i haven't been watching it on netflix but i have seen a bunch of clips from TT. a lot of it does seem obnoxious and not very interesting. they are pretty much getting shredded on TT (including a lot of commentary from piers). i don't think they are really slamming the RF but they are criticizing the british media. a lot of royalists claim they are taking digs at the RF but i haven't seen any evidence of it.... kind of fake news.

I watched the first three episodes and was pretty bored. It can't decide whether it's a rehashing of "their story" or an indictment of the British media. I went for them to name names and name the deeds, and they didn't, unless they're saving it for the next three episodes. We already know the paps hounded Diana to her death, Harry "saved" Meghan from the same life, etc. etc. The only great reveal was about Samantha Markle. Come on - who planted the stories, who mentioned Archie's skin colour - that's the dirt we want! Otherwise it's all info that they've already aired.

I felt like there were a couple of times when they were making fun of the RF - there's a scene where Meghan was mocking curtseying the queen and talked about meeting Will and Kate for the first time and about how formal they are even behind the scenes. I wouldn't say they were digs but - I guess she was just playing the trope of dumb American, which...while I think it's fair to assess most Americans don't know the whole ins and outs of the British monarchy (and understandably don't care) I think most would probably know at least how to present yourself in front of such royalty. She acts like she never once before even heard their names, which is just preposterous and even more so that Harry makes claims HE didn't know such protocols. Surely he had brought women to his Granny before Meghan and even if he didn't his brother had who I'm sure he could have sought advice from.
Other than that it definitely is a slam against the media and a telling of their perfect, no one will even come close to achieving love story.
As with most Netflix things these days it dragged but I kept it on while doing my holiday embroidery.

i didn't think the mock curtsy was a dig at the RF. maybe at herself. i think she was surprised she would have to curtsy when they were behind closed doors.

I remember being shocked to find out QEII's kids and grandkids had to curtsy to her in private - and TRIPLE shocked to find out that cousins had to curtsy to each other - with the bitch fests of "blood princess" vs. just married into it. Damn, it must crank Andy when he has to curtsy to Camilla - and to the new Princess of Wales.
See, I can laugh from a distance, but pretty sure that oppressive formality would be the death knell for me. It's a lot.
eta: Wait. Do they all have to bow to George??? Seriously, does anyone know? Because that would be a sharp "Oh, hell no!" from me.

is anyone watching the harry and meghan netflix thing? i haven't started but as soon as i have time i'm totally watching, even if it looks kind of obnoxious. I bet piers has a lot to say about it. I’m probably alone in this but I love it. Anyone who says these two aren’t deeply in love are delusional. Their love for each other is kind of inspiring tbh. I liked hearing about their backstory. There’s not much else we don’t already know though except that Doria just decided never to talk to Meghan about race because…  ? There is no real explanation given for that and I find it totally bizarre. So when Meghan started facing racism she was in denial that it was racism and just thought it was hazing. I find that terribly sad and I am majorly side-eying her mom now. |

Zara still looks pretty happy to be with a dude who publicly fondles other women. I guess that is a-okay with her.
I'm not gonna lie, I thought Harry was pretty cute in this and definitely charming. And obviously they're in love. And yes I do think this bothered Kate and disgusted or at least annoyed William. I think if Bill and Cathy ever had anything even close to this it was for about two weeks when they first started dating. At this age/stage they probably think it very immature and look down their noses. Their relationship is a business/brand now. But I don't find it a stretch to assume that most women stuck in a situation like Kate's would probably secretly be at least a little jealous.
Doria is a cute little lady, but yeah Nicki, I found that (no race discussion with her own mixed-face daughter??) a bit strange and sad too.

Apparently people have been handing Morgan's arse to him on twitter saying just that. His response was to say that all the 'trolls' suggesting that he was bitter because Meghan rejected him had reminded him that he hadn't wished his wife Happy Birthday for the day before. He then posted a montage of modelling pictures of his wife where she's doing some reveal-but-conceal pictures. This did not have the effect he was hoping for as many people then started taking the piss out of him for making a post about his wife's birthday about Meghan and for posting pictures of his wife that are over 20 years old and predate their relationship to make it seem like he was married to a hot young thing. A few mischievous scamps also pointed out that he was also still married to his first wife when he started an affair with his second wife. ^^^Yeah, that's what I thought as well. Double post because the board keeps eating my reply to MsDark. Kate is starting to seem, for want of a better word, brittle. She wears the clothes well, she shakes hands with the plebs with a nicely fixed grin and she follows behind her remarkably stiff and buttoned up husband like a finely tuned Stepford Wifebot, but it's rare for there to be anything more than a flash of genuine warmth or pleasure from her. She's made her bed and she's determined to lie in it, no matter what the cost to herself, but I can't help but wonder if there's a tiny spark of an ordinary, lively woman left in there who is screaming and rattling at the bars of the cage she chose for herself. |

That she hasn't suggests that no such record exists and Samantha (just about) has enough sense not to go there and find herself sued into oblivion. |
