Duty and sacrifice and service. Duty to whom? It took me a long time to realize it is mostly duty to the perpetuation of the monarchy itself. I suppose they do help to highlight different charities/public works. But service??? It's not bloody service if they give you castles and clothes and jewels and meals prepared just how you like them, and a private jet and helicopters and even special toilet seats that your 'people' have to drag to where-ever you go and 24/7 people to do all the crap work for you. And sacrifice? Castles around the kingdom. Jewels steeped in bloody conflict and colonialism. Even the corgis eat better than many British subjects. (Gourmet food prepared by special chefs.) But Meghan gets blasted for "having a feminist agenda" because it's political??? Treating half the world's population as equal to the other half is political??? Do I sound bitter? I am, and I'm not even paying for these assholes to live their dutiful and sacrificial lives. For me though, the fairy tale ended when I was forced to realize what racist, horrible, amoral people lived behind the masks of their 'duty and service.' I know, it's not my business - I'm American, and we certainly have our own issues and embarrassments. But the way they have treated Meghan is revolting. When Harry said in his talk with Oprah that he lived through the outrage and death of his mother as she was dating a man who wasn't white, and he saw the same thing happening to Meghan because she is a woman of color it made me sick. I'm a Brit and I agree with everything you've said. I haven't met anyone whose purpose in visiting the UK was because of the Royal Family. Yes, the palaces and parks that are open to the public are tourist attractions, but I'd bet the tea money that they'll be visited long after the Monarchy is 'extinct'. The Palace Of Versailles has the most visitors of any tourist attraction in Europe! A monarchy isn't fit for the modern age and does not deserve the deference that is given to such an archaic institution. It symbolises a class system and subservience to a 'title', something which is all about respecting someone based on who they are. Well, fukk that, respect is earned and the hypocrisy that runs through the British Royal Family is something that should be challenged, not respected! I certainly won't doff my cap to a man who wanted to be his mistress's tampon! There- rant over, this Pleb is off to make herself a cup of coffee, it's my butler's day off!

The RF is the biggest grift. These people are filthy rich yet taxpayers are paying for their wardrobe and travel and renovations to their various palaces and cottages. All so they can go cut some ribbons or whatever and some don't even want to do that amount of "work" (looking at you William and Kate).

their 'duty' is to self-preservation and to upholding the status quo. and conservative types love it because they help keep traditions alive, no matter how harmful, and they act as a force against societal changes, even necessary ones. that's the quiet part that they don't say out loud but it's what piers and all the idiotic royal 'experts' and the conservative tabloids are all working toward - keeping things as they are and making sure elites' privileges aren't threatened. and whether it's meghan markle and harry, or brexit, all it takes to get the masses in line is to appeal to their baser instincts of racism, sexism, xenophobia, anti-intellectualism and fear of change, even change that will benefit them.

Oh my. That was very moving. Of course people will continue to blame his wife. They needed to remove themselves and their children from that toxic environment .

Not Royalty but the Aristocracy and somewhat relevant considering what we've been discussing about Harry and Meghan. The Dowager Marchioness of Bath - who fell out with her son over marrying Strictly Come Dancing star Emma Weymouth and whose husband Lord Bath had more than 70 mistresses - dies just 10 days before her 79th birthday Dowager Marchioness of Bath died in Paris, where she spent much of her time Anna Gael put up with the infidelities of her eccentric husband Alexander Thynn But she was less lenient with son Ceawlin’s choice of bride Emma McQuiston She allegedly asked Ceawlin if he was sure about ruining ‘400 years of bloodline’ The Dowager Marchioness of Bath had died just 10 days before her 79th birthday. Anna Gael, a former actress and model, died in Paris, where she spent most of her time, after years of putting up with her husband's womanising. A few wives are prepared to tolerate their husband keeping a mistress. Not many are willing to turn a blind eye to him having more than 70 of them. The Dowager Marchioness of Bath, however, did just that, with the infidelities of her eccentric husband, Alexander Thynn, the 7th Marquess. While Mrs Gael put up with her husband’s womanising that saw him acquire the nickname ‘The Loins of Longleat’, she was less understanding of her son Ceawlin’s choice of bride. She allegedly asked Ceawlin - the then heir to Longleat, with its 10,000-acre estate, wildlife park and reputed £150 million fortune, if he was sure about ruining ‘400 years of bloodline’ by marrying Emma McQuiston, the half-Nigerian daughter of an oil tycoon.
Known as Emma Weymouth after marrying Ceawlin, then Viscount Weymouth, in 2013, she went on to find fame as a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing. Lord Bath, who died of pneumonia after testing positive for Covid in 2020, aged 87, failed to attend the couple’s wedding. His wife was also absent, claiming they had already accepted another invitation. Ceawlin was said to have stopped his mother from seeing his son, John, to prevent the child being ‘contaminated’ by her racism. Anna later denied she was a racist and said she had ‘absolutely nothing’ against her daughter-in-law. Anna was born in Hungary to a mathematician father and poet mother. After they moved to France when she was a child, she began acting aged 15, under the stage name Anna Gael, appearing in films including Therese And Isabelle, and Take Me, Love Me. She met Alexander in Paris, becoming his mistress while she was married to French film director Gilbert Pineau. Despite living mainly in Paris while Lord Bath was in Wiltshire for much of their marriage, she would complain to a newspaper if it reported that they were separated, insisting that was untrue. It wasn’t just Emma’s arrival at Longleat that put strain on Ceawlin’s relationship with his parents. The biggest cause of dispute was over the decision by Ceawlin and Emma to remove some of Lord Bath’s garish murals, which his father had painted for him and his sister when they were children. The quarrels were exposed by a memorable BBC1 documentary, All Change At Longleat. link

Hey, if this old racist cunt has anything over the BRF, at least she was straight up with her bigotry and not trying to fool anyone. She should have shut her mouth all the way the fuck up seeing as how she was a "ho" (i.e. an actress, divorcee AND a mistress!) prior to becoming a wife. I guess that doesn't taint the bloodline. I guess she got a lot of mileage out of staying married to this dude even though he was fucking everything that moved and they didn't even live together. But yeah, go say something about your daughter-in-law, ya racist whore-bag who lived a fake ass existence married-in-name-only to an even bigger whore-bag. I can't stand people like this. I don't blame the son and DIL one bit for keeping her old ass away from their child.

Anybody ever see this, that Harry exec produced with Oprah, called The Me You Can't See ? There was another clip on twitter that I can't find now, but I thought pretty interesting. The most shocking thing about the first video is seeing in those vintage films how cute William used to be XD More seriously this is hard to watch, I feel for Harry and even now, as he was burying his grand mother, the media treatment of his wife was just revolting. He comes out as extremely nice in those videos, I do hope he's better now. ps: we also have a monarchy here in Sweden, and I don't think tourists give a fuck XD

Had Diana lived I think she would have ended up in America. She loved it there. Harry is just like her.

Poor Harry, I can’t imagine losing and having to mourn my mother on the world stage and not having the support all grieving children need. I think many children have anger, fear and insecurities related to young parental loss and his and William’s circumstances were broadcast/published around the world.
I do not totally agree with his statement about comparing his mother and Meghan. I think that’s a trauma response to believe that Meghan would have be chased until “she’s dead”.
