I can totally see Sputnik loving National/DCA - I've only been there a couple times recently since it's been remodeled, and both times it was like a bewildering red-eye experience. But I remember it having a retro architectural vibe to it.
Dulles has a really straightforward layout, even if you have to take those weird trams back and forth to the arrival and departure gates.
BWI is the busiest of all three, but it's kind of like an accidental major airport. It used to be this sleepy little airport called "Friendship" and was kind of in the middle of nowhere south of Baltimore. But it's also minutes from Ft. Meade and NSA (National Security Agency) -- both of which are HUGE - so a lot of those people would have a preference for that airport.
