As for the teeth, if she got straighteners at some point she could be neglecting to wear retainers at night. I had issues with gaps in my front teeth and after invisalign I have to wear a retainer every night for the rest of my life, otherwise the gaps will slowly come back.
I once lost mine when I was on a trip and didn't wear it for a week and even after a week, one of the small gaps started creeping back. So when I got home to my spare pair they were SO tight when I put them in! So it can happen rather quickly but I can't imagine just ignoring it and letting it get worse.
TBC - I don't know that this is the case, just speculating.

^^^Wow. I had braces for 3 years as a kid and wore a retainer for 2 after that - since then it's all fine. What's the difference?

Not sure! Maybe with metal braces I wouldn't have had to. My gaps were pretty significant so that could be the reason. Interesting indeed.

I've had braces 2x- once as a teen and as an adult. Even with metal or porcelain you should wear your retainer for life when an adult.
