I’m amazed. Wow. We rarely get good news like this.

Having publicly hoped earlier this year that Danny Masterson would be found “innocent” of rape charges in his retrial, Ashton Kutcher also sought to convince the judge in his That 70s Show co-star’s case of what a great guy the defendant is. “Not only is he a good friend to me I’ve witnessed him be a good friend to others and the kind of brother others would be lucky to have,” Kutcher wrote Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Charlaine Olmedo late last month as Masterson awaited sentencing on being found guilty of two counts of rape this spring. “As a role model, Danny has consistently been an excellent one. I attribute not falling into the typical Hollywood life of drugs directly to Danny,” Kutcher said as one of many high profile names like Mila Kunis advocating on Masterson’s behalf. “While I’m aware that the judgement has been cast as guilty on two counts of rape by force and the victims have a great desire for justice. I hope that my testament to his character is taken into consideration in sentencing,” Kutcher, who also starred with Masterson on Netflix’s The Ranch went on to write on July 27 in one of dozens of letters of consideration submitted to the court. “I do not believe he is an ongoing harm to society and having his daughter raised without a present father would be a tertiary injustice in and of itself” (read Ashton Kutcher’s letter here). deadline.com/2023/09/danny-masterson-ashton-kutcher-mila-kunis-rape-sentencing-scientology-1235540971/What a dick

Kutcher also notes, 'I wholesale feel for anybody who feels like they were violated in any way.' I can't even express my contempt for this statement.

There is a whole list of people speaking up for him. Shame they can't be there to see the real damage that he has done to these women. My take away is that these are the ones that got to court. I feel that it's unlikely that these were singular events and there are more women who have never spoken publicly about it. You don't go from being normal to drugging & raping women in one step.
Also, these people putting him & his family above the needs of the victims makes me physically sick. Bijou married a serial rapist. She may reject her new kidney anyway regardless.
One thing that also emerges from the letters is the perhaps dire state of of Masterson’s wife Bijou Phillips’ health – which is brought up on a number of occasions. “With him no longer there, it has been hard for Bijou to be home raising their daughter,” writes Masterson’s mother and former talent agent Carol Masterson in an emotionally vivid correspondence. “There is also a very real possibility that Bijou’s body will reject her new kidney. If that happens, I worry about my granddaughter.”
Along with Kutcher and his ex-co-star and spouse Mila Kunis, That 70s Show’s Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith, Giovanni Ribisi, Westwood star Jonathan Tucker, The Ranch co-creator Jim Patterson (read Patterson’s letter here) were among those who vouched for Masterson’s character and sought to impress Judge Olmedo with the defendant’s “innate goodness and genuine nature,”

Mila and Ashton have made a poor choice in the words they chose for their letters of support.
A good character reference for court is:
I’ve known the accused for X period. They have told me what they are before court for. They have not tried to hide or minimise their culpability for offending. I was shocked to hear of the offending because it’s so out of character for them. I have seen them do (things which suggest remorse, efforts at rehabilitation, something that addresses the cause of offending, like psychological and medical treatment for addiction for drug related offending, or behaviour change programs for family violence). Something relevant to offences - like if it’s a driving offence and the letter writer is the employer, how will you find them alternate duties if the offender loses their license?
I only use character references for more minor offences and first offences. They’re fucking useless for serious indictable offences in my opinion.

"He's a good guy, apart from all the raping!" But was it rape or rape-rape? Whoopee Goldberg.

"He's a good guy, apart from all the raping!" “He’s so against drugs!”….except when he’s using them to rape women.

I've lost all respect for Mila, never had much for Kutcher. Even if you've known someone all your life and they never showed you this side of themselves, you are either stupid or willfully ignorant when confronted with all this enormous amount of smoke to deny the fire. May they choke on the fumes of their mistake in judgment.

The two that invited him refused to speak to the police, despite the rapist going on the run (and therefore suggesting guilt). It's strange how people react when in a corner. I only have the one friend now.

I only have the one friend now. That so horrible. I imagine it's very complicated but when I have been put in this position, I have chosen to believe the person who says they were sexually assaulted. It's just too horrible how many victims are not believed. I think it's such an astoundingly significantly bigger number than the number of false accusations. I believe that statistically I have to be right. Bottom line is if I have any, even the tiniest, doubt I would never give a written character reference for court.

no1novice , beeyotch You two give me hope for humanity. There's too many people who'll do their best to look the other way when it's more comfortable for them to do so. They'll shout and say shit like "string 'em up by the bollocks!" right up to the point where the person who needs stringing up is someone they know and like.
