^^^ I think a big reason it's still so popular isn't because we are re-watching, it's because there's a brand new audience of people in their 20s who love it. Netflix supposedly paid $100 million for the rights. They expired and now it's on HBO Max.

The only reason I ever saw any episodes of Friends was if I was sprawled out on the couch and couldn't be bothered to get up to change the channel. If we'd had a remote control back then I probably wouldn't have seen any.

I’ve never watched a full episode of that show.

I used to watch Friends but it didn't age well, IMO. Honestly, whatever positive feelings I had toward Matthew Perry (hey man, hope you get sober and people buy your book) are pretty well gone. Talking smack about Keanu is exactly the difference between Matthew Perry and Keanu Reeves. I don't see Keanu doing something like that.

Which is what I don't get, all of my students who were like 15, 16 were watching the show, and a lot of the jokes have aged so poorly I don't get why they like it. Even watching it in my teens, the whole "Monica was fat. That's the joke, she was fat. Like reaaaally fat" made me uncomfortable as fuck, at the time we didn't speak about abusive behaviours and Ross creeped the fuck out of me, I thought Joey was annoying as hell and Rachel as well, the only one I liked was Chandler and I couldn't quite understand why that series was a thing. I understand even less now XD

I thought I would hate Friends when it first came on. Then I saw a few episodes and kept watching. With reruns, there's a lot I won't rewatch. So agree about fat Monica and the girls carrying the show. There are a few episodes that will make me LOL to this day -- and they are girl-centric with mostly Rachel and Phoebe. One is skewering Pottery Barn and the other is when they were trying to catch Monica and Chandler so Phoebe tries to seduce him.
If you catch a rerun, you can tell whether Chandler is on drugs on not by his size. It's a little startling how he would be a little fuller at the end of one season and then at the beginning of the next be much thinner (presumably after a hiatus drug binge).

I've never watched an episode of Friends, just seen small glimpses while flicking through the channels, and that was annoying as f***! But after what the biatch said about King Keanu, he can go f*** himself with an ice-pick! He can re-explode his bowel!

I watched just a couple of episodes. I think Bruce Willis was in them. I found all 6 main characters unlikable and the humour seemed forced. I never understood why it was so popular.

I understand even less now XD Ross was my least favorite and I never did understand his appeal. During the Perry interview, it was mentioned that Schwimmer was the first season breakout star on Friends, and showed some magazine covers. I was like, what?? I saw 10 minutes of Friends, it wasn't funny or intersting for me, but I'm not an (north-)american and too old to be in the target group. From what I know, I like the actreses and find the actors as exiting as unburned toast.

I watched "Friends". It was basically a media sensation and kind of a cultural touchstone for people around that age. It jumped the shark early - probably when Ross and Rachel finally got together - which was bound to be anticlimactic. Ross' unrequited feelings for Rachel got kind of tiring, and I remember that twice he came back from some long trip with someone else - Japanese gf once, and then a British wife later. Which was supposed to sort of make Rachel reconsider Ross now that he was unavailable and over her. Matt Perry getting together with the Monica character never really made a huge amount of sense to me. I thought she would be with someone less neurotic. Also, I think Monica had Tom Selleck as a boyfriend for a while, which also seemed weird, and mostly like stuntcasting.

I watched Friends when I was a teen but it's not something I'd want to watch again now. Ross annoyed the hell out of me and the only character I actually liked was Phoebe.

I like the episode when Ross tries to wear the leather pants. I've seen a lot of Friend, eenough of it to get references and memes ("We were on a break!", etc.), but usually just watched the show when my (own) friends had it on. I don't hate it, but I don't get wanting to watch it every day or want to own the DVDs or whatever. That said, the premise was ridiculous even then, even to Americans - no one could understand how they could live in that gigantic apartment in Manhattan, the whole Central Perk thing, etc.
I don't know what he was thinking when he started this bizarre Keanu hate, but I guess it's working, because I know I wouldn't know that he had a book coming out otherwise.
