely, and I would have thought Georgia would come next. But his lawyers went to a judge this week and asked for some kind of dismissal based on some harebrained thing that has no merit. And the judge asked for the prosecutor (Willis, I think?) to respond. So, that might slow things down.
